Rebecca Black ran toward 'stuff' like VMAs, not away from bullies [Video]

Rebecca Black at the MTV Video Music Awards

It seems like just yesterday that Rebecca Black's "Friday" video went viral, causing music lovers everywhere to declare the imminent death of modern pop. But at the MTV Video Music Awards a few months later, it seemed Black was having the last laugh.

She recently appeared in Katy Perry's "Last Friday Night" video, and even showed up in a skit during the VMAs. Dressed in a dinosaur costume, no less.

When Black found out she was invited to participate in the show, she got that "warm feeling that, 'Oh my gosh, this is what came out of my little 'Friday' song,'" the 14-year-old told us on the black carpet. (See the video below.)

And as for recent headlines saying she dropped out of school due to bullying, Black said she made the move for more practical career reasons.

"Really, the main reason I left was it's hard to be at school, you know? I'm now doing stuff like going to the VMAs. So you can't always actually physically be there," she explained.

Meanwhile, Black is busy trying to prove she's not just a one-hit wonder. Her debut album will be released around Halloween, she said, and it will have "a bunch of different kinds of stuff."

"Tuesday," perhaps? With a dash of "Thursday at dusk"? We can dream.

Rebecca Black yanks 'Friday' from YouTube -- happy now?

Rebecca Black takes "Friday" down from YouTube

Rebecca Black wants "Friday" all to herself, it seems, requesting that YouTube take down the viral video that made her famous.

"This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Rebecca Black," reads the Web page that once held the pop tune so bad it was marvelous. "Sorry about that."

The dispute is over who own rights to Rebecca's image, according to TMZ, which got confirmation from the Black team that a takedown notice had been submitted as a result of a "dispute we have with Ark Music regarding the 'Friday' video."

Ark Music Factory produced the tune as part of a package purchased by Rebecca's family.

After logging more than 167 million free "Friday" views via its YouTube account, Ark earlier this week introduced a $2.99 three-day rental fee for the video — this after Mama Black in April threatened Ark with a lawsuit over master copies of the recording and sales of "Friday" ring tones, Popeater said.

To all the folks who wanted "Friday" to just go away -- happy now? Yes, that is a totally serious question.

Donald Trump not running for president, Rebecca Black not pregnant

Donald Trump not running for president; Rebecca Black not pregnant Donald Trump will not run for president of the United States, he announced Monday, only a day after 13-year-old "Friday" phenom Rebecca Black announced that she was not pregnant.

We'll pause now for a moment of silence so we can all read that previous paragraph again, shake our heads and wonder how the world is currently still spinning on its axis.

"I will not be running for president as much as I'd like to," Trump said Monday in a written statement, after teasing for months about whether he'd submit his résumé to the American people for consideration as chief exec of the free world.

The teasing by the host of "The Celebrity Apprentice" included traveling to early-primary state New Hampshire and loudly and successfully pressuring President Obama to release his long-form birth certificate.

"I maintain the strong conviction that if I were to run, I would be able to win the primary and ultimately, the general election," Trump said. "I have spent the past several months unofficially campaigning and recognize that running for public office cannot be done half heartedly. Ultimately, however, business is my greatest passion and I am not ready to leave the private sector."

Speaking of birth certificates, we won't be expecting a new one courtesy of Rebecca Black any time soon. The YouTube phenom is not pregnant, despite CNN's iReport website falling for a doctored picture of the 13-year-old "Friday" singer announcing that she was with child.

"I thought it was May 15th ... not April Fools Day," the teen wrote on her @MsRebeccaBlack account on Twitter. "I'm absolutely NOT pregnant."

And here we thought the full moon wasn't due until Tuesday. Go figure.

'Glee' guys rock out to Rebecca Black's 'Friday' in prom episode

Eat your heart out, Rebecca Black. Leave it to "Glee" to turn the manufactured teen singer's "Friday" song cool.

Mark Salling, Kevin McHale and Chord Overstreet covered the viral single from the eighth-grader in the series' "Prom Queen" episode, which aired Tuesday night. Listen to the audio version here.

