Justin Bieber meets Mrs. Bieber; happy couple plays Candyland
When they threw a wedding for "Mrs. Bieber," everyone was present except the groom. Now Justin Bieber has met 6-year-old Avalanna Routh, and she's simply awesome, the singer says.
Routh, a fan of mani-pedi's and Ellen DeGeneres in addition to Bieber, has a rare type of brain cancer. She was diagnosed at 9 months old with an atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumor (AT/RT).
Since then, the little girl — hard to resist in her TV appearances — has had "countless" surgeries, chemotherapy, a stem cell transplant and radiation, according to the Daily News of Newburyport, Mass. (The family has a home in Merrimac, Mass.)
The "Mrs. Bieber" story began last year at the Jimmy Fund Clinic pediatric cancer center at Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The staff, knowing Avalanna to be a big fan of Bieber, threw a pretend wedding. Her red T-shirt said "Future Mrs. Bieber" and there were flowers, a wedding cake and a singer.
In an appearance Tuesday on Boston sports radio show WEEI, Avalanna's mom, Aileen Routh, said the meeting with Bieber came about as a result of a Facebook page created by a family friend.
The page — "Get Avalanna to Meet Justin Bieber" — "went absolutely crazy," she said. A "very whirlwind" visit to New York to meet Bieber followed.
What did the happy pair do?
"We played Candyland," Avalanna said.
