Gavin DeGraw recovering after attack in New York

Singer-songwriter Gavin DeGraw was recovering Tuesday in a New York hospital after being attacked and beaten by three men early Monday morning, then getting hit by a cab about a mile away from the scuffle.

The attack occurred around 4 a.m. in New York City's East Village, shortly after the musician parted ways with some drinking buddies. DeGraw suffered a concussion, broken nose, black eyes, cuts and bruises, his publicist said.

After the "pack of thugs" -- that's the New York Post's description -- fled, DeGraw continued walking until he was hit, though not seriously injured, by a cab.

Police said a 911 caller reported that a man with blood on his shirt who appeared to be "heavily intoxicated" needed help, according to People. Police sources told the mag that DeGraw's recollections are clouded by his head injuries and the possibility that he was not sober during the attack, and said that "some kind of argument" had occurred between the strangers and the singer.

DeGraw was said to be in stable condition at Bellevue Hospital on Tuesday.

The guy who hit the mainstream when his song "I Don't Wanna Be" was picked as the "One Tree Hill" theme has been touring as the opening act for Train and Maroon 5. Singer-songwriter Nikki Jean will fill DeGraw's shoes at the tour's Tuesday stop in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., according to TMZ.

The singer's rep issued a statement on Tuesday afternoon that DeGraw has also canceled performances scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

Katy Perry, Neil Patrick Harris work blue at 'The Smurfs' premiere

Katy Perry at "The Smurfs" premiere

Tim Gunn and George Lopez at "The Smurfs" premiere Big Hollywood names found it quite easy being blue on Sunday for the New York City premiere of "The Smurfs."

Katy Perry flirted in a custom mini invoking Smurfette, the character she voices in the CGI/live-action hybrid flick that opens Friday. The dress came via the Blonds, prolific costumers for the likes of Rihanna, Kylie Minogue and Lady Gaga.

Snuggling up with a life-sized Smurfette on the indigo carpet, Perry was joined by her film costars Neil Patrick Harris with fiance David Burtka, Sofia Vergara, George Lopez, Hank Azaria,  Jayma Mays of "Glee," and "Project Runway" guru Tim Gunn (yes, he's a costar).

George Lopez, Brooke Shields, Oliver Platt, Joey Fatone, Melissa Joan Hart and singer Kimberly Locke caught the Ziegfeld Theatre screening as well.

'Transformers: Dark of the Moon': Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley get sweaty

"Transformers: Dark of the Moon"

"Transformers: Dark of the Moon" star Shia LaBeouf has made no secret about his fondness for getting sweaty with his costars, and that tradition continued in Times Square on Tuesday night in the company of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and -- Josh Duhamel?

Fear not, Fergie. Pretty much everyone was sweating in their suits and dresses as temperatures in New York topped 80 degrees for the action film's premiere and LaBeouf, Huntington-Whiteley and Duhamel worked the red carpet with costars Tyrese Gibson, Patrick Dempsey, Ken Jeong, Buzz Aldrin and Lester Speight, as well as director Michael Bay.

"Transformers: Dark of the Moon" premiere And poor Huntington-Whiteley -- the Victoria's Secret model just can't get a break. Seems her leading man was "hot and sweaty" during their kissing scenes as well.

"He's dripping with sweat throughout the whole of this movie," she told the Associated Press, "and my poor little makeup artist had to be on hand the whole time we did the kissing scenes."

No word on whether Optimus Prime was sweating when he was tangling with the Decepticons -- or whether his detailer was on call 24/7.

Also spotted: Dwyane Wade with Gabrielle Union, siblings Willow and Jaden Smith, TV personality Carrie Keagan and Dempsey's wife, Jil Fink. Click the pics for more photos from the red carpet.

"Transformers: Dark of the Moon" opened for business in the wee hours Wednesday, ahead of the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

Justin Bieber goes to the movies with Selena Gomez — for her 'Monte Carlo' premiere

Selena Gomez at the Monte Carlo premiere

Sure, Selena Gomez is the star of "Monte Carlo," and that's cool — but OMG would her boyfriend, Justin Bieber, be there for her New York City movie premiere Thursday?

