Katie Holmes gets nearly naked for jewelry ads [Poll]

Katie Holmes

Katie Holmes for H. SternKatie Holmes is showing a lot of skin in her new ads for H. Stern jewelry.

How much skin?

Well, let's just say that it seems to be taking people a couple of glances before they're actually seeing the jewelry on display in the photo.

In one of the photos, shown at left, Tom Cruise's wife and Suri Cruise's mom is wearing an H. Stern necklace, a black bra that's about to fall off — and nothing else.

It's all pretty eyebrow-raising stuff from the mother of a 5-year-old.

But the near-nudity aside, our question is: Does the ad make you want to buy jewelry?

Brett Ratner reigns over CAA pre-Emmy party

Brett Ratner is man of the house at CAA Emmy party
Talent agency CAA fed and watered its stable of clients on Friday night, with a swanky pre-Emmy bash in Beverly Hills.

Eatery Bouchon, flanked in privacy shrubs, was taken over by partners Adam Berkowitz and Kevin Huvane to welcome the likes of Katie Holmes (sans Tom Cruise) and Ryan Seacrest with his lady Julianne Hough.

Jerry Bruckheimer chatted up CBS honcho Les Moonves and wife Julie Chen while Bravo's Andy Cohen circulated. Holmes snuck into the restaurant's kitchen to make her own baguettes with bakers, take-aways for her husband and daughter Suri, she told the bunch.

While the Emmy's celebrate the small screen, the unarguable man of the hour was Brett Ratner, taking compliments for landing the job of producer for the forthcoming Academy Awards. Ratner was circled by "Entourage" creator Doug Ellin and star Jeremy Piven, as well as funnygal Chelsea Handler and her hotelier boyfriend Andre Balasz

Seacrest and Hough opted for a romantic table for two on the patio, beside a fellow sweetheart table occupied by Kimora Lee Simmons and Djimon Hounsou. Huvane was one of the last men standing, sending guests into the night around 1 a.m.

Larry King rocks those boogie shoes in 'Dance 4 Your Life' PSA [Video]

Larry King has been spotted recently getting his dance on -- to promote heart health in people of all ages through a new public service campaign, "Dance 4 Your Life!"

After being interviewed by Angelina Ballerina, the suspenders-clad King and Nigel Lythgoe demonstrate that, well, just about any kind of dance will do when it comes to staying active. Rumor has it there are rather fabulous outtakes floating around from the PSA shoot, though a vast media conspiracy appears to be keeping King's best moves under wraps.

"Dance is an activity that is universally recognized and accessible across all socioeconomic levels, making it an ideal approach to promoting heart health," King, 77, said on his cardiac foundation's website, pointing out that it had partnered with the Dizzy Feet Foundation folks (Katie Holmes, Carrie Ann Inaba, Adam Shankman and Lythgoe, who appears willing to dance with just about anyone) "to address Americans' increasingly sedentary lifestyles and the resulting health issues."

"So You Think You Can Dance" judge Shankman, incidentally, is the director and choreographer on "Rock of Ages," currently filming in Miami and starring Holmes' husband, Tom Cruise.

The Larry King Cardiac Foundation, which funds heart surgery in patients who otherwise could not afford care, came about after the longtime CNN host recovered from a 1987 quintuple bypass.

"Dance 4 Your Life!" expands on Lythgoe's National Dance Day to keep folks' feet moving all year round. HIT Entertainment produced the PSA, hosted by its Angelina Ballerina.

Sunshine arms, everyone, sunshine arms.

Katie Holmes throws Tom Cruise a surprise 49th birthday bash

Katie Holmes threw her husband Tom Cruise a surprise birthday party Katie Holmes gave her husband Tom Cruise the gift of good old-fashioned elbow grease for his birthday -- by coordinating a surprise party for the action star all on her own.

On Sunday, for Cruise's 49th birthday, Holmes whipped up a private shindig at Miami Beach's SoHo House where 40 friends and family members toasted him.

At the top of the guest list was little Suri, Cruise and Holmes' well-dressed daughter, and Isabella and Connor -- Cruise's kids from his marriage to Nicole Kidman.

