Justin Bieber meets Mrs. Bieber; happy couple plays Candyland

Justin Bieber with Avalanna Routh, aka #MrsBieber

When they threw a wedding for "Mrs. Bieber," everyone was present except the groom. Now Justin Bieber has met 6-year-old Avalanna Routh, and she's simply awesome, the singer says.

Routh, a fan of mani-pedi's and Ellen DeGeneres in addition to Bieber, has a rare type of brain cancer. She was diagnosed at 9 months old with an atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumor (AT/RT).

Since then, the little girl — hard to resist in her TV appearances — has had "countless" surgeries, chemotherapy, a stem cell transplant and radiation, according to the Daily News of Newburyport, Mass.  (The family has a home in Merrimac, Mass.)

The "Mrs. Bieber" story began last year at the Jimmy Fund Clinic pediatric cancer center at Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The staff, knowing Avalanna to be a big fan of Bieber, threw a pretend wedding. Her red T-shirt said "Future Mrs. Bieber" and there were flowers, a wedding cake and a singer.

In an appearance Tuesday on Boston sports radio show WEEI, Avalanna's mom, Aileen Routh, said the meeting with Bieber came about as a result of a Facebook page created by a family friend.

The page — "Get Avalanna to Meet Justin Bieber" — "went absolutely crazy," she said. A "very whirlwind" visit to New York to meet Bieber followed.

What did the happy pair do?

"We played Candyland," Avalanna said.

Selena Gomez granted restraining order against alleged stalker

Selena Gomez

A man accused of stalking Selena Gomez has been ordered to stay far away from the singer and her family for three years — and did we just hear boyfriend Justin Bieber breathe a sigh of relief?

L.A. Superior Court Judge William D. Stewart on Friday issued the restraining order against 46-year-old Thomas Brodnicki, who was accused of threatening to kill the 19-year-old "Wizards of Waverly Place" actress.

Brodnicki has two previous stalking convictions, L.A. Now reported in November. At the time the former Illinois resident pleaded not guilty to felony stalking of Gomez, whom authorities said he'd traveled across country to meet and then threatened to kill while on a psychiatric hold in October. The judge in the criminal case dropped the charge after determining prosecutors hadn't adequately proved their case.

Stewart, a civil court judge, had twice delayed issuing the restraining order against Brodnicki while waiting for him to respond. Then in December, Brodnicki filed a declaration that essentially consented to the restraining order.

"I know it is the only thing that will make me stay away from Selena," he said in the declaration, according to TMZ.

So. Gomez and her family are safe(r), the Biebs doesn't have to go medieval on anyone, and Brodnicki, who has a history of mental illness, agrees he's received due process.

Let's hope things stay that way.

Justin Bieber spreads holiday cheer, donates to Las Vegas school

Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber, a.k.a. Santa’s little helper, stopped by Whitney Elementary School in Las Vegas on Friday to spread a little Christmas cheer. The Beliebers were so excited to see the 17-year-old pop star, one girl even thought she was "gonna explode" -- and really, who can blame her?

Of course the fifth-grader, Jolie Leach, didn't actually burst from Bieber fever, and she even managed to keep her composure enough to give the Biebs a high five. Like a true fan, she told the Associated Press, she'll never wash her hand again.

Bieber visited to make good on a $100,000 promise he made to the school in September on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." In the end, Whitney Elementary got the check, a truckload of toys and a private show. Bieber's donation matches one made by Target, and the funds will be used for basic needs such as rent assistance.

"He really came for us. I'm so glad that he really came for us," fourth-grader Kynedi Harris said.

The school and its principal, Sherrie Gahn, have received praise and publicity for providing students, some of whom are homeless, with food, clothes and money for utility bills. Gahn told the "Ellen" show she made a pact with parents when she first came to the school eight years ago.

"I'll pay your electrical bill, your utilities, I'll give you food or clothes, whatever you need, as long as you give me your child and then help raise that child as a person of character," she said.

The children's struggles weren't lost on Bieber. Gahn said that during his performance, which included Christmas tunes from his album "Under the Mistletoe," the singer took time to tell the kids about his own tough upbringing and trips with his mom to their local food bank.

Justin Bieber tops Kim Kardashian as most-searched person of 2011

Justin Bieber and Kim Kardashian

Justin Bieber has overtaken Kim Kardashian as the most-searched person in 2011, according to the search engine Bing.

Looks like Kim just can't get a break.

Kardashian was the queen of search last year, but the combination of Bieber's My World 2.0 Tour, hit concert movie "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never," "Saturday Night Live" hosting job, Christmas album,  romance with Selena Gomez and the little matter of the now-pulled paternity suit over Mariah Yeater's baby were enough to push him to the top spot.

