Zsa Zsa Gabor was hospitalized this week for treatment of pneumonia, according to her rep.

The decision to take the 94-year-old to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center by ambulance Wednesday afternoon was made by her doctor after a regular exam at her home. A similar regular exam in March resulted in Gabor being hospitalized for blood-flow problems in her left leg.

‘She’s having trouble breathing,’ publicist John Blanchette told CNN. ‘They’re trying to save her life right now, getting the fluids off her lungs.’

Gabor, 94, has struggled with health problems for years, most recently experiencing multiple complications after a July 2010 fall in which she broke her left hip and other bones. The actress’ right leg was amputated above the knee in January to prevent the spread of gangrene.

While hospitalized in March, she declined a recommendation to have her left leg amputated, opting instead to return home.

In the meantime, Gabor’s husband, Prince Frederick Von Anhalt, was up to his usual quiet life. A lunch Monday with Pamela Bach, David Hasselhoff‘s ex-wife, resulted in midweek reports that Bach had offered to act as a surrogate or egg donor or both, if Von Anhalt were to ask. In April, the 67-year-old publicly floated the idea of finally having a baby with his bedridden wife, using artificial insemination and a surrogate.

Bach’s reps countered, telling TMZ, ‘We refuse to acknowledge the delusional ramblings of this man who clearly has done nothing more than plant a fictional tale in a desperate attempt for attention. Our sympathy to Ms. Gabor who is an innocent victim of his shenanigans.’

Even if Bach had offered, a reproductive specialist already explained to CNN last month why the ‘prince’ might not be able to get what he wants: Ethical issues including age, health and consent would scare away any credible fertility clinic, according to Dr. Dan Shapiro of Reproductive Biology Associates of Atlanta.

‘This is not a reasonable request,’ Shapiro told CNN. ‘This is not a childless family seeking to family-build.’

Gabor’s daughter Constance Francesca Hilton seemed to agree after hearing Von Anhalt’s plan in April, telling CNN, ‘That’s just weird.’
