Dakota Fanning graduates from high school

Dakota Fanning graduated from high school on Monday in Los Angeles, reminding the world that despite her decade-plus of work on projects including "War of the Worlds," "The Runaways" and "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" and "Breaking Dawn," she's still only 17 years old.

Fanning and her fellow graduating Campbell Hall classmates donned bright blue caps and gowns -- the tassels were gold -- for commencement ceremonies held Monday at Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown L.A. Fanning's family was on hand, according to People, including 13-year-old sister Elle Fanning, who'll be seen soon in the film "Super 8."

During the "normal high school experience" she enjoyed from ninth grade through 12th at Campbell Hall, Dakota was named to the homecoming court two years in a row and made the varsity cheerleading squad.

Want to walk in Fanning's footsteps? Campbell Hall is a private Episcopalian school in North Hollywood serving grades K through 12. Secondary-school tuition for the coming term is just north of $28,000 for the year, according to the school's website.

Betty White, Jeff Bridges scoop up Britannia Awards

Dakota Fanning at the BAFTA Brittania Awards Brits know true royalty when they see it, so naturally they're just as wild about Betty White as we are. Before she received a standing -- and cheering -- ovation at Thursday's Britannia Awards, host Stephen Fry declared her "one of my absolutely all-time favorite people on the surface of this planet."

White added the latest bauble to her ever-growing stash of trophies at the top awards event of the British Academy of Television and Film/Los Angeles, where honorees Jeff Bridges, Michael Sheen, "Inception" director Christopher Nolan and the directing and producing brothers Scott -- Ridley and Tony -- also took home the gold from the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel.

White received the Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for Excellence in Comedy from fellow "it" girl Jane Lynch and "Hot in Cleveland" costars Wendie Malick, Jane Leeves and Valerie Bertinelli. She chalked up her winning streak to passion. "I wouldn't be the lucky old broad that I am -- I mean 'old' in a facetious way -- if I weren't so passionate about show business, about animals," she said, looking sparkly in a red jacket and black trousers.

The parade of presenters also included Dakota Fanning, Rosario Dawson, Marion Cotillard, Jerry Bruckheimer, Cillian Murphy and the suddenly ubiquitous Carey Mulligan. (Click here to launch a gallery of pictures from the event.)

PREACH IT! Demi Lovato frightens and appalls us with her bizarre career path

Some celebrity stories are so odd and unnerving that they deserve to be singled out. Monday’s dose of the unreal comes courtesy of Demi Lovato. Until now, Lovato, 18, was known mostly as the star of the Disney series "Sonny With a Chance", as well as the occasional champion of the bullied.

Now we can add clinically insane to that descriptor. Because, get this: Lovato has announced her chosen career path. And it involves neither a sex tape nor a faux rebellion aided by Nicholas Sparks.

Let’s repeat that: Lovato does not want to model her choices after Kim Kardashian, hero to Montana Fishburne and millions of other girls hoping to elevate their careers via not-so-private liaisons. Nor does Lovato wish to go the Miley Cyrus route, announcing a series of non-controversial projects and then praying that the planet agrees that it’s all so totally edgy, OMG.

No, Lovato says she wants to take her cues from ... Dakota Fanning.

Yep, the kid who wears a cape and braids in the "Twilight" franchise, and who's on her varsity ...

Bryce Dallas Howard reveals Robert Pattinson crush

Bryce Dallas Howard has the face of an angel and an enviable artistic pedigree, but even she submits to the great human denominator -- an obsession with "The Twilight Saga" and star Robert Pattinson.

Bryce howard rpattz Howard was a Twi-hard, she confessed to Vanity Fair, long before she would replace fellow redhead Rachelle Lefevre as vampire Victoria in the franchise's third film, "Eclipse."

“I had seen 'Twilight' innumerable times. After I saw it for the fourth time, one of my best guy friends, for my birthday, made me Post-it notes with [Pattinson’s] face that said, ‘Live Dangerously,’ because I was so obsessed," she told the magazine.

"My husband actually said to me, ‘Do I need to be worried about this?' " she said of her partner, fellow thesp Seth Gabel.

One cast member not concerned about the hot young things populating the set is Elizabeth Reaser, the matriarch of the Cullen vampire clan.

