Lady Gaga breaks 20 million Twitter followers, praises the Boss

Lady Gaga reaches 20 million followers on Twitter

Lady Gaga, you've reached 20 million Twitter followers! What will you do next?

Plug Bruce Springsteen, apparently.

Indeed, pop star Gaga busted through 20 million followers on social network Twitter this past weekend -- becoming the first to do so and likely inspiring the teeniest bit of jealousy from pioneering tweeter Ashton Kutcher.

"Did ANYONE see SPRINGSTEEN on Fallon last night!!! Buy his new album. It is so genius its hard to even believe. Just mind-blowing passion," she wrote on Saturday, the day she passed the mark.

Not bad promotion for the Boss, considering she's the unchallenged pied piper of 140 characters or less.

Rounding out the top five most popular Twitter users (according to Mashable) are Justin Bieber at more than 18 million, Katy Perry boasting 15 million, hip-shaking Shakira at nearly 14.6 million and the bold tweets of Rihanna, followed by more than 14.5 million.

And, oh, funny you should ask: We're on Twitter too. @Latcelebs

Lady Gaga, boyfriend Taylor Kinney step out ahead of New Year's

Lady Gaga and boyfriend Taylor Kinney have gone public

Looks like there's really something to Lady Gaga and boyfriend Taylor Kinney: The pop star made her first public outing this week with her new beau.

"Vampire Diaries" actor Kinney played Gaga's love interest in the music video for her single "You and I" — and apparently found out a lot to chew on between the two of them.

Rumors that the pair were more than costars first surfaced in September, and now come photographs of the two strolling on the "Vampire Diaries" set in California, Kinney's arm around Gaga, who was wearing a leather jacket and not much else.

They look like love birds to us. Gaga last dated aspiring fitness guru Luc Carl (whose behavior she likened to an infant's in an interview with Vogue last year). If you believe certain rumors, well, things are moving much quicker with Kinney.

One report suggested the two were house hunting in Taylor's native Lancaster, Pa., though a local real estate agent denied it. Something we know Gaga is committed to: dropping the ball in Times Square come New Year's Eve. At the request of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Gaga will push the magic button that starts the countdown to 2012. She's also expected to perform.

Ministry note: We totes approve of Taylor. He's hot, has a job, likes Ducati bikes (note his T-shirt in the photo we linked to) and isn't the author of something called "The Drunk Diet." (That laureate would be Luc.)

Lady Gaga on her improved Oscar chances: 'I'm so happy'

Eltongaganom2

Lady Gaga and Elton John could soon share more than the stage, given the performers are on a short list for the best original song Oscar -- and Gaga is thrilled about the recognition.

"Just heard my duet 'Hello, Hello' with Elton is up for nomination at the Oscars!" she tweeted from Japan on Tuesday.

"Gnomeo & Juliet is such a beautiful film. I'm so happy!!"

Gaga and Elton are on a narrowed-down list released by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences on Monday, with nearly 40 other performers that will duke it out for the final nomination slots (announced Jan. 24).

They'll go up against original tracks from "The Muppets,' Mary J. Blige and her "The Living Proof" from "The Help," and folks like will.i.am and Zooey Deschanel (for a song she belts in the latest "Winnie the Pooh" adventure).

Gaga isn't concerned exclusively with accolades at the moment, however, she's happy her new album "Born This Way" has been so well received by her fans.

"Sipping tea in Japan with Haus. Feeling so grateful. We sold about 1 million albums a month worldwide since the release of BORN THIS WAY," she tweeted

What do you think of the duo's Academy Awards chances? Tell us in comments.

Lady Gaga saluted by the Trevor Project with stars and songs

Lady Gaga was honored by the Trevor Project

If Lady Gaga knows anything, it's theatricality -- so it's more than fitting that the Trevor Project's annual holiday gala, Trevor Live, Sunday night was a wintry song and dance in celebration of the pop star's efforts to stop bullying.

The Hollywood Palladium housed the shindig, under the creative direction of "Rock of Ages" helmer Adam Shankman, and featured a huge roster of celebrity performers and "Parks and Recreations" star Amy Poehler as emcee

Leading up to Gaga's big moment was "Glee" star Darren Criss pulling out a show-stopping rendition of Tom Jones' "It's Not Unusual." Leann Rimes later performed a ballad from her own catalog, Queen Latifah offered up "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," and engaged duo Neil Patrick Harris and chef David Burtka sang "You're The Top."

Plenty of exciting faces pleased the Ministry, including our table buddy Dianna Agron in vintage Chloe, as well as Amber Heard, Zachary Quinto, Michelle Pfieffer and Zac Efron.

