Kim Kardashian: The annulment, plastic surgeon and Las Vegas

Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian's feud with Jon Hamm is nothing compared with what she’s been going through this week. For instance, seeking an annulment from ex Kris Humphries and possibly suing a plastic surgeon over the use of her image on a billboard in Mexico.

However, her week ended on a high note. Kim headed to Las Vegas this weekend to help her brother Rob celebrate his 25th birthday.

When it comes to the annulment, it looks like the couple have come to a standstill, with each side  demanding that the other admit to fraud, reports TMZ. Kim insists that the pair agreed to reside in Hollywood, until Kris later pushed for her to move to Minnesota. However, the basketball star claims she never intended for them to stay together. It looks like money could be an issue too. Humphries reportedly wants $7 million, but Kim isn’t giving in.

And then there’s the plastic surgeon in Mexico who used her image without her blessing. It looks like the man behind the bikini-clad billboard in Mexicali, Dr. Victor Ramirez, could get sued for making Kim the unwilling poster child for his business, reports TMZ.

The site called Ramirez and asked if he had permission to use the image. He responded, "Obviously I did not speak to Kim Kardashian. I do not have her number." He then said he would contact the police and hung up.

Despite everything, Kim put it aside and headed to Sin City to party with her brother Rob on Friday, reports Eonline.com. The night out included dinner at Stack Restaurant & Bar with mom Kris and little sisters Kendall and Kylie, followed by a stop at 1 OAK nightclub (sans the younger girls).

Showing some sisterly love, Kim tweeted photos and wrote on her blog, “Happy birthday to my little brother Rob!!! I love you more than you know! You’ve grown into an amazing young man and I’m proud to call you my brother. I hope your 25th year is the best yet!! Love you so much! Xo”

Duchess Kate Middleton passes out shamrocks to Irish Guards

Kate Middleton
Kate Middleton, now known as the Duchess of Cambridge, paid a special St. Patrick’s Day visit to the Irish Guards on Saturday. Continuing a tradition started by Prince William’s great-grandmother, the Queen Mother, Kate passed out shamrock sprigs to the guard’s 1st Battalion.

The duchess, wasn't about to get pinched for not wearing green; she wore a green Emilia Wickstead coat dress for her first solo military engagement. Accessories included brown suede heels, a hat by Lock and Co. and one very special addition: a gold shamrock brooch owned by the guard and previously worn by the Queen Mother.

The responsibility of the annual visit, which takes place in Aldershot, Hampshire, was passed along to Princess Anne 10 years ago after the Queen Mother’s passing, reports USA Today, and now the honor goes to Kate.

The guards weren’t the only ones to get a shamrock from the princess. Mascot Conmael, a wolfhound, was also front and center at the festivities.

Jaycee Dugard steps out publicly for DVF Awards

Oprahjayceestory

This post has been corrected, as detailed below.

Jaycee Dugard stepped out publicly on Friday for the first time since her rescue in 2009. The kidnapping survivor was in good company at the United Nations in New York for Diane von Furstenberg’s DVF Awards ceremony, where she met fellow honorees like Oprah Winfrey.

Dugard received the Inspiration Award for her JAYC Foundation, which aims to help families “recovering from abduction and the aftermath of other traumatic experiences.”

People reports that, taking the microphone, Dugard told the crowd: "My name is Jaycee Dugard and I want to say that, because for a long time I wasn't able to say my name and so it feels good. I am truly honored to be here tonight with these amazing women who have done and been through so much more than me."

Despite her horrific experience, she said it was her mother’s hope that helped her go on. "And I did live. I have two beautiful daughters who I love with all my heart,” she said.

Dugard, 31, made headlines first when she was abducted at age 11 as she walked to bus stop from her  South Lake Tahoe-area home, and again 18 years later when she was rescued with her daughters from her kidnappers, Phillip and Nancy Garrido.

However, her “hope is to be remembered for what I do,” not the kidnapping that stole so many years of her life.

Winfrey, who received the lifetime achievement award, showered Dugard with praise, saying: "I am so proud of you. You are using your courage and your strength and your power to show the world that you care."

Winfrey got her share of the spotlight too. The Washington Post reports that Oprah shared a hug with friend Von Furstenberg, who told the crowd: “She is the most formidable person I have ever met in my life. What is extraordinary about Oprah is that she has done so much and yet she is still a little girl. She is still very pure and you can make her cry and laugh so quickly.”

