Director Francis Ford Coppola walked his daughter down the aisle at the garden ceremony at the family-owned 19th century mansion Palazzo Margherita. All the festivities took place in Bernalda, the hometown of the bride’s grandparents, in southern Italy.

‘Everything went well,’ Bernalda’s Mayor Leonardo Chiruzzi, who officiated, told the Associated Press. ‘It was simple, calm, in the garden.’

The couple’s impressive guest list of about 80 people was rumored to include the likes of George Lucas, Johnny Depp, Talia Shire and Sofia’s famous cousins Nicolas Cage and Jason Schwartzman.

At the reception, the newlyweds and guests dined on local cheeses, salads, pasta, fish and pork, along with Coppola family wine, People reported.

And dessert? Cake, of course. Decorated in white flowers, the delicacy, prepared by the chef at nearby Magna Grecia hotel, was a simple vanilla flavor with chantilly cream.

‘They came in last week and chose the cake,’ said Biagio Loiudice, who runs the hotel. ‘It’s not high, very simple. They preferred simplicity.’

The Phoenix frontman and his Oscar-winning wife, engaged since May, have two daughters, Romy, 4, and Cosima, 15 months.

Coppola’s first marriage, to director Spike Jonze, ended in 2003.