The Trevor Project provides telephone hotline and online support for LGBT and questioning youth in their struggles with bullying, family acceptance and more -- and on Sunday bold names helped tell the stories of several youths whose lives were affected by the Trevor team.

Pehaps the evening's most poignant tale was that of 14-year-old Jamey Rodemeyer, who took his own life in September. Jamey's sister and parents were on hand to present to Gaga, assisted by "Glee"'s Chris Colfer. Gaga did not shy from the very recent tragedy -- expressing her disbelief that Jamey's school has yet to address the bullying he cited as cause for suicide.

"As much as we can, come together, as it will take a village and an army -- countries and continents, too -- to make bullying a hate crime," Gaga said to a standing ovation.

Other highlights included the first "Magic Mike" pairing on record -- Joe Manganiello and Matt Bomer took to the stage and joked about their past few months playing strippers for Steven Soderbergh.

And let us not forget about pot jokester Miley Cyrus, who belted her song "The Climb" with perfect pitch, subtlety and without any additional comment. Well played.

Lady Gaga's 'Marry the Night' video: five delicious moments

Lady Gaga has release her "Marry the Night" video

Lady Gaga has an early holiday present for her little monsters: a music video to accompany her new track "Marry the Night."

In the Ministry's time-honored tradition, we're bringing you our highlights of the video, which you can watch in all its 14 minutes of glory below.

A distinct '80s vibe permeates the usual arty Gaga fare; from color scheme to wardrobe (with a shout out to the sweet black Trans-Am the Lady grinds all over), there's a "Who's That Girl" situation happening. We do not fear any Gaga-Madonna comparison, so take it to comments if you have a beef.

While the choreography leans toward what we've come to expect — brisk movement but nothing exact or exciting on, say, a Beyoncé level — she more than makes up for in narrative.

Our favorite bits include ...

The procedure: The video starts with a tableau in what we can only imagine is the most depressing Berlin women's clinic ever, where Gaga is undergoing some kind of procedure accompanied by her own voice-over. It's a bit unpleasant to watch, but registers brave in a music category that's usually full of Katy Perry's candy shtick or Rihanna's blatant bath house romping.

The silver lining: Even in her darkest hours, Gaga turns to the whimsy of her work for an injection of optimism. While being wheeled on a gurney by two nurses to some cruel fate, Gaga turns her frown upside down by saying, "For example, those nurses? They're wearing next season Calvin Klein. So am I." It really is the little things.

Lady Gaga paying big bucks to Dad, playing Santa in New York City

Lady Gaga gives 50 percent of her earnings to her dad

Lady Gaga's father, Joe Germanotta, has one generous little elf on his hands: His pop diva daughter reportedly pays out half of her income to him.

Gaga, real name Stefani Germanotta, is said to pay Joe 50% of her earnings via their two companies, Team Love Child and Mermaid Music. She even purchased a New York City restaurant for her patriarch, according to the New York Post.

"There’s really no justifiable sense to doing a 50/50 deal with anyone in your career, other than someone you’re partners in a band with," one entertainment lawyer told the Post regarding the atypical arrangement.

If Gaga chooses to keep all her cash in the family, that's her prerogative. She gives plenty to others through her creativity, including her latest endeavor: a stylish holiday workshop at Barneys New York.

The "Bad Romance" singer will take over the entire men's department for Gaga's Workshop, a holiday-themed pop-up shop that opens Monday night just before midnight and remains open until Jan. 2. Barney's will donate 25% of all sales from the shop to her Born This Way Foundation

Need more Gaga to trim your tree? She's hosting her very own special, "A Very Gaga Thanksgiving," Thursday on ABC.

Lady Gaga biopic headed to Lifetime TV

Lady Gaga's life story is coming to Lifetime
Amazing news, Lady Gaga's little monsters -- you get to learn all about your mother.

Or some folks at Lifetime television would hope so, as the cable channel is moving forward with an original movie about the star's meteoric rise to fame. "Fame Monster: The Lady Gaga Story" is in pre-production at the network, reports say.

While Gaga herself isn't involved in the picture, the network reportedly will chart the life and times of Stefani Germanotta -- the Manhattan schoolgirl who broke from her Italian Catholic roots to become a musical sensation.

The pic is based on the 2010 book, '"Poker Face: The Rise and Rise of Lady Gaga" by Maureen Callahan. No star has been cast as the Lady, a daunting task at least thanks to some of the getups she's prone to wearing

"When we first meet her she is a dark-haired, offbeat, very talented and intensely ambitious teen. She comes from a Italian/American well-off, close-knit, Upper West Side NYC family," a casting note for the project reads.

Who do you think should play Gaga for Lifetime? Tell us in comments.

