Hilary Duff engaged to hockey-player honey Mike Comrie

Who found the NHL first, Carrie Underwood or Hilary Duff? The actress and Mike Comrie, her Edmonton Oiler boyfriend, are engaged. The proposal happened last weekend while the two were vacationing in Hawaii, Duff's publicist confirmed in a statement today.  

Hilary, who last year appeared on six episodes of "Gossip Girl" and this year has a couple on tap, had been spotted wearing a ring on Monday in Hawaii. On Wednesday, HollywoodLife confirmed that they weren't engaged -- was Hilary's mom having a little fun at media expense?

And, using our sarcastic voice, we suppose this means that she and Joe Jonas really aren't an item, and that Joe's my-parents-are-her-neighbors tale is for real. Alas, when a dishy story can be made up, pictures often say the wrong 1,000 words.

But back to that first question -- Carrie met fiance Mike Fisher of the Ottawa Senators on March 21, 2008, when he met her backstage after a concert in Ottawa. Hilary began dating her Mike in 2007.

The NHL is currently on a break, incidentally, because of some little sporting event going on in Vancouver.

Wednesday's "American Idol" featured not one but two guest judges keeping Ellen DeGeneres' seat warm.

Neil Patrick Harris took to it like a fish to water, riffing with Ryan Seacrest, "clashing" with Simon Cowell (or so the editors would have you believe) and delivering pointed encouragement and criticism to aspiring contestants.

Joe Jonas was no slouch either, once he got over an initial fear that he would hurt the performers' feelings.

The week in Jonas Brothers: weddings, solo gigs and rebounding

 

In and around celebrity oil spills like Tiger Woods and Courtney Love, the Ministry is offering a courtesy update on those non-cheating, non-custody-losing rascals the Jonas Brothers.

Even though Justin Bieber has broken free from his cast and attacked the hearts of tweens worldwide, or at least at the Citadel in Commerce, this trio still merits some of our easily swayed attention.

Here's what's happening: one is getting married, one is further testing the solo waters (pulling a Timberlake, anyone?), and one may be in a position to entice a new girlfriend, to best his werewolf-romancing ex.

We can only hope that when we grow up, we're as classy as Taylor Swift.

In the wake of recent events, we wondered, what would this dear girl do for her monologue as the host of "Saturday Night Live"? Hmmm. Now we know.

Kanye West, Joe Jonas, Taylor Lautner -- they're all in there. Just maybe not exactly the way we might have expected.