Meanwhile, Kardashian launched a new reality show, "Kourtney and Kim Take New York," got married and got divorced. It was quite a lot, but not enough to stop Bieber fever.

Several notable names dropped out of the top 10 this year, including Sandra Bullock and Jesse James. But President Obama may have fallen the furthest. In 2010, was the No. 5 most-searched person. In 2011, he was No. 49.

Two people who got huge boosts in 2011 were Gomez, who went from No. 50 to No. 11 (thanks, no doubt, to all the Bieber-smooching) and Jennifer Lopez, who wasn't in the top 50 last year and is now fifth.

Although Amy Winehouse's death was the fifth most searched-for news story for the whole year,  Winehouse herself did not make the top 10 most searched-for people.

Women did very well in 2011, however. Although Bieber was the No. 1 person and musician, the rest of the top 10 in both categories were women. Additionally, Chelsea Handler beat out Conan, Dave and Jay to be the most searched-for late night talk show host. And all of the top 10 reality stars were women.

Strangely, the most searched-for movie was not the final "Harry Potter" or "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 1," but Tom Cruise's "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol." The dominance of the fourth movie in the "Mission: Impossible" franchise makes one wonder if Bing is the preferred search engine of either the Church of Scientology, or animation fans (it's directed by animator Brad Bird).

Selena Gomez baby news: I’m going to be a big sister

Selena Gomez is going to be a big sister soon

Selena Gomez had some exciting baby news to announce Friday: She's going to be a big sister.

It turns out her mom, Mandy Dawn Cornett, is expecting her first child with husband Brian Teefey and Gomez, 19, couldn’t wait to tell her Twitter followers.

“Momma and Brian are finally letting me share the news... My mommys carrying my baby brother or sister :) I'm the happiest girl in the world!”

The soon-to-be big sis accompanied the tweet with a black-and-white photo of the couple, making the news that much sweeter.

However, a new sibling on the way isn't the only thing Gomez has to be thankful for this holiday season. Justin Bieber's girlfriend can rest easy through the New Year knowing her temporary restraining order against alleged stalker Thomas Brodnicki will remain in place until Jan. 6, reports E! Online.

The actress originally requested a permanent three-year restraining order against Brodnicki after he told a therapist he'd had thoughts of killing Gomez. But a judge denied the request (at least for now) because he was unable to appear in court on Wednesday, TMZ said. LAPD Det. Jose Viramontes told E! News that Brodnicki remains on psychiatric hold at a county hospital.

Justin Bieber discusses DNA test -- but what about that 'stache?

Justin Bieber and Usher

Justin Bieber worked up his Thanksgiving appetite doing more rounds in New York, hitting "The View" and David Letterman's show, among others, and answering some questions about that DNA test he took a week ago in New Jersey.

And, yes, that fuzz on his upper lip is in fact a moustache, on purpose.

The paternity allegation "shouldn't even be a discussion," he said Wednesday on "The View," explaining that he took the test in New Jersey not because he had to but because he wanted to. Even if Mariah Yeater doesn't submit her baby son Tristyn's DNA for testing, he said, he "wanted everything to be out there in the open."

(Yeater's attorney told TMZ on Wednesday that, yes, the child will be tested. And, no, they weren't pleased that the singer had his own test done without Team Yeater supervision.)

Whoopi Goldberg noticed Bieber's faint moustache, but the whole gang failed to give him a chance to explain it: It's Movember, the grow-a-'stache-in-November campaign that each year aims to raise money and awareness for men's health issues, including prostate cancer.

Oh, well, ladies, it's coming off soon: "End of November I'm gonna shave it," he told "The View" cohosts, "... and then it'll take another year and a half to grow  back."

Wednesday night on "Late Night With David Letterman," Bieber went into a little more detail about the DNA test, which was done at a lab in New Jersey with what his reps said was a clear chain of custody.

Letterman wanted to know, during the test, was he unconscious, and was any disrobing involved? Bieber appeared to want to know what disrobing actually was -- but, hey, cut him some slack, the kid's only 17 -- and since, as he explained, the test involves only a swab of the inside of the mouth, Dave was looking a little like a crazy old guy.

Justin's Thanksgiving message, when he finally took a break from "Under the Mistletoe" promotion? "thankful for my friends, family, and fans," he wrote on Twitter. "thankful for everyday. thank U."

Justin Bieber gets some sugar on the soggy AMAs red carpet

Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber at the American Music Awards

Adele, honey, you were smart to stay home while the American Music Awards' red carpet dripped along Sunday night in L.A. -- though some who toughed it out got to see Justin Bieber smooch Selena Gomez in public, a moment that looked anything but chilly. The Biebs is, after all, his own weather system.

