Miley Cyrus: Single, yes, but sober?

Miley Cyrus backstage at the MTV EMAs

Like mother and father, like daughter? With her parents' divorce percolating in the background, Miley Cyrus is choosing the single route, having broken up again with Liam Hemsworth for a second time after making out with him in September.

Unlike her parents -- whose split has stirred up a rumor (denied all around) of a fling between mama Tish Cyrus and rocker Bret Michaels -- Miley has no drama with Liam, People reports. Heck, how many people even knew they'd gotten back together after the August breakup? Crazy kids.

The news might distract from today's other Miley report: the TMZ one out of Madrid, where she's pictured with her hands on a beer, surrounded by guys, a few weeks shy of her 18th birthday.

The singer and actress is in Madrid, incidentally, to perform on the 2010 MTV Europe Music Awards; that's the gig where in 2009 host Katy Perry and her kooky costumes made a splash in Berlin.

This year's MTV EMAs will be held Sunday night.

Miley's parents split: Billy Ray Cyrus files for divorce

Billy Ray Cyrus and wife Tish are getting a divorce. Sorry, Miley Cyrus -- even famous kids' parents split up.

The actress-singer's dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, on Tuesday filed for divorce from his wife of 17 years, Tish. "As you can imagine, this is a very difficult time for our family," they said Wednesday in a statement to People, adding that they're working through "personal matters" and appreciate fans' thoughts and prayers.

Irreconcilable differences were cited in the action filed in Tennessee, according to court documents obtained by TMZ. The "Achy Breaky Heart" singer and "Hannah Montana" costar is seeking shared custody of his three minor children with Tish: Miley Ray, 17; Braison, 16; and Noah, 10. Billy Ray adopted Trace and Brandi, Tish's kids from a previous marriage, but those two are now of legal age.

A source told E! News that the breakup was "a long time coming," with no third-party acting as a catalyst.

This will be Billy Ray's second divorce; he split with first wife, Cindy Smith, in 1991 and married Leticia Finley in 1992.

Miley Cyrus versus Olivia Newton-John: Who's the more believable video faux ho?

Oh my. Miley Cyrus' new video -- not the lap-dance one, though you can see that here -- almost goaded the Ministry into scanning and uploading that Instamatic shot from back in the day, when we tarted ourselves up in ridiculous shorts, a tight top and Mom's high heels and posed like what we thought a tramp would pose like in the living room in broad daylight to immortalize how bad that bright red lipstick really looked with that perm.

Almost. But dignity prevailed. Plus our mom would kill us. Even though she took the picture. But you didn't hear us say that.

Instead, we present Miss Cyrus in "Who Owns My Heart" versus Olivia Newton-John in "You're the One That I Want" -- a smackdown video battle of good girls pretending to be bad girls, relying heavily on suspension of disbelief from the audience to deliver the goods.

Watch the videos, then vote, then cleanse your palate after the break with Stockard Channing delivering a little perspective as bad girl Rizzo in that same little Newton-John flick, "Grease," a movie made about 15 years before Miley was, you know, born and stuff.

Pretty cool.

'Miley Cyrus' on 'SNL': Pretty cool? [video] [poll]

Miley Cyrus is absolute sunshine, like, God's gift -- that according to Billy Ray Cyrus on "The Miley Cyrus Show" on "Saturday Night Live," where of course neither Cyrus actually appeared.

New "SNL" cast member Vanessa Bayer did her Miley to fellow newbie Paul Brittain's Johnny Depp, with guest host Bryan Cranston of "Breaking Bad" bringing the Billy Ray in a sketch that was alternately pretty cool, pretty creepy and pretty on the nose.

Musical guest Kanye West gave his "Power" performance a music video vibe, breaking with tradition with a white backdrop and many dancers, treating viewers tuning in mid-show to a moment of "Did I enter the right channel? Really?" (See that video after the break, below.)

In other "SNL" news, Fred Armisen, the soon-to-be-ex-husband of Elizabeth Moss, was spotted out on the town, making out periodically with fellow cast member Abby Elliot, according to the New York Post.

Again we ask, pretty cool?

PREACH IT! Kristen Stewart has a threesome on camera! Ha. Made you look

Threesome-threesome

Achieving fame is hard. Maintaining it is even harder. (Heidi Montag burns at least 800 calories daily through her relentless PR campaigning alone.) Still, we here at Preach It! have managed to discover the base formula for fame preservation -- at least, for fall 2010, anyway.

Pay attention, class:

Marijuana smoking plus threesomes OR lesbian kissing equals headlines.

Three actresses have announced new film roles in recent months. All three have at least two of the three pieces of the formula above. And all three have been snapping up headlines left and right.

"EXCLUSIVE!" Hollywood Life booms. "Girl Gone Wild: Jennifer Aniston Goes Topless, Smokes Pot & Has Threesomes In Her New Film 'Wanderlust'!"

Also from Hollywood Life: “K-Stew’s Shocking New Role: She Has a Threesome & Brags About Oral Sex! Twi-Hards, Are You Ready for This?”

