Shocking shock! 'New Moon' is mightier than 'Dark Knight'!

Robert Pattinson

Any "Twilight" fans surprised? Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner have taken away the one-day box-office crown previously held by Heath Ledger and Christian Bale in "The Dark Knight."

"The Twilight Saga: New Moon" sold $72.7 million worth of tickets Friday in the U.S. and Canada --  smashing "Dark Knight's" $67.2-million one-day sales record, Company Town reported.

The three-day total is $140.7 million, meaning "New Moon" just racked up the No. 3 domestic opening weekend of all time.

But is the power of "Twilight" limitless? There was a massive drop-off in ticket sales between Friday and Saturday, which indicates that a lot of fans absolutely, positively had to see it as soon as possible. Saturday, not so much.

Still, the folks over at Ski Channel alleged Friday that the "sexual energy" of Lautner, Stewart and Pattinson in "New Moon" was enough to move people off the mountains -- the ski resort mountains -- and into theaters over the weekend.

They were totally making that up, but this link is funny anyway.

Overpaid actor Will Ferrell is also a nice guy: Ask Pete Carroll

Willbark Will Ferrell is Hollywood's most overpaid actor, according to Forbes.com. He's got some good company too: Ewan McGregor, Tom Cruise and Billy Bob Thornton are in the Top 10.

But, hey, does the Ministry see Ewan or Tom or even Billy Bob dropping their names on a comedy event to help some of L.A.'s toughest neighborhoods? No, it does not. Will Ferrell, however, is hooking up with USC Coach Pete Carroll to do just that.

One word: karma.

More on the event in a sec -- first, how did Will get the short end of the ROI stick? Forbes looked at actors who over the last five years had starred in at least three movies that opened in more than 500 theaters, figured out money out and money in, and then a bunch of math happened...

Someone tell Arnold Schwarzenegger's agent: He's done with elected office

When Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's term expires in 2010, his elected-office quest will be terminated.

Ouch, did that hurt you to read as much as it hurt us to type?

Anyhoo, the California governor has said before that the only other office he'd want to run for is president -- a challenge if you were born in Austria.

Arnie And today in Milan, Italy, he let folks know that he'll be off American ballots permanently when he's done governating.

Stop these puns. Someone please cast Arnold in a new movie immediately so we can have some new ones.

Here's the thing -- Arnold has been employed steadily for a while now, and might not know how challenging the job market has gotten. A little job-hunt help might be in order.

We've included the video above, in case he needs to brush up on where one of his big franchises has gone in his absence.

"Transforminators," indeed.