Von Furstenberg and the Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation created the DVF Awards in 2010 to “recognize and support women who are using their resources, commitment and visibility to transform the lives of other women.”

Each of the five honorees -- Dugard, Winfrey, Layli Miller-Muro of the Tahirih Justice Center, Panmela Castro of Rede Nami in Brazil and Chouchou Namegabe of the South Kivu’s Assn. of Women Journalists in the Democratic Republic of Congo -- received $50,000 for their cause.

[For the record, 7:25 p.m. March 10: An earlier version of this post incorrectly said the awards took place on Saturday.]

Michael Madsen arrest: Did son's pot smoking lead to fight?

Michael Madsen

Michael Madsen landed behind bars Friday night after a fight with his teenage son. The actor was arrested and now faces felony charges for suspicion of cruelty to a child.

The actor’s attorney, Perry Wander, is already speaking out on his behalf, saying that the incident started when Madsen caught his son with marijuana.

"[Michael] found his son smoking pot and they got in an argument when he tried to take it away,” Wander tells TMZ. “It's a family matter and Michael asks that his family's privacy be respected.”

Malibu law enforcement and later special victims detectives responded to the family dispute call Friday afternoon to investigate suspicion of physical abuse, Deputy Peter Gomez tells our sister blog LA Now. Madsen appeared to be under the influence of alcohol when deputies arrived at 2:15 p.m.

Madsen, who was being held at Lost Hills station on $100,000 bail, told TMZ the ordeal was a “big misunderstanding.”

The 54-year-old brother of actress Virginia Madsen is known for his roles in Quentin Tarantino’s “Reservoir Dogs” and “Kill Bill Vol. 2.”

Scarlett Johansson lands role as ‘Psycho’s’ Janet Leigh

Scarlett Johansson and Janet Leigh
Scarlett Johansson has some screaming to do. The blond beauty is stepping into the shoes of Janet Leigh in the new movie "Making of Psycho.”

The film, directed by Sacha Gervasi, centers on director Alfred Hitchcock (Anthony Hopkins) and his ups and downs behind the camera of the 1960 horror flick about a woman on the run after stealing thousands from a client.

The iconic movie is best known for the shower scene in which Leigh, playing Marion Crane, is stabbed to death at the Bates Motel. James D’Arcy will play Leigh’s co-star, Anthony Perkins, and Helen Mirren is set to portray Hitchcock’s wife Alma, according to Variety.

Sources at the trade paper are already drawing parallels between Scarlett’s role as Leigh and Michelle Williams’ Oscar-nominated turn as Marilyn Monroe in “My Week With Marilyn.”

Before "Making of Psycho" hits theaters in 2013, look for Johansson in the new "Avengers" movie opening in May. See the actress reprise her "Iron Man 2" role as Black Widow in the new trailer, released earlier this week.

Lindsay Lohan's return to 'Saturday Night Live' brings memories

Lindsay Lohan and Kenan Thompson

Lindsay Lohan is set to take the "Saturday Night Live" stage tonight for the fourth time, and fans can’t wait to see the troubled starlet poke fun at her recent troubles.

Shoplifting, working at the morgue and serving house arrest should make great fodder for the "SNL" writers, but will the skits live up to some of Lindsay’s past appearances?

Who can forget her spoof commercial for coin slot (a.k.a. butt crack) moisturizer? Lindsay and Kristin Wiig explained enthusiastically that low-cut fashion can expose that, ahem, area to sun and wind, but with a little lotion, you can "kick coin-slot dryness to the curb."

How about her turn as Hermione Granger from the "Harry Potter" franchise? When Hermione comes back from summer break looking a bit top heavy, Harry and Ron can’t seem to focus on anything but her chest:

And what about the time Tina Fey and Amy Poehler offered to mentor her on "Weekend Update"? At first it’s all about Lindsay’s eating habits and career, until she manages to turn the tables.

For a taste of the "Lindsanity" in store for tonight, check out her promos below, with Kenan Thompson.

Beyonce and Jay-Z share adorable photos of Blue Ivy Carter

Beyonce and Blue Ivy
Beyonce and Jay-Z surprised fans Friday with a sneak peek at baby daughter Blue Ivy Carter. The five photos include a glowing Beyonce holding her 1-month-old girl and beaming dad Jay-Z cradling Blue in his arms.

