Lady Gaga drags Jo Calderone backstage at the MTV VMAs [Updated]

Lady Gaga as Joe Calderone at the MTV VMAs

Lady Gaga befuddled audiences when she showed up at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday dressed as a character she called "Jo Calderone."

Gaga appeared in drag as her alter ego — a guy with a greaser hairstyle and a sort of New Jersey accent — throughout the telecast. Backstage after the show, reporters anticipated the arrival of the pop star, eager to get to the bottom of the bizarre stunt.

But Gaga, who deigned to answer questions from only four outlets she had pre-selected, was still in character.

[Updated, 9:40 a.m., Aug. 30: See the profanity-riddled interview here, but be warned: Calderone has a very dirty mouth.]

Asked if she was able to express herself more fully as Calderone than as Gaga, she/he replied: "I don't understand the question." (Apparently, Gaga is Method.)

Still, the reporter pressed on, trying to get the singer to open up about the weird act.

"Well, she's just really [angry] at me right now," Calderone explained, his speech peppered with quite a variety of colorful expletives. "And she said ... 'If you really love me, you'll go instead of me and you'll get in that spotlight.' So I did."

Oh, we totally get it now!

Calderone went on to describe himself as Jersey-bred Average Joe: "My family's from Palermo, Sicily. And I'm not a singer or a model or actor or anything, I'm just a guy."

And how much longer can the public expect to see Gaga as Calderone?

"I'm gonna be here about five more minutes."

And that was the best news we received all night.

Lady Gaga does a striptease to promote her upcoming VMA gig

Lady Gaga is taking it off for the VMAs

Lady Gaga is known for her high-concept get-ups, but a new promo for MTV's 2011 Video Music Awards is really about what the singer ain't wearing.

Several stark black-and-white spots hit the airwaves this week featuring Gaga at her piano, belting out her latest single, "You and I."

A fever gets ahold of our Lady, however, prompting her to yank off of her bra and bare her teeth. Looks like one heck of a performance is on tap?

"Sometimes I'm really happy when I write music; sometimes I'm really angry," she waxes at one point in the spot below. "Sometimes I'm really drunk, or sometimes I'm super-sober."

The Ministry would certainly need a few cocktails before embarking upon a piano striptease. Gaga will perform live on the VMAs on Aug. 28.

Britney Spears' 'Femme Fatale' lures Lady Gaga to Atlantic City

Britney Spears and Lady Gaga

Two pop stars walk into Atlantic City -- and though we wish a rabbi and priest were there too, it was no joke that Lady Gaga attended a Britney Spears concert this weekend.

In New Jersey's seaside gambling town, Spears brought her "Femme Fatale" tour to thrill locals and high rollers. Gaga counted herself among them Saturday night, clad in a leather bikini top and cap.

"I have a very special guest here tonight, Lady Gaga is here!" Spears told fans to deafening screams. Spears blew kisses at the "Bad Romance" singer as she shot up a hand and acknowledged the fans.

The sighting makes perfect sense to the Ministry, since before Gaga hit it big, she'd penned a few tracks for Britney, and Brit caught the "Monster Ball" when Gaga came through L.A. a year ago -- but some folks seemed to think the appearance symbolized the end of an alleged feud involving the two.

Fans erupted in a Twitter war back in February over which star was more popular, and that escalated into some she-said / she-said over Gaga's onstage comments about refusing to lip-sync in concert -- which some had taken as a direct shot at Spears. Whatever was really going on, it's apparently over now.

Watch peace unfold, below.

Lady Gaga cries over Marko's 'So You Think You Can Dance' number

Lady Gaga cries on "So You Think You Can Dance"

Pop royalty isn't immune to emotion -- just ask Lady Gaga, who broke down in tears Wednesday night appearing on "So You Think You Can Dance."

The recording artist and dancer popped by to lend her expertise on the competition show, hosted by Brit Cat Deeley. During a heavy number from contestant Marko, clad in Versace with her peppermint hair, Lady Gaga got all verklempt.

"There were so, so many things that I did wrong when I was younger and so many thing I wish I could take back," she said, waterworks flowing. "I felt every moment of that through your dance tonight."

