'Water for Elephants': Reese Witherspoon, Robert Pattinson and his sisters premiere the movie in New York
Sure, there were Oscar winners on hand at the "Water for Elephants" premiere Sunday -- but who really cared about them when Robert Pattinson was hitting the red carpet. Along with sisters Lizzie and Victoria at New York's Ziegfeld Theatre, the "Twilight" star marked the arrival of his new movie about a love triangle set amid a 1930s circus.
OK, people did actually care about more than just RPattz and his sibs: It was, after all, Reese Witherspoon's first premiere since her late-March marriage to agent Jim Toth.
Plus the movie is based on the historical novel by Sarah Gruen -- the author was also on hand Sunday -- that ruled the bestseller lists in summer 2007 and has been back on top recently with its movie-related re-release in trade paperback.
Other "Elephants" folks hitting the red carpet included Christoph Waltz (like Witherspoon, an Academy Award winner), Oscar nominee Hal Holbrook and costars Donna Scott and Mark Povinelli.
Also spotted: Julia Stiles, Gina Gershon, Michael Strahan, Nicole Murphy, Kasia Pilewicz of "America's Next Top Model" (if she's really "plus size," put us in a burlap sack and drown us now) and Rupert Murdoch of News Corp., of which "Elephants" distributor Fox 2000 Pictures is a subsidiary. The story's love triangle may indeed involve the characters played by Pattinson, Witherspoon and Waltz, but Ministry readers know the truth: Rob actually had a crush on the elephant.
"Water for Elephants" opens Friday.
