As ‘Modern Family’ cast members took their group shot at the Los Angeles Times’ Photo Booth, male actor in a comedy series winner Alec Baldwin used the opportunity both to acknowledge two other thespians in his category — and to look for his next TV job.

‘You know, my show is almost over,’ Baldwin said, eyeing fellow nominees Ty Burrell and Eric Stonestreet. Baldwin clarified: ‘I’m actually pitching myself to you guys.’

However, never one to hold back, he joked as he watched the ensemble pose: ‘Look at them. So young, so talented, so smug.’

So what in the world does a person do with six Actor statuettes? ‘I’m building an addition to my house with them,’ he quipped as he moved to get his own picture taken.

Not a bad idea from a guy who has also toyed with the idea of running for mayor of New York City — a concept that had most media backstage more interested in Baldwin’s opinion on the Republican candidates for president than any plans for his new trophy.

‘The Republicans are nervous that if they don’t have a real red-state type of candidate like a [Newt] Gingrich, then they’re not going to get the Christian right to come to the polls and they’ll lose to Obama in a head-to-head election,’ he said.

‘But the thing about the campaign that concerns me most is — how is Gingrich going to be able to retract all the things he’s said about Romney once he becomes a nominee?’

Baldwin has come to realize that he can’t share his political beliefs with every journalist he encounters, saying he tries to save those opinions for MSNBC rather than E! But no matter the outlet, he acknowledged, he’s still fearful of how his views might affect his career.

‘I’m still scared to speak up,’ Baldwin said. ‘I want Season 7 [of ’30 Rock’] really badly. When you do speak out, it does cost you. The people that are the greatest film stars today and have the most potent careers are ones you know nothing about. They’re very sanitized.

‘And maybe I should have been more like that.’