Check out the dance and the judges' comments.

Ryan Seacrest assembles Lady Gaga, Coldplay, John Mayer and more for online concert

RyanseacrestOne would likely need Ryan Seacrest's Rolodex to assemble a roster of superstars for a two-day, online streaming music festival -- so it's probably best that the host has taken it upon himself to do just that.

Lady Gaga, Coldplay, Sting, Usher, Carrie Underwood, Nicki Minaj, John Mayer and the Black Eyed Peas are among those set to perform at the Las Vegas music festival Seacrest is spearheading with iHeartRadio.

Seacrest has also invited Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler, Kenny Chesneyand David Guetta for the digital to-do, set for Sept. 23-24 at the MGM Grand.

Lopez, from Seacrest's "American Idol" family, showed up on the "Today" show Monday to join in announcing the event, with talk turning to another announcement folks are waiting to hear from her: whether she'll as a judge on the Fox singing competition.

"I have no announcement to make as of this moment, but I promise ... you'll be the first to know," she teased.

Lady Gaga's meat dress served under glass at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Lady-gaga-meat-dress-hall-f

Lady Gaga's meat dress has been preserved and again presented for public consumption, this time on display at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, along with her meat boots. The meat dress was famously worn by Lady Gaga at the MTV Video Music Awards in September.

"It's going to be in a case and we are putting some canisters in there to control the humidity, and then we have this other canister that soaks up the glutens," Hall of Fame chief curator Jim Henke told MTV News. "But it's in a sealed case and we have the gels to control the environment in there."

The dress seen 'round the world was put into dry storage with the shoes after the event, with a chemical preservation process that turned the items into a fashionista's version of beef jerky. Henke explained to MTV that they'd worked with a taxidermist and put the ensemble -- put together by designer Franc Fernandez and stylist Nicola Formichetti and worn by Lady Gaga when she accepted her video of the year VMA for for "Bad Romance"-- onto a dress form while it was still wet.

The dress and boots turned brown from the preservation process, necessitating a paint job to return them to their original tartare tones.

Sadly, there's no meat purse under glass, but you can relive the raw experience with the Ministry's picture post from last year.

Eminem backtracks on Lady Gaga diss, calls her an 'incredible talent'

While Eminem's recent lyrical diss Lady Gaga got some little monster paws swatting, the star is now backtracking on his words.

"I think Lady Gaga, as [an] artist, she's undeniable," Em said during a sit-down at Tennessee's Bonnaroo Music Festival.

In a track titled "Kiss," the rapper spits, "Tell Lady Gaga she can quit her job at the post office / She's still a male lady." Looked as if someone hadn't gotten the memo that, while not a dude, she was born this way.

"That was one of them things, sometimes I get a joke in my head and I kinda want to share it with the world," Eminem told Fuse.

"It's all in fun, it's hip-hop ... as far as an artist, she's dope. She's an incredible talent," he said.

We're glad for the kind words, considering the sadder to come out of the same festival this week: Two people have died, a 24-year-old man from hyperthermia, and a woman whose cause of death is unknown.

Eminem adds Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber to his diss list with 'A Kiss'

Eminem disses Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber with 'A Kiss'

Eminem is back to dissing his peers, with Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber landing as his newest targets in the single "A Kiss."

The rapper and Royce da 5'9" constitute the duo Bad Meets Evil, which has an EP coming out next week. The brisk staccato in the song resurfaces rumors that Mother Monster is a hermaphrodite and equates the Biebs to a Satanic behemoth.

Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber dissed by Eminem "Tell Lady Gaga she can quit her job at the post office / She's still a male lady," he raps, adding a more concise (and explicit) description regarding her rumored male parts. But he's about a year too late, it's been a while since people have accused the fashion icon of being a dude.

As for the ever-present Bieber, apparently Eminem thinks the Canadian pop star and Billboard Music Award recipient who tied with him for six awards this year has been forsaken by God.

"Him don't give a damn about Bieber, do Him? / What a demon, a behemoth, evil just seems to be seeping through him," he raps.