That would be a yes, with Bieber rocking red shoes, below left, that made up for no red carpet as he joined "Monte Carlo" ladies Katie Cassidy and Andie MacDowell, plus MacDowell daughters Sarah Margaret Qualley and Rainey Qualley, at the AMC Loews Lincoln Square 13 on Broadway after his busy day at Macy's.

Justin-bieber-red-sneakers Also spotted: actor Stephen Baldwin, accompanied by daughters Alia and Hailey. Alas, cast members Cory Monteith and Leighton Meester were missing.

Gomez appeared to have recovered from her recent hospital visit for nausea and a severe headache. "I was just very malnourished, so I was low on iron and exhausted," she said a few days after the drama.

"Monte Carlo" — which tells the story of a young woman who travels to Paris with her best friend and her stepsister, only to be mistaken for a spoiled British heiress — opens July 1.

Fashion Icon award winner Lady Gaga reveals: Anna Wintour texts [Video]

Lady Gaga at the CFDA Awards Lady Gaga came up a big winner in New York City on Monday evening, as the singer and style eccentric was awarded the Council of Fashion Designers of America's Fashion Icon award.

In a mint-green wig and black dress, and having shed the massive gauzy train she'd arrived with, Gaga accepted the prize before the likes of Anderson Cooper, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, "Desperate Housewives" diva Marcia Cross, Karolina Kurkova, Lucy Liu and Jessica Alba. Click the pics for more photos.

While the audience got eyefuls of Gaga spectacle -- as did those who witnessed her significant wardrobe malfunction upon arrival, a double nipple-slip that made Khloe Kardashian's six-minute femme flash Tuesday morning look like amateur hour -- it was Vogue editor Anna Wintour who earned the most love from the Lady.

During her acceptance speech, Gaga revealed that Wintour had personally text-messaged her with the news that she'd landed the Icon trophy. "She text messages," Gaga confirmed.

"So she sent me a text message, and it said, 'We're so excited to tell you you won the CFDA Fashion Icon award,'" the singer said. Problem is, her ladyship thought it was a message from a different Anna, close pal Anna Trevelyan, an assistant to her stylist.

Photos: 2011 CFDA Fashion Awards"So I have a couple Annas in my phone, so my reply was, 'Yes bitch, we did it,'" Gaga said, earning a big laugh from the audience, as seen in the video below. "So quite quickly I got a reply that said, 'How lovely, and we will all be waiting to see what you will wear.'"

Gaga then realized who was on the other end of the text exchange. The anecdote was a crowd pleaser, entertaining the likes of Diane Von Furstenberg and Prabal Gurung -- but not everyone could relax and enjoy the evening.

Cooper had to bail, New York magazine said, "to deal with a Weiner."

Kelly Preston cast as wife to John Travolta's 'Gotti'

Kelly Preston to join husband John Travolta in cast of 'Gotti: Three Generations' biopic as Victoria Gotti

This post has been corrected. See the note below for details.

Looks as if it's going to be bring your family to work day every day on the set of "Gotti: Three Generations," now that Kelly Preston has been cast to play the wife of John Travolta's character in the crime-family biopic. Hey, even daughter Ella Bleu is getting in on the action.

"The love and passion between John and Kelly ... will bring a huge benefit to John Sr. and his wife, and to tell you the truth, they have a lot in common. They both lost a child at a young age and they understand what the Gottis went through when the Gottis lost their child," producer Marc Fiore told People.

"She's a terrific actress, and she can really do the role justice," production company spokesman Steve Honig said.

(Plus, in keeping with the subject matter, she brings with her at least a little firearms experience. Preston is the woman Charlie Sheen now says he did not shoot in 1990. His onetime fiancee got herself shot, the unemployed sitcom star told a Vancouver audience Monday, when she picked up a pair of his pants off the bathroom scale and -- whoops! -- a revolver he'd left in the back pocket fell out and discharged. Hey, it happens.)

