Rick Springfield arrested on suspicion of DUI in Malibu

Rick Springfield arrested on driving under the influence charge Rick Springfield, the guy who sang "Jessie's Girl," was arrested in Malibu on Sunday night on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Sheriff's deputies pulled over the soap actor-turned-crooner in his 1963 Corvette around 8 p.m., making the traffic stop near Pacific Coast Highway and Trancas Canyon Road, said Steve Whitmore, spokesman for the L.A. County Sheriff's Department.

"He made a maneuver away from the light and it prompted them to stop and pull him over," Whitmore said. It was unknown what Springfield did that caught the deputies' attention.

When they pulled him over, deputies said, they smelled alcohol on Springfield's breath and asked him to breathe into a breathalyzer. The 61-year-old blew a 0.10% on the field sobriety test, according to Whitmore. The legal limit in California is 0.08.

Springfield was arrested and taken into custody at the Malibu/Lost Hills Station. After he sobered up, Whitmore said, the singer was released on $5,000 bond around 2:10 a.m.

That's the same station where Mel Gibson was taken after he was arrested "without incident" on a DUI charge in 2006. Once details of that arrest were leaked, it turned into quite an incident for the actor.

Rick Springfield arrested after appearance at Los Angeles Times Festival of Books

Earlier on Sunday at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, Springfield had joked that he would take his pants off to keep one bored audience member interested. Promoting his new memoir "Late, Late at Night," he said he would not be reprising his role as Dr. Noah Drake on "General Hospital," nor strutting his stuff on "Dancing With the Stars."

Springfield also divulged that he never did get the girl who inspired "Jessie's Girl," according to Jacket Copy.

These "younger famous" actors should be appreciated. He was trying to eke out a meager after post fame. He was taken to the same RIGHT WING NEOCON sheriff station where the Black girl (Matrice Richards?) was allowed to wander off in the middle of the night, whose dead body was subsequently found in back of, after police claimed she had voluntarily left the area. It is an "Inland" sheriff station located many twisting miles of canyon inland from the beach, it is almost in Ventura County/near Thousand Oaks CA with a completely different judicial temperment than L.A. or Malibu. Just saying. Beware the PCH in Malibu because theses cops are not all sweetness and light especially if you are a minority.

Do you think he made his one phone call to 867-5309?

BEST...MUGSHOT...EVER!! Still sexy after all these years!

Let's hope his cellmate isn't named Jesse.

will never stop loving him - even though he has made some really stupid mistakes!

Yikes, he needs to lay off the Miss Clairol and stop trying to be 25 years old for the 35th yea in a row.

I hope I look that good at 61!

I am glad he did not injure another or himself, good work Sheriffs ! Rick, when you can stop by the Midnight Mission on Monday night (7:30 PM. It is a good speaker mtg. and I'll be there tonight, your welcome! one can park there underground

I can't understand driving drunk. I especially can't understand anyone who has the $$$ to live in Malibu not calling a car service if he's had a few drinks!
Call a friend.
Call a cab.
Take the bus.
Walk.
Don't drink and drive!

867-5309 is Tommy Tutone. Oops! I just exposed my age...

The reason these former stars get into trouble is because it's the only way they can get back in print.

Actually, Rick Springfield has been involved in the music business way before he got into acting. He was making a living in music as far back as the late 60's, and in many interviews recalled how he would have impromptu jams with Jimi Hendrix and Neil Young, to name a few.

Even though I am no huge fan of pop music, "Jessie's Girl" is a great song! So is "867-5309 Jenny"..

OK, now you can all kick a confirmed Jimi Hendrix fan....LOL! Seriously though, I hope Rick can realize what he has done, and learn his lesson, and become a better person in the process. He hasn't survived all these years for nothing, I hope he comprehends that.

He was probably drinking to commiserate over Jesse's girl...

I'd rather see a photo of his 63 Corvette

@OCDude ... you and me both, my friend.

Oops, um, this is Christie D'Zurilla here from MOG, reacting rather unjournalistically.

But it *is* a really cool ride. Rebuilt in Texas, at a shop a ways north of the Metroplex. Click the link for pics.

He was wearing the same shirt when he was arrested that he was wearing in that promo pic holding his book!

61, are you kidding me? I can't believe it he looks like 38? Amazing. Twenty years ago he would have just been on the .10 line and not arrested oh well dude, he doesn't really look very drunk. At least he didn't wreck...

Everyone makes mistakes. He's human. I'm just so glad that he's ok.

custom vette ;)

To accommodate Springfield’s request for “a place to put his coffee,” the team created a custom console with two drink holders.

Other Features: Springfield requested a special console with two drink holders to hold his coffee.

Very funny comments, but Tommy Tutone (sp?) sang "867-5309", not Rick Springfield...

Dr. Noah Drake gets busted for DUI. Quick, somebody call General Hospital in Port Charles, New York. Sons Patrick and Matt will want to know. :)

Damn he still looks good. Love the hair. Saw him in Vegas about 10 years ago.

I hope those RIGHT WING NEOCON sheriff's deputies treated him well..."Stay the hell out of my beach community, Lebowski!!"

I saw Rick earlier in the day the the Times Festival of Books @ USC. He is still gorgeous but his personality and comments were kind of off-putting. He was being interviewed outside at a venue filled with kids and a lot of his comments/words were inappropriate. I got up and left. He may have had a glass of something before he came on stage because he was kind of strange but as I don't know him that could have been just how he is. Nonetheless, I do hope he gets help; driving and drinking is dangerous not only to himself but for all the rest of us on the road with him.

For the record, he was a musician before, during and after his stint on "General Hospital". A good one at that.

OH, RICK, WAKE UP!!