The episode, which marked a much-awaited return to "Glee's" Season 1 glory days, did not disappoint. Neither did the upbeat male version of the obnoxious song. (OK, the Stephen Colbert-Taylor Hicks-the Roots version on  "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" was pretty awesome too. Why is it that this song is only good when someone else sings it??)

"@gleeonfox did GREAT with Friday! Loved the WHOLE episode!" Black tweeted.

Mark Salling, Kevin McHale and Chord Overstreet cover Rebecca Black's 'Friday' in prom episode But who was the mastermind behind the idea to include the ultra-poppy anthem? That'd be Salling.

"The goal that I had going in with the song was to have fun, fun, fun, fun." Salling said. He also, applying his own brand of charming sarcasm, called it a "digital masterpiece."

The boys even did a dance that incorporated New Directions choreography and some moves from Black's teeny-bopper crush: Justin Bieber, who also sang a few bars from the AutoTuned song at a recent concert.

We'd been expecting some sort of life lesson about bullying from Matthew Morrison's Mr. Schuester, but instead the cast just had fun with the song and so did we -- in a non-mocking, shut-up-Rebecca-Black sort of way.

'Glee': Full episode recaps

The prom episode had been at the center of scandal last month after a wayward tweet from former extra Nicole Crowther prompted the wrath of producer Brad Falchuk. But even with the spoiled outcome "Prom Queen" still had enough pizazz and solid performances to keep us weary viewers happy. The return of Jonathan Groff as Jesse St. James didn't hurt either.

What'd you think of the Puck-Artie-Sam cover of "Friday"?

'Prom' movie premiere: Rebecca Black hits the red carpet with stars Aimee Teegarden, Thomas McDonell

A constellation of rising stars joined cast members of Walt Disney's "Prom" at the movie's red-carpet premiere Thursday. The teen flick's leading lady, Aimee Teegarden of "Friday Night Lights" fame, sparkled in silver on the arm of costar Thomas McDonell at the screening in Hollywood.

"Prom" chronicles a group of high-schoolers on the cusp of adulthood as they prepare for the most important night in their lives.

A slew of young celebs rocked dresses that could have twirled in movie proms of yore. "Modern Family" actress Ariel Winter and Joey King, the pint-sized star of "Ramona and Beezus," were both pretty in pink. Chelsie Hightower ("Entertainment Tonight," "Dancing With the Stars") and Aimee-Lynn Chadwick wore black-and-white stripes. Click the pics to see more pictures.

Rebecca Black, the singer of the YouTube hit "Friday," defied death threats to strut her stuff for the cameras in a white, balloon-skirt dress. "Spy Kids" star Daryl Sabara looked snappy in a gray suit. Kendall and Kylie Jenner ("Keeping Up With the Kardashians") hammed it up for the cameras.

Olympic gold medalist Tara Lipinski made an appearance, as did Rachel Smith, Zachary Gordon, Nathan Kress, Jake T. Austin, Francia Raisa, Nolan Sotillo and Debby Ryan, to name a few.

The event was followed by an after-party at the aptly chosen Hollywood High School, where pop/rock band Allstar Weekend -- which rose to popularity after competing in "Disney's Next Big Thing" --  performed for the young stars.

"Prom" opens in theaters April 29.

Rebecca Black: Police investigating 'Friday' death threats

Rebecca Black has gotten death threats Rebecca Black has received death threats: Take "Friday" off the Web or face the consequences. Who knew bad music could be so dangerous? At any rate, police are on the case.

Anaheim police are looking into a menacing call to Black's management company and an email to her production company, both received in March.

"In essence, the threats were related to getting the music off the Internet or they were going to kill her," Anaheim police spokesman Sgt. Rick Martinez told KCBS. "We can't validate how serious they are, but we do take it seriously."

Black, 13, shot to fame in February with her YouTube upload of "Friday," the infamous tune dubbed by some as the "worst song in history." The video, with more than 111 million views, was shot by Ark Music Factory as part of a $2,000 package paid for by Black's mother.

Despite the parodies and threats, things are looking pretty good for Black. In fact, she now has something in common with the likes of Madonna and Lady Gaga: The guys from "Glee" will cover "Friday" in an upcoming episode.
