Black Eyed Peas' Super Bowl halftime show: Um, thoughts? [poll]

2011 Super Bowl halftime show with Black Eyed Peas

The Black Eyed Peas' Super Bowl halftime show seems to have left some folks less than impressed, if the, um, impassioned comments on our related 2011 Super Bowl posts are any indication.

Personally, the Ministry sort of loved the light-up dancing people and would like to keep one as a pet. Then again, we always like shiny things. Plus, Guns N' Roses' Slash showed up, and he looks cool no matter what. (Never mind that you won't be hearing any GNR tune in the "Glee" episode after the game, or any other "Glee" episode, for that matter.)

Regarding the music, however -- was being three-sheets-to-the-wind drunk a requirement to enjoy this Super Bowl halftime show? Are the folks who said it's still cool to like the Black Eyed Peas eating their words? Do you sympathize with the not-an-old-fart-at-all editor who sent me a frantic note about that "horrific caterwauling by Fergie," proclaiming her ears had been violated?

Did the Peas suddenly make lyrics-flubbing Christina Aguilera look ... good? You might want to read Todd Martens' take on the Peas, "Pop Absurdity at Its Finest."

Take the poll, and post your own review in comments. (Keep it clean!)

Christina Aguilera kills the national anthem -- and not in a good way [video]

This post has been corrected. See the note at the bottom for details.

Christina Aguilera's fumbling of the national anthem before the 2011 Super Bowl may have been worse than Nick Collins' pick-six off the Pittsburgh Steelers' Ben Roethlisberger -- unless, of course, you're a Green Bay Packers fan.

Check out Xtina's "interpretation" of "The Star-Spangled Banner" above, and vote in the Lea Michele vs. Christina Aguilera singing poll. And remember, the blond diva has been getting the tune right for a long time, including at a hockey game when she was 11 (she starts around the 1-minute mark):

More recently, she got the lyrics right for Game 7 of the 2010 NBA Finals (see the proof below). So -- maybe this girl just isn't a football fan?

For the record, 5:59 p.m.: This post originally gave Ben Roethlisberger's first name as Brett. Of course, it is not Brett, just like Clay Matthews' first name is not Chris. Brett Favre's first name is Brett, however. Thanks to commenter @Eaglesfan19 for flagging my gaffe, and making me laugh at myself, albeit in a banging-my-head-on-the-wall way.

Super Bowl 2011: Lea Michele versus Christina Aguilera [poll]

Christina Aguilera sings the national anthem at the 2011 Super Bowl This post has been corrected. Please see the note at the bottom.

We won't know who won the 2011 Super Bowl for a few hours — so until then, can we decide whether Lea Michele or Christina Aguilera won the pregame singing contest?

Wearing a cream-colored car-length coat and tan slacks, Michele knocked out "America the Beautiful," right before Aguilera took the field in a little black Dolce & Gabbana suit to rock (some of the words to) "The Star Spangled Banner."

Which diva did the better job, or was it a tie? No fair giving Aguilera an advantage just because she got the flyover as a finale.

Tony Bennett slams home 'God Bless America' at World Series Game 1

For the record, 4:24 p.m.: This post originally said Lea Michele sang "God Bless America"; the "Glee" star actually sang "America the Beautiful," and we sang it right along with her and still typed the other song title. Thanks to commenters @lynebg, @Sheilah and @Mini for flagging the gaffe. Those who'd like to hear "God Bless America" will have to settle for Tony Bennett's World Series version.

'Glee' star Lea Michele will sing at the Super Bowl

Lea Michele will sing at the Super Bowl Lea Michele will sing "America the Beautiful" before Super Bowl XLV on Feb. 6, joining  pregame festivities set to star Christina Aguilera belting the national anthem.

The small-screen diva's Super Bowl appearance, first reported by E! News, will be bookended after the game by a special episode of "Glee" featuring a remake of Michael Jackson's "Thriller."

"The whole episode is big," costar Dianna Agron told Parade.

"There are really big dance numbers and pyrotechnics and zombies and fog. And a lot of Jane Lynch, which is always good."

Any thoughts on this year's Super Bowl entertainment lineup, which has the Black Eyed Peas on tap for halftime, in addition to Michele and Aguilera before the game?

Christina Aguilera to sing national anthem at Super Bowl

Super Bowl taps Christina Aguilera for national anthem Christina Aguilera will sing the national anthem at Super Bowl XLV, the NFL and Fox announced Monday.

"I have been performing the anthem since I was 7 years old, and I must say the Super Bowl is a dream come true," Aguilera said.

Country star Martina McBride did the honors in Pittsburgh on Sunday, where the Steelers beat the New York Jets, while fan favorite Jim Cornelison sang before the contest between the Packers and Bears in Chicago -- bumping "American Idol" winner Lee DeWyze. Cornelison regularly sings "The Star Spangled Banner" before Chicago Blackhawks games.

The gig comes in the wake of Aguilera's star treatment on Hollywood's Walk of Fame in November, not to mention the five-time Grammy winner's acting debut in "Burlesque."

The Packers and Steelers will meet Feb. 6 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, with the Black-Eyed Peas headlining the halftime show. More than 153 million people watched last year's Super Bowl.