Italian-inspired dishes featuring shrimp and pasta were served before a chocolate birthday cake, according to People. Holmes oversaw planning from soup to nuts, the report says, even personally accepting RSVPs

Cruise is currently filming Adam Shankman's big screen adaptation of "Rock of Ages."

'Don't Be Afraid of the Dark' premiere: Katie Holmes, Guillermo del Toro, Bailee Madison shine the light

Katie Holmes at the "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" premiere

The final night of Los Angeles Film Festival got off to a hectic start Sunday as Katie Holmes, Guillermo del Toro and diminutive star Bailee Madison walked the red carpet for the world premiere of "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark."

The film, which Del Toro described as a Gothic tale like the kind he loved in his youth, focuses on young Sally, who comes to live in a spooky mansion that her father (Guy Pearce) is renovating with his new girlfriend (played by Holmes). Sally, played by Bailee, begins hearing voices in the basement and before long is being terrorized by ancient, evil creatures that feed on children's bones and teeth.

Given the film's extra-creepy factor, it's easy to wonder if 11-year-old Madison needed special coaching to get through the scary stuff, but Del Toro said no.

"She's a 4-by-4. She's an ATV," joked the producer, who'd thought he would need to help her through. She did just fine on her own, he said.

Young Bailee, who walked down the carpet with the poise of a 25-year-old, said she was "looking forward to being scared because I wanted to show the audience what it felt like."

And she had lots of room to do just that. Although the film was directed by Troy Nixey, it was co-written and produced by Del Toro, who said he relishes writing strong roles for women. In the case of Sally, he said, "she's actually the most adult character in the film."

Holmes was glad that the film dealt with more than fear.

"This film has great characters and a great family drama happening outside of the scares," she said, "which only increase the scares."

The audience at the premiere got more than on-screen scares: During a particularly suspenseful scene, the theater's fire alarm went off and everybody had to leave the building. Thankfully, it was a false alarm and people were allowed back in to watch the rest of the movie.

Tom Cruise tweets shirtless 'Rock of Ages' photo

Tomcruisestory Tom Cruise treated fans to a sneak peek of his latest character, Stacee Jaxx in "Rock of Ages," via Twitter on Friday. The shirtless pic proves he’s still got it, even at 48.

With his long flowing hair, bad boy tats, leather boots and seriously toned arms, he could be the envy of every '80s rocker. Better yet, he gets to cover "Wanted Dead or Alive" by Bon Jovi.

But can he sing? The answer is yes, according to his wife, Katie Holmes. Tom “is such an amazing performer,” she tells Access Hollywood. “The voice is incredible.”

Of course, Cruise did his research and took in a live performance of the show at the Pantages Theatre in February, before officially signing on. The Broadway musical and the film both follow a small-town girl and a boy from south Detroit who move to L.A. in 1987 to follow their rock 'n' roll dreams.

Adam Shankman is directing the A-list film cast, which also includes Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Mary J. Blige. The movie is set to open June 1, 2012.

Oprah Winfrey's long goodbye: Maria Shriver, Tom Cruise, Tyler Perry and more pay homage [Pictures]

Orpah gets a star-studded send off from Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith

For Oprah Winfrey, the beginning of the end was announcing in November 2009 that her long-running "The Oprah Winfrey Show" would be calling it quits after 25 years on the air. Following a supersized final season and trickling, teary-celeb tributes, the end is almost here.

Oprah Winfrey and Tom Cruise Taping "Oprah's Surprise Spectacular," her third-to-last show in Chicago, Winfrey hosted tons of famous names who came to pay homage to the queen of daytime television.

Maria Shriver, Madonna, Tyler Perry, Usher and famous couch-jumper Tom Cruise all graced the stage in front of thousands of fans at Chi-town's United Center. It was an event worth getting out of jury duty to witness.

"You have given me love, support, wisdom and, most of all, the truth," Shriver told Winfrey. "And I know I’m not alone in receiving those gifts from you."

A rather fitting performance came from Beyonce, clad in a tuxedo unitard, belting out her new tune "Run the World (Girls)." Atop a glowing podium fit for a female president, Beyonce flipped her hair and sang out, "My persuasion can build a nation."

