Jay-Z, Coldplay host an army of celebs for New Year's Eve concert

Jay Z at Marquee at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas

Jay-Z and Coldplay seem to have a few fans between them. You know, like millions of civilians and a few hundred celebrity devotees -- quite a few of whom headed to Las Vegas for a New Year's Eve concert that marked the opening of the Cosmopolitan hotel and casino.

Rihanna, Jay Z and Kanye West at Marquee at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas Chris Martin, Coldplay's frontman, was cheered on by wife Gwyneth Paltrow at the performance while Jay-Z's bride, Beyoncé, got hands-on, joining Martin for a rendition of her hit "Halo."

Also on hand at the hotel's event center were John Mayer, who played guitar on Jay-Z's hit "99 Problems," and Kanye West, who offered the crowd "Homecoming." Young mogul Jay-Z even got some vocals from Beyoncé on "Forever Young."

The Ministry pities any single celeb in attendance, as the bash was all about couples -- like Alex Rodriguez and Cameron Diaz, fresh from their holiday in Mexico; Mark Wahlberg and Rhea Durham; Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony; Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan; Ashley Olsen and Justin Bartha; and Ellen Pomepo and Chris Ivery.

Jimmy Iovine, Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez at Marquee Nightclub at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas After the big show, VIPs headed to the library at the hotel's resident nightclub, Marquee, where music honcho Jimmy Iovine rubbed elbows with Anthony and Lopez, singer Rihanna, Blake Lively, Kelly Slater, Jeremy Piven, Forest and Keisha Whitaker, Dylan Lauren, Oprah's BFF Gayle King and Diddy.

Sound like a starry-enough New Year's Eve? Tell us your thoughts in the comments section below.

Gwyneth Paltrow on dating Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck -- and depression

Gwyneth Paltrow Gwyneth Paltrow is currently one half of a star couple, long married to Coldplay singer Chris Martin, but hubby Chris wasn't her first celebrity relationship.

Paltrow, 38, was reminded of stints with Brad Pitt, 1994-1997, and Ben Affleck, 1997-2000, in an E! Entertainment special about her rise to fame and lifestyle guru-ship.

"It was strange to be part of a public couple," she said on the show, which premiered Wednesday. Though Paltrow rarely speaks about Pitt, she's historically been sentimental about Affleck.

Appearing on Bravo's "Inside The Actor's Studio," years back, she labeled Affleck "one of those guys with so much potential."

Paltrow, a mother of two, also opened up about her post-partum depression.

"You don't want anybody to know that you're depressed or crying all the time," she said. "There's this shame that we bring to it, and it's incredibly debilitating and scary and you just don't feel like yourself."

Gwyneth Paltrow, Garrett Hedlund bring 'Country Strong' out West

Garrett Hedlund, Gwyneth Paltrow, Tim McGraw and Leighton Meester at a "Country Strong" screening in Beverly Hills

The cast of "Country Strong" brought a little twang to the Los Angeles area on Tuesday evening, hosting a special screening for the Nashville drama starring Gwyneth Paltrow.

Country-strong-gallery The actress cum lifestyle blogger was joined by costars Tim McGraw, Garrett Hedlund and Leighton Meester.

McGraw's wife, Faith Hill, came to support, as did producer Tobey Maguire and his partner Jenno Topping, for a brief but intense red carpet call followed by a showing of the film at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Beverly Hills. With Paltrow in ghostly white, Meester was the floral-explosion opposite in a Dior mini. The "Gossip Girl" star plays a rising country star with plenty of ambition but some genuine disappointment that her mentor (played by Paltrow) feels threatened by her.

"That's never happened to be in real life," Meester told the Ministry. "I've been lucky that everyone I admire, including Gwyneth, has been amazing and, really, just helpful."

Clean-shaven and rocking Calvin Klein, Hedlund looked quite different from the bearded, plaid-clad crooner he plays in the movie. The Minnesota native, whose "Tron: Legacy" comes out this week, went through Nashville boot camp prior to cameras rolling on the country flick.

"I really can't describe the gift that [director] Shana Feste gave me," he said. "I can go home any time and pick up the guitar."

"Country Strong" opens in limited release Dec. 22 and goes wide Jan. 7.

Gwyneth Paltrow returning for more 'Glee'

Here's an early Christmas present for "Glee" fans -- Gwyneth Paltrow is returning to the series as substitute teacher Holly Holiday.