That's K-Stew as in Kristen Stewart, for those of you who aren't up on the tabloid lingo.

Finally, there's Miley Cyrus, whose next movie role -- pot smoking, blah blah blah -- has ...

Miley Cyrus, Liam Hemsworth break up (because no one saw this coming)

Miley-Cyrus-Liam-Hemsworth-breakup

Our lovely little Miley Cyrus is almost 18, and like so many her age, she's having a bit of -- how did Britney Spears so eloquently put it? -- that "not a girl, not yet a woman" thing. Which means, of course, that the nice boy next door has got to go.

Gossip Cop reports exclusively that Miley and her dutiful, charming Aussie boyfriend-costar Liam Hemsworth have called it quits. So much for Liam the steadying influence: He kept her from a bit of over-exposure by getting her to delete her Twitter account. They took a bike ride together before the Oscars and ate at In-N-Out. And, judging from this picture, he even seemed to have the ability to ignore the paparazzi while she acknowledged them.

Maybe she needed someone who's up to her cage-dancing ways? We're guessing some bad boy is next. Well, Tiger Woods is single ... .

PREACH IT! Miley Cyrus' carefully planned rebellion presses on

Miley-cyrus-wild-child “Miley is a bad girl!” Hollywood Life shrieked Tuesday morning on its shocking candy pink website. “[She] shakes her booty and sings about sex in front of her mom!”

Clutch those pearls!

Hollywood Life isn’t the only outlet voicing hysteria over Miley Cyrus’ supposedly scandalous foray into adulthood. And by scandalous, in this case, we mean a carefully orchestrated multi-step roll-out that clearly has an official stamp of approval from Miley's stage parents.

Yes, Miley has been dressing in black leotards and short shorts and doing movies that require slightly more eyeliner than usual. In "The Last Song," her first post-"Hannah Montana" movie, she played a girl who shoplifted once, feels really bad about it and now rescues turtle hatchlings for fun.

In Miley's next movie, “LOL: Laughing Out Loud,” coming out next year, she plays a character who has sex, engages in a lesbian kiss and smokes pot. Apparently, that’s the same thing as being a real-life wild child -- at least for the tabs.

Cyrus has had some scandalous moments off-screen, but they’ve been buried in the media -- we prefer a lawsuit-free lifestyle and won’t repeat them here -- but if this is the biggest public teen meltdown the media has to work with, times truly have changed.

Drew Barrymore was a child regular at Studio 54, smoked cigarettes at age 9, was a bona fide ...

PREACH IT! Good signs from Reese Witherspoon and Angelina Jolie

Reese-witherspoon We’ve been grooving over the paparazzi pics of sunny Reese Witherspoon signing a fan’s shirt. With so many bad celebrity stories emerging this summer -- Mel Gibson, Lindsay Lohan -- the pics are a welcome respite.

According to Autograph magazine, Witherspoon is one of the A-list women best known for accommodating autograph-seeking fans and professional signature collectors.

"Sweet lady, good signer," says the magazine’s Steve Cyrkin. “Reese is as unaffected by fame as she is beautiful, and loves her fans.”

Of course, not all celebrities are so gracious to the fans who made them rich and famous.

"Demi Moore," Cyrkin dishes. "Bad signer, bad attitude. Treats fans like they're ghosts. She completely ignores them as if they're not there."

Other "bad signers" include Cameron Diaz and Barbra Streisand.

Diaz is "incredibly hard to get an autograph from," Cyrkin explains, "but at least she's usually nice enough to tell you she won't sign."

Not so Streisand.

"She's known to be rude and demeaning in public and very rarely signs," Cyrkin says. "I don't ...

Miley Cyrus courts gays, salutes Bret Michaels at House of Blues

Miley Cyrus - New Music - More Music Videos

It looks like our girl is almost all grown up.

On Monday night, Miley Cyrus held her own at an intimate concert for press and fans at West Hollywood's House of Blues, an hourlong set that included material from her new disc, "Can't Be Tamed."

Miley-cyrus-cant-be-tamed The past few weeks have been turbulent for Cyrus in the scandal department, but the Ministry is pleasantly surprised to see Miley focusing on her day job -- performing. Scantily clad dancers, tons of hair tossing and a "Storytellers" vibe permeated, with a few notable moments.

The first was her cover of "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," a tribute to Bret Michaels

"Let's all send our prayers out to Bret; this one's for him," Cyrus cooed, later replacing Jay-Z's name with Michaels' in a lyric from "Party in the U.S.A."

A second endearing moment was the track "My Heart Beats for Love," an homage to Cyrus' gay best friend and gay fans.

"I wrote this for mostly all my gay fans," she said, "or for anyone who has ever felt discriminated or judged."

MTV live-streamed the concert, and when the lenses shuttered, Cyrus let her hair down with a Joan Jett medley, including hits "I Love Rock 'n' Roll," "Cherry Bomb" and "Bad Reputation."