Lady Gaga towers over Obama fundraiser in Northern California

Lady Gaga attended an Obama fundraiser in Northern California

This post has been updated. See below for details.

Lady Gaga was front and center at a fundraiser starring President Obama held Sunday in Atherton, north of Palo Alto, near the San Francisco Bay.

Her tune "Poker Face" was playing in the house around 8 p.m., and Lady Gaga entered a party tent in the backyard moments later. She towered over the group of donors and even the president, courtesy of sky-high heels plus a bouffant black-and-blond hairdo that on its own added six inches to her stature.

Wearing a floor-length sleeveless lacy black dress, Gaga took a seat at the middle table in a seven-table setup and stood up with the rest of the guests when Obama entered. He spoke for about eight minutes, and though he didn't acknowledge the pop star's presence, it was likely they'd crossed paths earlier during greetings inside the house.

The New York resident had performed Saturday at the I Heart Music festival in Las Vegas, dedicating a song to Jamey Rodemeyer, a gay teen who committed suicide last week after being teased about his sexuality. "I am meeting with our President," Gaga said Wednesday on Twitter. "I will not stop fighting. This must end. Our generation has the power to end it. Trend it #MakeALawForJamey."

[Updated, 12:30 p.m. Sept. 26: During a Q&A session after the speech at the $38,500-a-head fundraiser, Gaga referenced 14-year-old Rodemeyer, read a letter from a fan about another bullying victim and thanked the president for what he's accomplished thus far in office.]

Lady Gaga, a champion for the gay community, had been outspoken in rallying her fans to support the end of the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy, which Congress in December voted to rescind. Obama and military leaders certified in July that lifting the policy wouldn't adversely affect the military, kicking off a 60-day waiting period that resulted in DADT coming to an end last week.

But another community that heard from the president over the weekend was not quite as rallied.

In response to an Obama speech Saturday to the Congressional Black Caucus, which he ended by saying, "Take off your bedroom slippers, put on your marching shoes, shake it off, stop complaining, stop grumbling, stop crying, we are going to press on, we've got work to do, CBC," Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Los Angeles) expressed some confusion about whom the president had been talking to.

Waters noted Monday that Obama "would never say that to the gay and lesbian community, who really pushed him on 'don't ask don't tell.'" (Or, she said, to the Hispanic or Jewish communities.)

Might Obama benefit from soaking up some essence of Gaga, as posited in a recent business-school case study suggesting entrepreneurs could learn a thing or two from her meteoric rise to success?

The top Lady Gaga-style moves, boiled down by Smart Money magazine: Build a community, rewrite the rules if they don't work for you, and position yourself as the underdog.

Makes sense, though we can't quite imagine Obama comfortable with a speech including the Gaga quote cited by the mag: "I was never the winner. I was the loser."

The president's West Coast fundraising trip -- with appeals tailored to each group he meets with, according to Politics Now -- hits L.A.'s Westside on Monday.

Is Taylor Kinney Lady Gaga's new boyfriend? [Video]

Lady Gaga is reportedly hanging out with Taylor Kinney

Attention, all of Lady Gaga's devout little monsters: You may have a new stepdaddy, according to rumors that Mother Monster is dating hunky actor Taylor Kinney.

Kinney plays Gaga's bathtub companion in the "Yoü and I" music video and has credits from "The Vampire Diaries" also under his belt. A peep at the video may have you asking, "What's not to love?"

The two are "hooking up," a source told People, after sparking on the set of the Laurieann Gibson-directed video. The mag said the pair were spotted in Mission Viejo over Labor Day weekend.

Gaga previously dated personal trainer-shaggy rocker Luc Carl. Kinney 's other TV credits include including "Trauma," "Bones," "CSI: NY" and "Rizzoli & Isles."

Thoughts on Lady Gaga's potential man friend? No, not the guy sitting on the piano. That's Jo Calderone, dontcha know.

Lady Gaga finally has a penis -- thanks to Jo Calderone [Poll]

Britney Spears and a penis-packing Jo Calderone

Lady Gaga reportedly wore a prosthetic penis to the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, making her Jo Calderone alter ego portrayal seem that much more, um, real.

The dish comes courtesy of an anonymous insider speaking to Us Magazine, and we're simply not going to question it, given the epic nature and societal significance of the revelation.

Another delicious detail? The "drag king" packed that package in Armani underwear, Us said.

Word of the penis no doubt comes as good news to those in the "Lady Gaga is a hermaphrodite" camp, circa 2008. No chorus of "We told you so," please -- it's just as fake as it ever was.

So, did Jo pick up his equipment in the "Entourage" prop room? According to Show Tracker, Vince's fake junk was notably smaller than the Mark Wahlberg falsie available on the "Boogie Nights" set.