But the biggest surprise was the way the couple chose to reveal their daughter to the world: Tumblr. Some experts thought that Beyonce and Jay-Z would make millions off the baby photos just like Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, who took home $4 million for pictures of Shiloh. Instead, it appears they decided to post the photos for free.

In harmony with their decision to share Blue Ivy with the world on their own terms, this handwritten note appears on the site, “We welcome you to share in our joy. Thank you for respecting our privacy during this Beautiful time in our lives. The Carter Family.”

Blue Ivy's aunt Solange Knowles couldn't wait to share the pictures with her friends on Twitter, posting, "THE PROUDEST AUNT IN THE WORLD....OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL GIRL IN THE WORLD! #HelloBlue :)))"

Jason Segel picks up Harvard’s Hasty Pudding pot

Jasonsegel
Jason Segel spent Friday night dressing up in Muppet drag, plugging his family’s business and picking up a very special pudding pot -– all as Harvard’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals man of the year.

Following in the footsteps of stars like Jay Leno and Justin Timberlake, Segel took home the group’s top honor for his work as an actor, writer and producer. He’s best known for his roles in “The Muppets” (hence the Miss Piggy wig and bra), “How I Met Your Mother,” “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “Freaks and Geeks.”

“This is a very prestigious thing and it is very fun, but half the reason it meant anything to me is that my whole family lives here,” he told the Boston Channel, and he wasn’t kidding around.

With his relatives seated in the front row, Segel gave a huge plug to his family’s business, a men’s clothing store his grandfather opened 40 years ago called Mr. Sid.

“Please check out Mr. Sid,” he told the crowd. “It is the finest suits, sweaters … really anything you need.” No word on whether Mr. Sid supplied the actor’s dapper blue-velvet suit.

Woman of the year Claire Danes picked up her Hasty Pudding pot on Jan. 26.

Etta James' funeral: Christina Aguilera, Stevie Wonder say goodbye

La-et-etta-james01_lyj7y7pd

Etta James’ funeral marked a final goodbye for family, fans and famous friends as they gathered Saturday in Los Angeles to bid farewell to the singer.

Christina Aguilera helped give the four-time Grammy winner a fitting sendoff by singing James’ signature song, “At Last,” for the hundreds of mourners at Greater Bethany Community Church in Gardena, Calif. Stevie Wonder joined up with the church choir to pay his respects to James, who passed away Jan. 20 at 73, and Al Sharpton was there to give the eulogy.

The funeral follows a public viewing on Friday where fans gathered at Inglewood Cemetery Mortuary to reminisce about the legendary singer.

PHOTOS: Etta James' funeral

"Whenever I hear that song, I freeze," Donald Hicks, 67, of Inglewood told the L.A. Times about James' megahit "At Last." "I even pull over when it comes on."

News spread in December that the rhythm and blues singer was suffering from terminal chronic leukemia. The bleak diagnosis followed past health issues like sepsis, kidney failure, gastric bypass surgery, dementia and drug addiction. In addition, her children were involved in court proceedings to take control of James’ estate away from her husband, Artis Mills, but lost.

An inspiration to generations of musicians, she was “equally at home singing unadulterated blues, searing R&B and sophisticated jazz," says Times pop music writer Randy Lewis.

Mena Suvari files for divorce from Simone Sestito

Mena Suvari in December 2011

Mena Suvari filed for divorce Friday after just 18 months of marriage to concert promoter Simone Sestito.

The papers, filed in L.A. County Superior Court, cite “irreconcilable differences,” indicate the pair separated in November 2011 and request no alimony payments for Sestito, TMZ reports.

The “American Horror” actress also wants her old name back -- that would be Suvari, rather than Suvari-Sestito.

PHOTOS: Short celebrity marriages

Suvari, 32, and Sestito, 26, wed at a private church in Vatican City in 2010 after a romance that started at the 2007 Toronto Film Festival. This will be Suvari's second divorce. The "American Beauty" and her first husband, cinematographer Robert Brinkmann, ended their five-year marriage in 2005.

The couple follow in the footsteps of other high profile couples such as Katy Perry and Russell Brand, who split recently after less than two years together.
