Oscars: Halle Berry, Women in Film toast female nominees

Halle Berry and Cathy Schulman President of Women In Film Halle Berry brought some girl power to Oscar weekend, hosting a cocktail reception Friday for all the female Academy Awards nominees.

At Soho House, Berry joined forces with Cathy Schulman of Women in Film, nabbing the likes of Melissa Leo, Amy Adams and Hailee Steinfeld -- all of whom are up for gold trophies Sunday.

Though Berry may be embattled in her personal life, she showed no signs of it on this rainy evening, looking lovely in a cocktail dress and bling, rubbing elbows with Kate Walsh, Jackie Weaver of "Animal Kingdom," Brenda Song, Dale Dickey and Sharon Lawrence, to name a few.

Berry spoke to the crowd on the importance of "women holding each other up" and continuing to make creative strides in Hollywood -- the actress herself recently starred in and produced the drama "Frankie and Alice."

Halle Berry can take Nahla to NYC to shoot 'New Year's Eve'

Halle Berry back in New Year's Eve Halle Berry is back in "New Year's Eve," the star-studded Gary Marshall film she dropped out of to prepare for her custody battle with ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry, whom she split from last April.

A Los Angeles judge ruled in Berry's favor Wednesday, allowing her to travel with their 2-year-old daughter, Nahla, so she could continue shooting the "Valentine's Day"-style film. The Oscar-winning actress had been warring with her ex-beau for custody of the child since December, and it was getting ugly.

Since the court ruling, Aubry withdrew his custody petition to be formally recognized as Nahla's father and share physical and legal custody of the child, but he plans to file a paternity action, TMZ reported. He was also spotted Thursday at the L.A. Zoo sharing a moment with his daughter.

Berry, who will now play a nurse in "New Year's Eve," had given up a larger role in the film to Katherine Heigl last month amid her legal woes.

She'll be returning to New York with Nahla in tow to shoot the film co-starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Jessica Biel, Seth Meyers, Zac Efron, Hilary Swank, Ashton Kutcher, Lea Michele and Robert De Niro.

Halle Berry, Gabriel Aubry battle for custody of daughter Nahla

Halle Berry and Gabriel AubreyHalle Berry and ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry are embroiled in a custody battle over their 2-year-old daughter, Nahla -- and it's getting ugly.

The Oscar-winning actress has even dropped filming Gary Marshall's star-studded "New Year's Eve," and was replaced by Katherine Heigl, in order to prepare for a legal smackdown with her 35-year-old fashion model ex-boyfriend.

Both camps have been slinging accusations at each other, with Berry, 44, saying that Aubry angrily "traumatized" Nahla when she was being fussy, and that Aubry called Berry the N-word.

Aubry and Berry split last April, but things have been amiss regarding Nahla their daughter since December, when Aubry filed court papers to be formally recognized as Nahla's father and share physical and legal custody.

"Halle has serious concerns for her daughter's well-being while in the care of her father for any extended period of time and is prepared to take all necessary steps to protect her," her rep told People.

But another twist in the convoluted custody clash is RadarOnline obtaining a livid e-mail from Berry railing against Aubry:

"You were only good for one thing.... Thanks for the donation," she wrote, according to the website.

After denying the allegation that Aubry ever abused or slurred Berry or their daughter, Aubry's friend said that "all Gabriel wanted was to ensure his legal entitled access to his daughter and to not have to be at the mercy of Halle's moods as to when and how he could see Nahla."

Reminiscent of the Mel Gibson-Oksana Grigorieva custody brawl? Maybe it's a good thing family law battles take place behind closed doors.

Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez step out as a couple

Looks like Halle Berry is no longer single, in the official sense, as she stepped out on Saturday evening with new beau Olivier Martinez

Attending the Carousel of Hope Ball in Beverly Hills, Berry looked better than ever in a red YSL dress while Martinez spiffed up in a black tux. The movie star mom has been quietly seeing Martinez for Carousel of Hope about a month, since meeting him on the set of their film upcoming "Dark Tide.'"

