George Clooney, Elisabetta Canalis have split

George Clooney and Elisabetta Canalis have broken up, they said Wednesday in a joint statement.

‘We are not together anymore,’ they said. ‘It’s very difficult and very personal, and we hope everyone can respect our privacy.’

Model-actress Canalis, 32, told Italian magazine Chi recently that she is a firm believer in marriage; Clooney, 50, had emphasized in January that he would never marry again. The couple began dating in 2009.

So, there you have it, there it is -- maybe he should have bought her that island after all.

The statement was released in London, where Clooney is filming ‘Gravity’ with Sandra Bullock.