Travolta will play mob boss Gotti Sr. and Preston will play his wife, Victoria DiGiorgio. Lindsay Lohan was rumored to play Victoria Gotti, the daughter Gotti Sr. and DiGiorgio's (Yes, there are two Johns and two Victorias in the family). Lohan, who was temporarily dropped from the film, will instead play their daughter-in-law Kim Gotti, wife of Gotti Jr. Honig said it was "a larger role in the film" than the Victoria Gotti role. Joe Pesci is slated to play Gotti Sr.'s friend Angelo Ruggiero.

Photos from 'Gotti: Three Generations' press conference The real-life married couple's 11-year-old daughter, Ella Bleu, will also appear in the film as their characters' on-screen daughter, Angel Gotti. The biopic chronicles the relationship between the late mobster and his son John Gotti Jr., who eventually renounced the ways of the New York-based Gambino crime family.

Gotti Jr. sold the rights to his family's story in 2002, and he and Gotti family members appeared at the "Gotti: Three Generations" news conference in April posing for photos with potential cast members. Click the pics for photos from the presser.

The film is still without a director since Nick Cassavetes dropped out last month because of a scheduling conflict.

[For the record, 9:50 a.m. May 5: This post initially said Kelly Preston would play Victoria Gotti, a role Lindsay Lohan had been considered for. Preston will play Victoria DiGiorgio, the wife of John Gotti Sr. Lohan had been considered for the role of Victoria Gotti, the couple's daughter who shares the same name as her mother.]

Drug, graffiti charges against Keith Richards' daughter Theodora dropped

Charges dismissed against Keith Richards' daughter Theodora Richards Graffiti and drug charges against rocker Keith Richards' daughter Theodora Richards were dismissed Thursday in a plea deal with New York prosecutors.

Richards, 25, who was arrested March 1 on suspicion of tagging the side of a SoHo building and possessing marijuana and hydrocodone, was given two days of community service and told to visit a drug treatment program for a day, a deal she initially had turned down at the time of her arrest.

But prosecutors agreed to the deal laid out by a Manhattan Criminal Court judge because Richards had no previous criminal record and is currently in a drug treatment program. She must complete the community service by June 24, when she is due to appear again in court.

Police said they caught her with a paint marker writing "T [heart] A" on a building that houses a convent in an upscale part of SoHo, where she lives. She had 8 1/2 hydrocodone pills without a prescription and a small amount of marijuana, court documents said. When she was arrested she did not enter a plea and was released without bail.

The model, who wore a finely striped shirt-dress and high heels to court, has appeared in ad campaigns for Burberry, Tommy Hilfiger and French Connection.

The Associated Press reported that she "smiled but stayed mum" as she left court. Her attorney, Edward Hayes, said she was currently drug-free.

"She's as clean as the snow," he said.

Richards is one of two daughters of the Rolling Stones guitarist, 67, and model Patti Hansen. Keith Richards, who has two other children from a previous relationship, chronicled his bad-boy lifestyle in last year's best-selling memoir "Life."

Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart kiss at 'Water for Elephants' after party

Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson kiss in 'New Moon' and in NYC

The will-they-or-won't-they speculation may be coming to an end for Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson thanks to a snapshot of the "Twilight" hotties smooching in New York City on Sunday.

And this time they're not on a movie set.

Stewart accompanied Pattinson's parents at his "Water for Elephants" premiere. She laid low, however, as he walked the red carpet with Reese Witherspoon and his sisters, according to People.

Stewart, 21, did show up at the after party and shared a kiss and a smile with Pattinson, 24, in a car before leaving, the magazine said. Click here for the photo, which looks strikingly similar to the "New Moon" pic from above, no?

They've had quite a bit of practice thanks to their steamy sex scene in the upcoming "Breaking Dawn" films, though neither mega-star has copped to the relationship. But Twi-hards everywhere have been convinced something's been up for a while despite denial after denial from the duo.

Are you happy to see the real-life Bella and Edward get affectionate in public or is it too crushing to see RPatz with someone besides you? Tell us in comments.