The Ministry spotted the pair roaming the lobby of the Beverly Hilton Hotel together, while Us Weekly reports the two were inseparable all evening, with Martinez often cooing into Berry's ear.

Berry split from model Gabriel Aubry, father of their daughter, Nahla, in April. The actress  recently spoke about the breakup, saying the pair are committed to raising their daughter in harmony. "We were meant to bring this amazing little person into the world. And I think that’s why we came together.... We are a family until we are not here anymore,” she said.

Martinez dated Australian singer Kylie Minogue for five years before splitting in 2007.

Jennifer Lopez Marc Anthony

Honorees Quincy Jones and Maria Shriver weren't the only unlikely pair at the 32nd Carousel of Hope event in Beverly Hills on Saturday evening. Stars of film, TV and music, who tend to party at their own industry events, mingled in the biggest A-list bash in town that throws them all together.

Which was just fine and dandy with Kathy Griffin.

Carousel-of-hope"I've got to tell you who I came with," she told the Ministry. "I came with Jane Fonda. Isn't that a great unlikely situation? I love it. I was ready to come by myself because I'm single, but then I said, 'I'm too insecure.' And Jane Fonda said, 'You can drive with us.' So she and her boyfriend, Richard [Perry, a music producer], drove me here."

Just then, event emcee Jay Leno walked by and stage whispered in Griffin's ear: "Jane Fonda is looking for you."

"Will you stop it?" she barked at him with delight. She turned to Fonda, who was wearing a copper-colored sequin gown. "Tell her what Anne Bancroft and Shirley MacLaine said, to not be afraid to come by yourself. That way you can leave when you want, and you never know who you're going to meet."

Mega stars turn out for Spike TV's Scream Awards 2010 [Updated]

Though merely misty at Los Angeles' Greek Theatre on Saturday, it was raining celebs for Spike TV's Scream Awards -- an annual celebration of creepy, cringe-worthy and fanboy fare.

Scream-awards-gallery-promo Backed by a massive outdoor set inspired by Christopher Nolan's "Inception," tons of bold-face names came to present and claim trophies as well as to unveil new footage from upcoming films.

In a tiny gold cocktail dress, Halle Berry opened the show by introducing Nolan, who scooped up several statuettes for his Leonardo DiCaprio-led flick.

Fan legends Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox appeared (yes, the DeLorean was there too) to salute the "Back to the Future" franchise, which is marking its 25th anniversary with a DVD release and some interesting footage of Eric Stoltz as the original Marty McFly.

Halle Berry talks about motherhood and Gabriel Aubry [Updated]

Halle-berry-september-voge For the first time in three years, Halle Berry is opening up about life as a mother -- and a single one at that, following her split from daughter Nahla's father, model Gabriel Aubry.

"It’s just that you realize you are not meant to go the distance with everybody,” Berry says in the September issue of Vogue. "We were meant to bring this amazing little person into the world. And I think that’s why we came together.... We are a family until we are not here anymore.”

Berry maintains that she and Aubry are still close friends and co-parent in harmony -- not that you'd know it before now.

"I was burned out with having other people tell the story about me that they wanted to tell," she said of her media blackout. "I told my publicist, 'I'm not going to talk anymore. I'm just going to live my life and be who I am.'"

Here's to broken silence and fall fashion issues.

Halle Berry, fashion-model boyfriend Gabriel Aubry split

Aubrey-berry Actress Halle Berry and model Gabriel Aubry have gone their separate ways and are still working on a long-term custody agreement regarding their 2-year-old daughter, Nahla.

Radar reported and TMZ confirmed the apparently amicable split, with TMZ saying the current custody deal is short-term only and that no property issues have been settled in writing.

The couple, who had not married, met on a Versace shoot in 2005 and went public in early 2006. The "X-Men" actress' two marriages -- the first to ballplayer David Justice and second to musician Eric Benet -- ended in divorce.