Oprah can relate. Another female music tribute came from pint-sized Broadway vet Kristin Chenoweth, who performed with scores of formally dressed Morehouse College grads.

Power couple Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith came by, as did Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Katie Holmes, Queen Latifah,  Diane Sawyer and Michael Jordan (click the pics to see more photos from the star-studded event).

We were surprised and delighted to see Winfrey's longtime beau Stedman Graham trot out on stage; we imagine he has an insight or two after so many years with the mogul.

So might Maya Angelou, who appeared with Alicia Keys. As did Dakota Fanning, Jerry Seinfeld, Jamie Foxx, Rosie O'Donnell and John Legend via satellite

Other performers included Patti LaBelle, featuring Josh Groban, Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin.

Katie Holmes, apology shocker! Settling 'drug shocker' lawsuit, Star tabloid says it's sorry

Katie Holmes gets an apology in defamation settlement with Star magazine Katie Holmes, who filed a $50-million lawsuit against Star magazine over a January cover story suggesting she was a drug addict, has settled for a high-profile apology from the tabloid and a "substantial donation" to her charity of choice.

"In a recent issue of Star, we published headlines about Katie Holmes that could be read to suggest that she was addicted to drugs," reads the apology inside the mag's May 9 edition. "Star apologizes to Ms. Holmes for any misperception and will be making a substantial donation to charity on Ms. Holmes' behalf for any harm that we may have caused."

The magazine teases to the apology in a headline at the top of its May 9 cover; in January, next to a tired-looking photo of the actress, Star's cover had blared "Addiction Nightmare: Katie DRUG SHOCKER! The real reason she can't leave Tom." That turned out to refer to a story inside about the "addiction" potential in Scientologists' use of E-meters. Holmes and her husband, Tom Cruise, are well known as Scientologists.

In March, when the lawsuit was filed, Holmes' lawyer called the cover a "cheap trick on the public."

At that time, Star issued a statement asserting the "physical effect of the e-meter on its users is a matter of significant public concern" and stating "we plan to vigorously defend the suit filed by Ms. Holmes."

The actress, 32, released her own statement Wednesday, saying she accepted the apology. “With this dispute out of the way, I look forward to once again focusing my attention on my family and career," she said.

The amount of American Media Inc.'s donation to the Dizzy Feet Foundation, which Holmes co-founded and which brings dance training to underprivileged kids, was not made public.

'The Kennedys' miniseries premiere: Greg Kinnear, Katie Holmes toast political royalty

Greg Kinnear and Katie Holmes at 'The Kennedys' premiere
This post has been corrected. See the note below for details.

Hollywood royalty walked the red carpet to toast American royalty at the premiere of "The Kennedys" on Monday at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

The eight-part miniseries stars Greg Kinnear as John F. Kennedy and Katie Holmes as Jackie Kennedy, starting with a two-hour episode April 3 on Reelz Channel.

Kinnear was joined by wife Helen Labdon, and Holmes was accompanied by husband Tom Cruise at the Beverly Hills premiere. (Click on the pics for more photos.)

'The Kennedys' premiere photos The Jon Cassar-directed miniseries documents the lives of multiple generations of the political family. The project had originally been booted from the History Channel because the Kennedy family thought the interpretation was overdramatic and critical.

Barry Pepper plays Robert F. Kennedy and Charlotte Sullivan plays Marilyn Monroe in the series. Serge Houde, who portrays mobster Sam Giancana, joined Pepper and Sullivan at the Goldwyn Theater, as did Kristin Booth, the actress who appears as Ethel Kennedy in the series.

"The Middle" star Patricia Heaton and a pregnant Autumn Reeser, of "No Ordinary Family," walked the red carpet with Joan Collins and younger sister Jackie Collins.

In addition, "The Mentalist" actress Amanda Righetti, "24's" Powers Boothe and "Alias" actor Kevin Weisman were on hand for the festivities.

[For the record, 5:20 p.m. March 29: This post originally said Jackie Collins was Joan Collins' daughter. Jackie Collins is in fact Joan Collins' younger sister; the post has been revised to reflect that.]
