Only a few months ago, singer Sean Kingston was laid up in a hospital bed, clinging to life after crashing his jet ski in Miami. He sustained serious injuries in May and required multiple surgeries, including one on his heart.

Now back on his feet and 45 pounds lighter, Kingston hit the Teen Choice Awards on Sunday night, his first red carpet event since the ordeal.

"I basically learned that in life, anything can happen," he said. "You've gotta count your blessings and you've gotta worship God and believe in God and know that anything can happen -- so you just gotta be cautious with what you do."

Kingston, who is heading into the studio this week to start work on his next album, said he is now "thinking more" before he jumps into risky situation, and has retired his jet ski -- "for now."

The artist was on hand at the Gibson Amphitheater to present his friend Justin Bieber with the award for choice male artist. On the red carpet, Kingston said the young pop star had been a supportive friend throughout his health scare.

And as for rumors that Bieber's girlfriend, Selena Gomez, broke up with the young pop star because she didn't want him hanging out with "bad boy" Kingston?

"That's all rumors," Kingston said on the carpet. "Selena's my friend. We all friends."
