Justin Bieber gets some sugar on the soggy AMAs red carpet

Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber at the American Music Awards

Adele, honey, you were smart to stay home while the American Music Awards' red carpet dripped along Sunday night in L.A. -- though some who toughed it out got to see Justin Bieber smooch Selena Gomez in public, a moment that looked anything but chilly. The Biebs is, after all, his own weather system.

With part of the AMAs red carpet waterlogged from the Los Angeles rain, shivering pop stars found it a wet and chilly walk into the Nokia Theatre. Many women squished along in high heels, pulling up their dresses so they wouldn't get soaked from below while rain pounded on the big white tent overhead.

Given that the rain was practically a monsoon by Southern Californian standards, spirits were a bit damp at the 2011 installment of the American Music Awards, and it probably didn't help that Adele, the evening's leading nominee, is recuperating from throat surgery and wasn't in attendance.

But the show goes on, and winning a hunk of crystal warms the spirits, regardless of the weather. Karmin, the duo made up of Berklee graduates Amy Heidemann and Nick Noonan, snagged the AMAs' inaugural New Media award. The cute couple stopped to chat for a minute and show off their trophy, speculating on its potential superpowers.

Providing the red carpet with a rare dose of wisdom gleaned from experience, Jon Secada, who's currently working on an autobiography, passed on a few words of advice for up-and-comers.

In a world dominated by dance-pop, James Durbin, from the latest chapter of "American Idol," is staying true to hard rock, devil horns and all. That said, you might be surprised to hear who he was looking forward to seeing at the AMAs:

Emma Watson's first crush: 'Harry Potter' costar Tom Felton

Emma Watson reveals 'Harry Potter' crush is Tom Felton

Emma Watson had an on-set "Harry Potter" crush — and it wasn't for the guy who played Ron Weasley.

The "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2" star revealed that while filming the first two "Harry Potter" films, her 11-year-old self had a "huge crush" on costar Tom Felton, who plays bleached-blond Slytherin nemesis Draco Malfoy.

"He was my first crush," the actress tells Seventeen magazine. "He totally knows. We talked about it — we still laugh about it. We are really good friends now, and that's cool."

Felton now has a long-term girlfriend, Jade Olivia, whom he met three years ago when she was a stunt coordinator's assistant on the "Harry Potter" set. But our Muggle minds are still whirring with the possibilities in a Draco Malfoy-Hermione Granger romance. Could the mudblood-hating pureblood actually have gone for the frizzy-haired, know-it-all witch? Sounds like the makings of some incredibly fun fan fiction, and members of the Draco-Hermione camp must be ecstatic right about now.

Emma Watson on Seventeen magazine's August cover But Watson doesn't count her feelings for Felton as a "celebrity crush."

"I've never understood having crushes on people who you don't know in real life. I only crush on people I meet," she said. "I mean, I can appreciate that someone is good-looking, obviously, but I don't intend to fantasize about people I don't know!"

The Brown University dropout also dished about her alternative prospects had she not become the brainy best friend of a certain lightning-scarred wizard.

"If I hadn't done 'Harry Potter,' I would have gone and done years of art. I really do love it, and I'd love to write," she said.

At 21, Watson is currently brushing up on her American accent for the film "Perks of Being a Wallflower," trying her best to not sound like Paris Hilton. Listen to her Yankee voice here.

'The Vampire Diaries' ' Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder vacation together (with moms)

Are Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder dating? "The Vampire Diaries" stars Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder are warming up to each other in the City of Lights. The two were caught publicly displaying affection this week while vacationing in Paris.

Dobrev, 22, and Somerhalder, 32, went to the Saint Germain des Pres with their mothers and later dined at a local bar together, US Weekly reported. See the photos here.

"Just go up, first day in Paris with no work must go play a bit,its healthy:) Thank you for the warm welcome everyone here, its really amazing," Somerhalder tweeted during the trip.

"The Vampire Diaries" stars were rumored to have been dating for a while, but neither pretty party has 'fessed up to a relationship. Déjà vu RPattz and KStew? Hmm.

The pair partied at Coachella in April and attended the White House Correspondents' dinner earlier this month before hitting the CW upfronts in New York last week.

It's only natural to think that Dobrev would be dating one of her costars. She plays the dual role of Elena/Katherine, which offers up ample screen time for her with Somerhalder and Paul Wesley as love interests on the CW show.

"We expected the rumors. Like, if I wasn't dating Ian, I'd be dating Paul," Dobrev said in April's Teen Vogue. "A lot of people who work together end up dating, so it wouldn't be unusual, but I've never dated anyone I've worked with."

Perhaps that remains to be seen. Just ask Anna Paquin and Steve Moyer.

