Emmys 2011: Paula Abdul finds Simon Cowell 'charming' [Video]

Paula Abdul at the 2011 Emmy Awards

No matter how much we've heard about "The X Factor" so far, "it's still not enough" for Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul said Sunday on the 2011 Emmys red carpet.

Onetime "American Idol" besties Cowell and Abdul are reunited for the talent competition, newly imported from Britain, which allows singers as young as 12 as well as those in their 50s and 60s, plus groups.

It's a collaborative effort, Abdul said, but "Simon is very clear about his vision for the show ... shall I say, it's charming to see him in his element. He's very happy ... this is very important to him. It's his baby."

"The X Factor," which also features judges L.A. Reid and Nicole Scherzinger, and host Steve Jones, premieres Wednesday on Fox.

Steven Tyler on Paula Abdul: 'I guess she had problems with substances'

Steven Tyler and Paula Abdul New "American Idol" judge Steven Tyler recently spoke out about former panel member and "real character" Paula Abdul.

"The world [criticized her] her for nodding out, something I'm not unfamiliar with. I guess she had problems with substances," he told XfinityTV.

The Aerosmith frontman finished a 90-day rehab program last February.

"She's a real character and she's great," Tyler said. "She's an artist. People are gonna look to see what she's got going next. I wish her luck."

See Tyler with veteran judge Randy Jackson and divalicious newbie Jennifer Lopez on the show, which starts its 10th season Wednesday, hosted by Ryan Seacrest. Check out our brother blog Hero Complex's recent "Idol" scoop, and give us your thoughts on Tyler's Abdul musings in comments.

Could Mariah Carey be 'American Idol's' new Paula Abdul? [poll]

Mariah-in-gold-dress With Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler signed up as a new "American Idol" judge, there's still a seat to fill -- and the prospect floating around as we head into the weekend is none other than Mariah Carey.

So while the negotiators do their negotiating, and the lawyers do their lawyering, the Ministry presents a little retro rewind of Mariah from the Palm Springs International Film Festival in January.

What do you think -- could Mariah fit in as "Idol's" next Paula Abdul? She does have the wardrobe.

Adam Lambert's half-shaved head -- and a peek at him putting on his guyliner

Adam-lambert-glam-web

Adam Lambert gave the world a look at an upcoming "Glam Nation" tour costume Wednesday night, tweeting out the photo shown above, then told fans who might freak out over the Twitter debut of his dramatically different hair, "Calm down ... Just shaved one side ... :)" And with that, he joins the long list of celebrities who've shaven off their heads.

Not enough Glambert style for you? Get a fix by watching the video below, in which the rocker gets his guyliner just right.

Lambert, who has a new music video out (click to watch it) for "If I Had You," was among the celebs who showed up for Logo TV's NewNowNext Awards, which taped June 13 and aired Thursday. Paula Abdul made the scene also, to collect her Always Next, Forever Now Icon Award.  Fans who don't have access to the niche network via their cable providers, or who missed the show, can see the entire show online.

Paula Abdul returns to judging on CBS' 'Got to Dance'

Paula_abdul Paula Abdul fans, rejoice! Now your Abdul fix won’t be limited to viewing her oh-so-insightful Twitter feed. (For example, who knew the natural sugar in an apple is stronger than the caffeine in a cup of coffee? Thanks, Paula!)

CBS has confirmed -- as did Abdul via Twitter, of course -- that the former object of Simon Cowell’s ridicule has been named an executive producer, creative partner and lead judge for the network’s new reality dance competition, “Got to Dance.” The new show is based on the British hit that began airing earlier this year. Think “American Idol” meets “So You Think You Can Dance.”

Here's hoping her dancing critiques will be more coherent than the ones she offered on "American Idol."

There's still no word when the show will air, so until then, it’s back to the Twitter feed.

Confirmed: Simon Cowell is leaving 'American Idol'

Idol team Die-hard Simon Cowell fans, set your DVRs now to record the entire season of "American Idol," because the most caustic (but often the most on-target) of the show's judges is calling it quits when this cycle is done.

And who will replace him? "We're not going to try to find a Simon clone to do what he does, because he's one of a kind," said Fox TV President Peter Rice, the New Jersey Star-Ledger's Alan Sepinwall reports. Randy Jackson, who just this morning was discounting rumors of Simon's departure, is the last original judge standing.

The confirmation came today at the Television Critics Assn. press tour in Pasadena.

Looks as if Simon's brother had the story nailed back in late December -- but why all the speculation?

According to Show Tracker, it was "partly because we didn't have an agreement. We reached an agreement formally at about half past 11 this morning," Cowell said.

Simon Cowell to end his 'American Idol' run?

Simon paula Wow, we figured Simon Cowell would miss ribbing Paula Abdul on "American Idol," but we didn't think it'd come to this.

Cowell's older brother, Tony, said on a podcast that the master of cut-to-the-quick criticism will be leaving "Idol" after 2010 so he can concentrate on bringing his U.K. hit "The X Factor" to the U.S. market in 2011.

Remember how "American Idol" came out of the U.K.'s "Pop Idol"? Yeah, like that.

Tony Cowell said that a release is being prepared, but Simon and Fox aren't talking.

Except to announce some changes in the show. ...