Triple-threat Paltrow confirmed over the weekend that she's coming back to Ryan Murphy's show in the new year, after a well-received first run in November.

"I'm going to do one more," Paltrow told "Access Hollywood" over the weekend, "I signed up for two … so I'm excited!"

For her first turn, Paltrow got a crack at Cee-Lo's "Forget You" (check out a clip above), a Broadway number with Lea Michele and a mashup of the classic 'Singin' in the Rain" and Rihanna's "Umbrella."

"Just the incredible challenge of getting off a plane, going to record four songs immediately in one afternoon, and then having to learn all the dance numbers in like 20 minutes," she said. "I love Ryan Murphy, he's an old friend of mine and I was just in awe of everybody's talent."

Gwyneth Paltrow consulted Robert Downey Jr. on playing an addict in 'Country Strong'

When Gwyneth Paltrow set about playing not-quite-recovered addict Kelly Canter in "Country Strong," she had some pretty A-list help in getting into character -- Robert Downey Jr.

Stopping by "Chelsea Lately" to promote the flick, Paltrow confessed she couldn't easily relate to the character's struggle.

"It was actually really challenging ... I didn't understand how you could do something so crazy one night and wreck lives in your wake, then wake up and expect to be back to normal," she said.

She then called on her "Iron Man" costar Downey for his own experiences.

"I actually e-mailed [Robert], who has been sober for a long time. He wrote me the most amazing e-mail and helped me understand it," Paltrow said.

Check out the her full interview above.

Gwyneth Paltrow is 'Country Strong' at the CMAs

If Gwyneth Paltrow actually wants to make a crossover to country music, she got Nashville's highest blessing Wednesday evening by performing at the CMAs.

Belting out "Country Strong," the title track from her new drama costarring Leighton Meester and Tim McGraw, Paltrow got vocal backing from country legend Vince Gill and the approval of a fellow A-lister in the audience: Nicole Kidman.

Next to husband Keith Urban, the "Rabbit Hole" star clapped enthusiastically for guitar-strumming Paltrow.

Check out the clip above and tell us in comments if you think Paltrow's offering is strong enough for country music stardom.

Following the premiere screening, McGraw and real-life bride Hill joined director Shana Feste for an after-party at the Union Station Hotel, in the company of singer Dierks Bentley and actors James Marsden, Jonathon Schaech and Tobey Maguire, also one of the film's producers. Gwyneth Paltrow will sing Cee-Lo's 'Forget You' for 'Glee'

If Goop ever issues a newsletter on surviving a breakup, Gwyneth Paltrow will have her leg work already covered, via "Glee."

Gwyneth-paltrow-cee-lo The actress and blogger, who will grace Ryan Murphy's high school musical phenomenon come 2011, will be belting one of this year's biggest pop culture hits: Cee-Lo Green's "Forget You."

Paltrow's cover was revealed with the current season's soundtrack listing. Please note that "Forget You" is the sanitized radio edit of the song -- the original employs a more aggressive term used to tell people where to go and how to get there. It documents the woes of a humble man left by a materialistic she-devil.

As the Ministry told you in September, Paltrow will visit the fictional McKinley High as a substitute teacher with eyes for Matthew Morrison's Will Schuester.

Jodie Foster, Gwyneth Paltrow and more are Elle's Women in Hollywood for 2010

Elle-magazine-winners

With honoring the fairer sex all the rage lately, Elle magazine had quite a stable of talent at its annual Women in Hollywood honors on Monday -- saluting Jodie Foster, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Hudson, Hilary Swank, Sofia Coppola, Diane KrugerKerry Washington, Diane Keaton and newcomer Jessica Chastain

Elle-gallery-refer  The femmes and their admirers gathered at Beverly Hills' Four Seasons Hotel for garden cocktails and dinner, with producer and director Adam Shankman, who served as master of ceremonies, not hiding his resentment in not being included on the list.

"I've shopped with you, tweeted you, and I've had sex with most of your boyfriends," he cracked, wondering aloud what it takes to make the cut.

Elle Editor in Chief Robbie Myers suggested, in her opening remarks, that the Women in Hollywood portfolio was about being dynamic and successful in a "free society" -- plus really famous actresses got to meet other really famous actresses.