This coming from a man whose collaborative album is titled "Hell: The Sequel." If you're prepared for brusque lyrics and an onslaught of cussing, listen to "A Kiss" here.

It's no secret that the "8 Mile" star has built his Grammy-lined career with shock value and explicit libretto. Perhaps he's just saying if it ain't broke don't fix it? Other celebrities initiated into the "Dissed By Eminem Club" include Moby, Christopher Reeve, the Insane Clown Posse, 'N SYNC's Chris Kirkpatrick, Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst, Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson, Kim Kardashian, Britney Spears, Elton John, Mariah Carey, Nick Cannon, Ja Rule and Michael Jackson.

But "A Kiss" isn't all disses, at least not for Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj, whom the duo seem to have an affinity for.

"Aw hell Shady, he'll tell it like it is / So Katy Perry he's on her tail / He's tailgating," Eminem raps about the "Teenage Dream" singer.

As for Nicki, well, her last name sounds like ménage, doesn't it?

Are Gaga and the Biebs are worthy of Eminen's disses, or is Mr. Mathers just being a bully? Tell us in comments.

Fashion Icon award winner Lady Gaga reveals: Anna Wintour texts [Video]

Lady Gaga at the CFDA Awards Lady Gaga came up a big winner in New York City on Monday evening, as the singer and style eccentric was awarded the Council of Fashion Designers of America's Fashion Icon award.

In a mint-green wig and black dress, and having shed the massive gauzy train she'd arrived with, Gaga accepted the prize before the likes of Anderson Cooper, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, "Desperate Housewives" diva Marcia Cross, Karolina Kurkova, Lucy Liu and Jessica Alba. Click the pics for more photos.

While the audience got eyefuls of Gaga spectacle -- as did those who witnessed her significant wardrobe malfunction upon arrival, a double nipple-slip that made Khloe Kardashian's six-minute femme flash Tuesday morning look like amateur hour -- it was Vogue editor Anna Wintour who earned the most love from the Lady.

During her acceptance speech, Gaga revealed that Wintour had personally text-messaged her with the news that she'd landed the Icon trophy. "She text messages," Gaga confirmed.

"So she sent me a text message, and it said, 'We're so excited to tell you you won the CFDA Fashion Icon award,'" the singer said. Problem is, her ladyship thought it was a message from a different Anna, close pal Anna Trevelyan, an assistant to her stylist.

Photos: 2011 CFDA Fashion Awards"So I have a couple Annas in my phone, so my reply was, 'Yes bitch, we did it,'" Gaga said, earning a big laugh from the audience, as seen in the video below. "So quite quickly I got a reply that said, 'How lovely, and we will all be waiting to see what you will wear.'"

Gaga then realized who was on the other end of the text exchange. The anecdote was a crowd pleaser, entertaining the likes of Diane Von Furstenberg and Prabal Gurung -- but not everyone could relax and enjoy the evening.

Cooper had to bail, New York magazine said, "to deal with a Weiner."

Lady Gaga gets major album sales (and approval from Sarah Jessica Parker)

Ladygagagma
A Lady Gaga update for the Ministry's little monsters -- not that it's a surprise, but she's having a seriously good week.

A 1,108,000-album-selling week, that is, as her new disc "Born This Way" ziplined onto the charts -- meeting the staggering expectations for such a ubiquitous artist, says Rolling Stone.

Sarahjessicaparker In addition to countless stunt performances and promotional appearances in support of the record, her Ladyship's domination was largely due to an Amazon.com promotion that sold the entire album for just 99 cents.

"Anytime we can get people to purchase music legally, it's a good thing," Gaga's manager said in correspondence about "Born This Way's" success.

Another metric for Gaga doing good was her recent compliment from fashion plate Sarah Jessica Parker. The "Sex and the City" star, a successful fragrance and clothing designer in her own right, praised the singer.

She's "in a league of her own. I admire her aesthetic choices," Parker recently told MTV News. "I think we have very different silhouettes that we choose. I don’t mean that in a judgmental way. I mean that she is an extraordinary and singular and unique person."