With part of the AMAs red carpet waterlogged from the Los Angeles rain, shivering pop stars found it a wet and chilly walk into the Nokia Theatre. Many women squished along in high heels, pulling up their dresses so they wouldn't get soaked from below while rain pounded on the big white tent overhead.

Given that the rain was practically a monsoon by Southern Californian standards, spirits were a bit damp at the 2011 installment of the American Music Awards, and it probably didn't help that Adele, the evening's leading nominee, is recuperating from throat surgery and wasn't in attendance.

But the show goes on, and winning a hunk of crystal warms the spirits, regardless of the weather. Karmin, the duo made up of Berklee graduates Amy Heidemann and Nick Noonan, snagged the AMAs' inaugural New Media award. The cute couple stopped to chat for a minute and show off their trophy, speculating on its potential superpowers.

Providing the red carpet with a rare dose of wisdom gleaned from experience, Jon Secada, who's currently working on an autobiography, passed on a few words of advice for up-and-comers.

In a world dominated by dance-pop, James Durbin, from the latest chapter of "American Idol," is staying true to hard rock, devil horns and all. That said, you might be surprised to hear who he was looking forward to seeing at the AMAs:

Justin Bieber: Who's-the-daddy DNA test looms, text casts doubt

Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber's maybe-baby saga continues, even though Mariah Yeater, the woman who claims the singer is the father of her child, withdrew her paternity suit last week.

Yeater has since fielded new legal representation and reportedly wants to settle out of court -- Bieber is still planning to take a DNA test -- even as a compromising text message allegedly sent by the new mom has surfaced.

Yeater still wants the test, according to her new attorney, Jeffrey Leving -- they just want to do it privately, with both sides bound by confidentiality agreements. Sources on the Bieber side told TMZ there had been no settlement discussions, but said there might have been contact regarding DNA test terms. The singer's publicist told E! News that he intends to take the test.

So about that text message, which was obtained by TMZ from the recipient, who said it was sent by Yeater: The sender asks her male friend to "pleeease" erase any messages from her mom in which ex-boyfriend Robbie was named as the father. Then an offer is made to "kick u when we get paid."

Justin Bieber is no baby daddy, paternity suit reportedly dropped

When Justin Bieber finally does have a baby -- well, that kid isn't very likely to get beaten up on the playground, or to lose a game of chicken: Mariah Yeater's paternity suit against the pop star reportedly is no more.

Yeater "quietly" dropped the suit late last week and her lawyers quit the gig, according to TMZ, after they were informed by Bieber lawyer Howard Weitzman that a lawsuit was headed right back at them if (when?) the DNA test came up in the singer's favor.

Good thing the Biebs didn't rush home from Europe to take that paternity test, yes? After saying, "I know that I'm going to be a target, but I'm never going to be a victim," he and his legal team are looking pretty tough.

Yeater had filed a child-support suit against Bieber on Halloween, alleging he'd knocked her up via 30 seconds of post-concert coitus in a backstage bathroom last year when he played Staples Center. It emerged that she'd previously tapped an ex-boyfriend, and possibly a mystery lover named Steve, as the daddy of her 3-month-old boy.

If her allegation had been proved true, she could have been looking at statutory rape charges. She'd claimed they'd done the nasty when she was 19 and Justin was only 16.

"Go BIG or Go HOME," Bieber said a few hours ago on Twitter. Even if it had nothing to do with the dropped case, that sentiment is on point.

Justin Bieber hugs fans as baby saga continues

Justin Bieber will soon take a paternity test in hopes of proving Mariah's Yeater's baby boy is not his — but before that happens, folks who've toured with him are backing up Bieber's assertion that there's no way he and Yeater could have hooked up privately for backstage sex.

Post show, Bieber is more focused on fleeing his sometimes-overzealous "Belieber" fan base.

"The security is so crazy there, you can't get backstage. And even if you got backstage, first of all, he leaves the show as soon as he's offstage, which is pretty cool," Gabe Saporta of Cobra Starship, which opened for the 17-year-old on the My World tour, told MTV News. "He runs offstage, gets in a car and jets, because the whole city turns into chaos."

On the "Today" show last week, Bieber told Matt Lauer that he goes "from the stage right to the car" at the end of each show.

Max George of the Wanted, who toured with Bieber in South America, told a similar tale to the Mirror,

"Justin is like our adopted little brother; that's why I believe all this baby stuff is rubbish," George said. "Any spare time Justin had on tour, he'd joke around — crawling under seats and grabbing girls' ankles. It was hilarious."

This has been a really rough time for the young superstar, 23-year-old George added. "He's had the worst time of his life and handled it so well. Doing the paternity test shows how grown-up he's being about it."
