Oscars 2012: Nick Nolte doesn't really hang out with this crowd

Nick Nolte wasn't very excited to be at the Oscars on Sunday.

"I'm not really excited deep down inside," the supporting actor nominee admitted. Why so glum, we wondered?

"Because I don't know anyone here. There's nobody that I really hang out with," Nolte said. "I'm not going to have any real deep conversations."

Nolte was happy to be sitting next to his son, Brawley Nolte. As for his chances against shoo-in Christopher Plummer, he said he wasn't frustrated that he wasn't considered the category's front-runner.

"I've had times here where the Vegas odds are in my favor," he said. "I'm not anxious to win because it's a terrible responsibility, what you have to do when you win.

"You've gotta talk to people all over the world. You've gotta pose for a picture with all the winners. It's a lot of work."

AnnaLynne McCord is delighted and disgusted -- which rocks our 'Nip/Tuck' world

93913228PB004_Variety_s_3rd On TV, the comely AnnaLynne McCord does things like try to seduce her mother’s girlfriend’s ex-husband or publicly expose her sister for sleeping with her boyfriend.

In real life, the bad girl of “90210” and “Nip/Tuck” has better things to do. Like trash her famous peers for wasting their time in the spotlight with selfish pursuits rather than use it to promote a good cause.

“It disgusts me to hear about endless partying,” she told the crowd of 700 at Variety’s “Power of Youth” event at Paramount Studios on Saturday. “If you’re undeserving of your title, I pray it’s taken away from you and given to someone who’ll use it for the power of youth.”

McCord supports the Blind Project, a New York-based organization helping victims of sex trafficking in Southeast Asia. And while young paparazzi bait settle into first-class seats on flights to the tropics during the holidays, she and her sisters are spending Christmas volunteering in Phnom Penh.

That philanthropic spirit earned McCord a Variety Power of Youth award, along with the charity-minded Corbin Bleu, Miranda Cosgrove, Keke Palmer and Jesse McCartney.

But no one else quite displayed McCord’s fearless je ne sais quoi about the sorry state of much of young Hollywood.

"I’m really over it,” she said backstage. (Click onward for pics and more.)