Hines Ward: 'Dancing With the Stars' win 'equally important' as Super Bowl victories

Hines Ward wins 'Dancing With the Stars'

"Dancing With the Stars" champ Hines Ward plans to put his mirror ball trophy right in between his two Super Bowl trophies.

The Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver and first-time dancer beat out funny lady Kirstie Alley and Disney darling Chelsea Kane when he won the ballroom dancing competition with partner Kym Johnson on Tuesday, despite her earlier neck injury.

"I have a place in my trophy case with my Super Bowl MVP trophy, right between my two Lombardis. It's gonna look nice," said Ward, a guest blogger on The Times' Fabulous Forum.

Hines earned a perfect score from judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli when he and Johnson reenacted their Week 3 samba to Earth, Wind & Fire's "Fantasy," showing off the football player's fluid hips and winning smile.

"That was wonderful," Inaba said during judging. "You dance with heart and it shows."

(In all fairness, Alley and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Kane and partner Mark Ballas also earned perfect scores in the much-hyped Season 12 finale.)

Steeler Nation definitely came through for Ward, perhaps with a little bit of help from Johnson's dazzling canary-yellow bustier and bouncy backstage jog.

The 35-year-old athlete said that the "Dancing With the Stars" title and two Super Bowl wins were equally important to him. Seriously.

"They mean different things," he said. "Winning the Super Bowl symbolized being the best in my profession. It along with winning the Super Bowl MVP is the ultimate goal both individually and as a team. It says we are good at what we do as professionals. Winning the mirror ball trophy for me symbolizes overcoming my fear of the unknown. It says that I was able to excel at something I knew nothing about. I was able to rise above difficulty and take a risk. Both prove that hard work pays off. Both are special."

Runner-up Alley, whose body transformation from "Fat Actress" and chemistry with Chmerkovskiy won over many viewers this season, was disappointed by the loss.

"I feel like we did amazing, but you want to win," the 60-year-old actress told reporters after the finale. "We didn't win, so I can't say we didn't have any sadness."

But that didn't last long.

"Oh...ps don't be upset about us not winning for long.... I won so much in the last 13 weeks that it would take hours to convey...LOVE," she later tweeted.

Justin Bieber gives Selena Gomez a very public kiss at Billboard Music Awards

   Justin Bieber kisses Selena Gomez

It started with a hug, then a kiss. We speak of Justin Bieber's very public smooch with girlfriend Selena Gomez at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday in Las Vegas.

Selena Gomez kisses Justin Bieber at Billboard Music Awards And may we just say: Justin and Selena sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G.

Bieber, who was attending the show for the first time, tied in wins with rapper Eminem, taking home trophies for top new artist, top social artist, top streaming artist, top digital media artist, top pop album and top streaming song.

When accepting one of his six awards of the night, Bieber simply hugged the Disney darling. But when the gilded blazer-clad singer was announced as the top new artist of 2011, he gave Gomez a kiss (right on the lips!) for everyone to see before taking the stage to accept his trophy. Watch a clip below.

We guess the 17-year-old just couldn't resist that smoking-hot little black number his girlfriend was wearing. And he seemed extremely grateful to "get out" of his hometown in Ontario, Canada.

Bieber and Gomez, who have been rumored to be dating for months before finally stepping out together at the Vanity Fair Oscar party, crushed the hearts of Bieber fans around the world. The teen idols have been warming up to each other much more frequently in front of camera and recently locked lips for paparazzi at a news conference in Indonesia.

What do you think of the Biebs' PDA with Gomez -- too cute or too gross? Tell us in comments.

Mariska Hargitay dishes on 'zen' baby Amaya Josephine

Mariska Hargitay talks Amaya Josephine baby adoptionMariska Hargitay of "Law & Order: SVU" has opened up about adopting her daughter Amaya Josephine, saying the baby girl is "very soothing to the heart."

The 47-year-old adopted the newborn last month with husband Peter Hermann, her former "SVU" costar.

"I feel like she really completed our little family of four," Hargitay told People.

The two, who have a 4½-year-old son named August, had been considering both international and domestic adoption before ultimately adopting Amaya Josephine, a mixed-race baby orn in the United States in April.

"You never know what you're going to get with the second baby, and so I was sort of nervous about it," Hargitay said. "She's so zen and so peaceful. I can't quite believe how easy she's been — her disposition. ... She's not fussy, she doesn't cry much. ... She's just very peaceful."

Guess that's where the whole "soothing to the heart" thing comes in.

"I feed her, she sleeps. It's pure magic. I feel very blessed," the actress said. Sweet life, no?

She added that August was a proud older brother and showed off Amaya Josephine to all his friends when Hargitay brought her to pick him up from school.

Aw and a half!