Cute alert: Christina Aguilera takes son Max to Disneyland

Christina-aguilera-son-max-celeb-baby

The Ministry has toothache thanks to this sweet Christina Aguilera mother-son portrait.

Aguilera took her little guy Max to Disneyland in Anaheim on Tuesday, allowing the family some face time with Mickey, Minnie and Donald Duck.

Nice to see some one-on-one bonding, given that last fall Max's mom parted ways with his dad, music industry exec Jordan Bratman. The singer and actress recently celebrated a milestone birthday, her 30th, on New Year's Eve with pals including Nicole Richie and Joel Madden, and new boyfriend Matt Rutler.

Racy Christina Aguilera photos were hacked, rep says

Christina Aguilera A half-dozen racy pictures of a scantily clad Christina Aguilera that turned up online Wednesday are stylist shots never meant to see the light of day, the singer's rep said in a statement.

The pics, taken in Aguilera's home, "were illegally obtained by a hacker who tapped into Christina's personal stylist's account," the rep said, adding that Team Xtina is working to identify the culprits and intends to "pursue them aggressively."

One website that chose to publish the shots speculated that they might have been a "last ditch effort" by the "Burlesque" star to save her marriage -- yeah, the marriage in which she filed for divorce. Because semi-naked pictures taken in closets usually make everything better?

We would, however, like to share one family-friendly detail from the privacy-violating images: Girlfriend has a closet with one of the most awesome shoe-organizing setups we've seen. Think, Carrie Bradshaw's penthouse closet in the "Sex and the City" movie -- but in pink, with a leopard skin rug.

Such a short hop from scandal to envy. Sigh.

Scarlett Johansson, Taylor Lautner, Beckham boys get a 'Green Lantern' gift

Ryan Reynolds in Green Lantern While it's a federal offense to go through someone else's mail, the Ministry has some scoop on a special delivery that went wide to celebs including Scarlett Johansson, Jay-Z, Chris Pine, Taylor Lautner and Taylor Swift.

Warner Bros.' consumer products division sent out a "priceless parcel" to 100 famous faces from entertainers, including goodies geared to hype their forthcoming "The Green Lantern."

The action flick starring Ryan Reynolds doled out merchandise including a replica of superhero Lantern's power ring and bracelet, a hat and logo sweatshirt, and an illustrated T-shirt of the character by Wet Cement.

Some of Hollywood's most famous kids received the bundle as well, including Romeo, Cruz and Brooklyn Beckham (with one for father David); Christina Aguilera's little guy, Max; Willow and Jaden Smith; and Matthew McConaughey's kiddo, Levi.

The flick is slated to open June 17.

'Hellcats' star Aly Michalka -- channeling Christina Aguilera circa 1999?

Aly Michalka inspired by Christina Aguilera circa 1999?

Fashions have a tendency to come full circle, and though "Burlesque" star Christina Aguilera might have matured beyond the pop princess wardrobe of her "Genie in a Bottle" days, that doesn't mean others can't pick it up and run with it.

Witness the photos above. At left is Aguilera in 1999. At right, check out Aly Michalka (the blond) from the CW's cheerleader drama "Hellcats."

Light blond wavy-curly hair? Check. Midriff-baring logo top? Check. (Yes, technically Michalka is in character and wearing a uniform, and Xtina is just being herself, but somehow that makes it even better.)

Tell us in comments if you see the resemblance, and who you think rocks the look better.

Christina Aguilera, Alan Menken get their stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Christina Aguilera gets a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Singer and newly minted leading lady Christina Aguilera got her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday, just hours before hitting the premiere of her first film, "Burlesque," at Grauman's Chinese Theater.

Star No. 2,423 — in the recording category and in front of the Hard Rock Cafe on Hollywood Boulevard — belongs to the five-time Grammy winner, who has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide and has four No. 1 songs to her name. Mom Shelley Kearns and brother Michael Kearns were there for the ceremony and posed for pics.

Mandy Moore with Alan Menken at his Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony Composer Alan Menken picked up star No. 2,422 last week in the company of Mandy Moore and characters from the upcoming flick "Tangled," which he scored. His resume includes the scores for "Beauty and the Beast," "The Little Mermaid" and "Pocahantas" for Disney, plus eight Oscars and 10 Grammys.

Also, catching up a bit, a time capsule was buried at Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue in late October, ahead of the Walk of Fame's 50th anniversary.

Among the items included: Oscar telecasts from 1960 and 2010 on DVDs; a 2010 Primetime Emmy Awards program, invite, Governors Ball ticket and menu; a replica of the Capitol Records tower; a flash drive with radio programs including one from Jim Ladd of KLOS 95.5 FM; "Wicked" and "The Lion King" Playbills from the Pantages; a "Casablanca" script; and an autographed picture of Joanne Woodward, the first person to get a star; and from sponsor L'Oreal, lipstick in the commemorative shade "Walk of Fame Pink #50."

One item that could be a lot of fun to see in 50 years? A list of 2010 Emmy Foundation interns — some of whom had better wind up industry players by then.