"It has no effect on me. They’re all gorgeous and lovely boys.… You just want someone interesting and weird at a certain point. I have a massive crush on Larry David,” she said.

We wonder what his custom Post-it notes would say. Check out a full behind-the-scenes clip from Vanity Fair's women-of-"Eclipse" shoot above.

'The Runaways' gets its New York red carpet premiere

Kstew dakotaKristen Stewart, Dakota Fanning, Joan Jett and the gang hit "The Runaways" red carpet again -- this time in New York, with a few of them in little dresses even cuter than their Hollywood premiere fashions.

Also on the red carpet: Julianne Moore, whose new film "Chloe" premiered Monday; Chloe Sevigny, whose "Barry Munday" just screened at the SXSW festival; and Kirstie Alley, who is in New York doing publicity for her new show, "Kirstie Alley's Big Life," and was taken aback just a bit by Scientology questions during her "Today" interview Tuesday.

Five days of 'The Runaways'! Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning -- anatomy of a kiss

Kiss pic How to close my five-day coverage of Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning's "The Runaways"? With a kiss, of course.

Since the film's world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, there's been lots of talk about the actresses kissing in character as Joan Jett and Cherie Currie, and the trippy montage of skin and sexuality that follows.

"It's pretty subjective," Stewart said of the girl-on-girl action. "It was never written in the script, like, 'hardcore sex scene.'"

What was it like to film the scene, and what do the real-life ladies think of the results? I got the dish straight from Stewart, Fanning, Jett, Currie and director Floria Sigismondi.

Sigismondi told me the actresses were "such pros" and understood their physical intimacy was crucial for the film. In fact, the director would've gotten away with more if Fanning were older.

"There were a lot of things I couldn't do that I wanted to do," she said.

Such as? "If I used an 18-year-old, I could've maybe had her topless ... just to give it a little more reality."

"The challenging part was all the rules," the director admitted -- meticulous details such as, "One person can be on the bed; the other person can't." An on-set teacher laid down the guidelines for how Fanning, who turns 16 next month, could be depicted in romantic scenes.

Park City parties with Sundance stars Ben Affleck, Bradley Cooper, Katie Holmes and more

Ryan Gosling Michelle Williams While the Sundance Film Festival chugs along in snowy Park City, Utah, selling flicks and shilling swag, the Ministry has a comprehensive guide to what star-packed parties have been held.

Prepare for a schmooze-fest starring Ben Affleck, Renee Zellweger, Bradley Cooper, Katie Holmes, Kristen Stewart, pro-boarder Shaun White and even (shudder) Jon Gosselin!

With movies the obvious centerpiece, many a glass was toasted to A-list attendance at private parties throughout the village. At Bing's Supper Club at the House of Hype, star Justin Bartha celebrated his performance in "Holy Rollers" with Gerard Butler, Cooper, Harvey Weinstein and Adrien Brody.

While chef Philippe Chow cooked up goodies at Bing, the Village at the Yard and DirecTV threw a soiree for Affleck's effort in "Company Men."

Jennifer Garner's main squeeze chatted up co-star Tommy Lee Jones all night, while Ron Livingston and Rosemary Dewitt got cozy in a corner, sipping Stella Artois and talking with friends. Paris Hilton also dropped in.

Five days of 'The Runaways'! A fake tattoo foreshadowed Dakota Fanning's starring role as Cherie Currie

Dakotafanningcheriecurrie Sometimes it's the little signs that point toward big roles -- like Dakota Fanning playing singer Cherie Currie in "The Runaways."

And in this case, that little sign was a little bit of body art.

Currie, chatting at the Sundance Film Festival, told me about when she and Fanning met over lunch to discuss re-creating her persona on the big screen. Fanning revealed to Currie that her journey to their table had started with a classmate who was holding some temporary tattoos.

Dakota's friend had brought the arty stickies to school, Currie said. "She picked a single cherry and put it on her arm."

When Fanning got home that day, her mother was holding the script for "The Runaways."

As Currie tells it, Joy Fanning said, "Dakota you’re not going to believe this. I’m holding this script and you would play a girl who has a cherry tattoo."
