Russell Brand deported from Japan, wife Katy Perry tweets

Russell Brand deported from JapanActor Russell Brand was deported from Japan on Sunday thanks to offenses from more than a decade ago, according to wife Katy Perry.

The "Arthur" star visited the tsunami-ravaged country to see Perry on her "California Dreams" tour, which has stops in Nagoya, Tokyo and Osa, but Brand was ousted soon after his arrival.

"So...my husband just got deported from Japan. I am so. sad. I brought him all this way to show him my favorite place," Perry tweeted. "It was for priors from over 10 years ago! ...But of COURSE I [love] my Japanese fans & the show #MUSTGOON no matter the daily aftershocks or husband kidnappings!"

Welcome, to the drug-related deported celebrities club, Russell. Paris Hilton feels your pain.

Brand, an admitted sex and drug addict, cleaned up his act before marrying Perry last October, but has a history of priors in England. He was also arrested in 2010 on suspicion of attacking a paparazzo at the Los Angeles International Airport. Yet Brand seemed to take his most recent predicament in stride.

"Planning escape from Japanese custody. It's bloody hard to dig a tunnel with a chopstick," he offered.

Brand's previous infractions include 11 separate occasions in connection with drug offenses and public indecency, according to RadarOnline. He's openly acknowledged the arrests before, but Tokyo immigration officials did not comment on the incident because of privacy issues, reports said.

"Stockholm syndrome kicking in. Just asked my guard out for (vegetarian) sushi. He giggled," Brand added. "Alcatraz! Shawshank Redemption! And now this! Ah, sweet blue bird of freedom!" he tweeted once the incident was over.

Russell Brand and Katy Perry: 'Tempest' premiere twosome

Katy Perry and Russell Brand Just a few steps across Hollywood Boulevard from "The Fighter's" premiere Monday, stars of a Shakespearean inclination banded together to premiere Julie Taymor's rock-and-goth-tinged "The Tempest."

Cast members Helen Mirren, Chris Cooper, Djimon Hounsou and Russell Brand, with wife Katy Perry, turned up to celebrate the film adaptation of the play, which Taymor estimated was 400 years old to the day when she introduced the film.

An after-party commenced at H.wood, with Mirren entertaining a host of visiting family members, "Glee" star Chris Colfer chatting up guests after his Jay Leno taping and Hounsou looking cozy with bride Kimora Lee Simmons.

Hounsou portrays the disfigured slave Caliban, a role the actor wanted nothing to do with.

"I screen-tested for [a different version] of 'The Tempest' years ago and had a bad experience, but then my manager and wife made me meet with Julie. Then I couldn't say no," he told the Ministry.

Though Caliban has high drama with his sorceress master Prospera, the actor gets some on-screen levity with the colorful Brand's Trinculo.

"It was about four hours in makeup everyday," Hounsou said of the monstrous touches he was given, "so by the time I was finished I was in that dark place, but I think you can see it was fun [with Russell]."

In one such scene, Hounsou is covered by a large cloth and Brand attempts to identify if Caliban is man or creature. Identify in the literal sense.

We asked if it was a normal workday, getting felt up by Russell Brand?

"No," the actor said, smiling.

'VH1 Divas': Kathy Griffin rips on Bristol Palin for the troops [pictures]

Nikki-minaj-vh1-divas"VH1 Divas Salute the Troops" aired Sunday night with performances from the likes of Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, Sugarland, HeartGrace Potter & the Nocturnals and more -- and the Ministry has access to exclusive pictures of the divas taken Friday night at the taping of the USO concert in a hangar at the Marine Corps Air Station in Miramar in San Diego.

Going global, Hayley Williams and Paramore taped their performance from an Army base in Kuwait, in keeping with the military theme of the show. Sugarland, meanwhile, joined in a tribute to diva Aretha Franklin, who recently had surgery for an unspecified illness.

The event was hosted by noted Levi Johnston supporter Kathy Griffin, who bashed on Bristol Palin's weight, calling her "the white Precious" -- a reference to Gabourey Sidibe's Oscar-nominated character -- and receiving a chorus of boos from the troops in the audience. This after Griffin had been issued some comedy guidelines for the evening.

"You can boo louder than that," Griffin said. "C'mon, boo me, I love it. I love it! War is hell! War is hell!"

Brandy, incidentally, was part of the diva lineup -- that'd be the same Brandy who just finished fourth to Bristol's third place on "Dancing With the Stars."

Russell Brand nabs Variety's Power of Comedy award

Russell-brand-comedy

Being funny is its own reward, but Russell Brand certainly enjoyed a perk on Saturday night -- the actor picked up Variety's first Power of Comedy award in downtown Los Angeles.

Power-of-comedy-gallery With new wife Katy Perry in tow, Brand turned up at Club Nokia for a program that featured performances by several of his heavyweight comic colleagues. Tickets were open to the public, with all proceeds benefiting the Noreen Fraser Foundation, a cancer-research nonprofit.

Aziz Ansari, B.J. Novak, Bob Saget, Patton Oswalt, Brandon T. Jackson and Garry Shandling were among those doing a few minutes for the good cause and for their pal Brand, with actor Justin Long serving as host.

"I think he's trying to cut the circulation off ... so he'll be faithful," Shandling said of Brand's trademark tight pants.

Perry took the joke in stride, sitting at a table front and center with a girlfriend.

Above Club Nokia's black-box stage, a VIP pre-reception hosted by the Sims 3 and Bing was attended by the likes of Brand's "The Tempest" costar Dame Helen Mirren, actress Lake Bell, the cast of "Outsourced," Sarah Silverman and "Little Britain" mastermind Matt Lucas. Katy Perry introduces Russell Brand, 'man of God'

Katy Perry and Russell Brand Man of God Newlywed Katy Perry gushes in this month's Harper's Bazaar that her husband Russell Brand has it all -- including her requisite dab of holiness?

"I always knew I wanted a great man of God, someone who was going to be an inspiration for people and also be a lovely husband and father," she says.

The songstress and actor were married in October, before friends and family in India. Harper's notes that Perry has "an unmissable 'Jesus' tattooed on her left wrist," and we all know how protective she gets of religious imagery and its use in art (right, Lady Gaga?).

Brand's bride also appreciates his mortal qualities as well.

"He's thought-provoking, articulate, a real advocate. I also definitely wanted to have a laugh. I have all that in him," she said.

PREACH IT! In which we report yet another crazy fact about Katy Perry and Russell Brand's wedding [poll]

Russell Brand and Katy Perry arrive in India for their wedding.

By now we all know that Katy Perry and Russell Brand got married Saturday in India. We know this in part because a bunch of journalists were in the neighborhood of the wedding and managed to file a report in between threats by security goons.

The most shocking aspect of their wedding? Not the price tag. Not the setting. It's the fact that, if reports are correct, Perry and Brand married without a prenuptial agreement.

We here at Preach It! have interviewed many a celebrity divorce lawyer over the years. You will be hard pressed to find a single one of them who thinks that the Perry-Brand decision is anything but certifiably insane.

In fact, when they aren't sitting around, eating kittens and filing their teeth into sharp points, celebrity attorneys will tell you that prenup-free star weddings are extremely rare. As in, nearly nonexistent.

After all, we're talking about a class of people that draws up contracts before they even move in with a significant other. They’re call co-habitation agreements. Would-be significant others are routinely asked to sign them before they’re offered the privilege of shacking up with a star.

So what, you may ask, does a typical celebrity prenup look like?
