Oscars: Writers Kristen Wiig, Annie Mumolo at a loss for words

"Bridesmaids" writers Annie Mumolo and Kristen Wiig

"Bridesmaids" original screenplay nominees Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo were nothing on the red carpet if not, well, overwhelmed.

"It's very exciting and shocking and overwhelming and we're very grateful and happy to be here," Wiig said Sunday before the Academy Awards.

As for response to their film, Mumolo said, it's been "overwhelming and unexpected and ... it made us very happy to know that we reached some people."

The craziness of the carpet had the usually glib Wiig searching for a word to describe it all -- but Mumolo stepped in.

"It sounded like a football game was going on in here when we were in line."

That's something to be happy about.
