Nicole Crowther regrets leaving Twitter over 'Glee' spoiler, says she didn't work prom episode
Nicole Crowther, the one-time "Glee" extra who was skewered for tweeting a spoiler of the hit show's prom episode and incurred the wrath of co-creator Brad Falchuk, is trying to set the record straight: She did not work the episode in question and heard the information secondhand.
"I had no idea it would blow up like this, I do regret it," she told the Ministry on Monday. Crowther, 21, appeared on only one episode of the show, she said, in 2010. Reports last week had characterized her as working "Glee" regularly, and tweeting after learning the prom king and queen's identity in person.
"I'm afraid my career is in jeopardy -- my career that hasn't even started because of this lie," she said. "Nobody took the time to check the facts. But I do understand why [Falchuk] would be upset ... the truth of the matter is that I wasn't on set."
Crowther, a film student, revealed the cryptic spoiler last week to her nearly 2,000 followers, with whom she had a "Glee"-related rapport. Fans of the show were able to decipher the code, but she said she wasn't even sure if the rumor was true.
Then a Twitter tirade from Falchuk seemed to confirm her speculation: "@nicolecrowther Hope you're qualified to do something besides work in entertainment," he wrote, adding "Who are you to spoil something talented people have spent months to create?"
"That's what surprised me the most," Crowther said. "I was very stunned by what he said to me regarding my career. I honestly think that my heart stopped beating for a minute that he even heard what I said."
So where did Crowther get her info? She said she heard the secret at an April 16 dinner party, from a girl who claimed to have been an extra on the "Glee" prom set the day before -- and it was Falchuk who appeared to confirm its veracity.
"Nobody really knows who I am, I'm just twittering away and he goes on and he confirms it. Only a few people would have heard what I said. And he's the one that spread it even more than I did and seemed to threaten my career." She deactivated her Twitter account soon after.
Now, the actress says she's been blackballed. The extra casting agencies she works through suspended her for two to three weeks, and the agency that casts background specifically for "Glee" told her she'd never again work on the Fox show, or on any show it handles.
Crowther's background gigs are a side job while she pursues training to becoming a director. The Fort Myers, Fla., native is a student at the Los Angeles Feature Film Academy, and has found herself in the background on TV sets including Disney's "Shake It Up," "Kickin' It" and "A.N.T. Farm"; Nickelodeon's "Big Time Rush," "Victorious," and "Supah Ninjas"; Fox's "Traffic Light"; and TNT's "Men of a Certain Age." She also worked on the upcoming movies "Prom" and "The Muppets."
The self-proclaimed "Glee" fan had been tweeting about Fox's hit show for about five months, building her following among the Gleek community last October after tweeting that she'd been an extra on the show. She said she's tried to reactivate the account, to no avail, and regrets having deactivating it in the first place, despite knowing that she'd upset a lot of people.
"I deleted it because I thought it would help," but in doing so might have convinced people she was in the wrong. "I shouldn't have deleted it."
"I have nothing to be ashamed of, I have nothing to hide. I'm telling the truth and I'm going to prove that to everyone."

The punishment seems extremely severe. There was "no disclosure clause" and for her to be blackballed over the incident seems overkill. Especially, when you consider what the impact of being blackballed had on previous actors and the those in Hollywood during the McCarthy era. What we are really seeing are the bruised egos of those in charge. Did any one die or was anyone hurt by her disclosure. No. The fans of the show will still tune in and those who were not interested may turn to see if her disclosure was correct. Will advertisers turn away. No. There did not seem to be any malice on her part, attention seeking (maybe), but, then this is Hollywood (land of attention seekers). To ruin her career (before, she even starts)--overkill and petty. Hopefully, she will learn from this, rise above all of this and succeed despite the sallowness and lack of compassion of tinsel town vindictive egomaniacs .

Everyone needs to learn the power of their words on the internet. She learned a valuable lesson and should move on.

The fact she seems determined to prove she's in the wrong just makes me think she's just trying to lay the blame on someone else. Regardless of who she got her information from, the fact is she gave it to other people knowing full well they might actually believe her. She knew exactly how many people were following her on twitter then blamed alcohol on her twitter message. Now she's blaming someone else. Brad Falchuk was right in what he did and her pointing a finger back only makes this look ten times worse than it already is. Give it up, Nicole, move on. Get over it. It's done, now walk away.

Sounds like all the negative comments are coming from Fox executives. A little damage control.
Does anyone understand that? Why else would this be such a big deal?
There are 12,000 people still missing in Japan from the earthquake and Tsunami and here Fox and crew's only concern is ruining this girls reputation and career. Do people no longer have morals or values?

People were following her Twitter because she posted about Glee. It made Livejournal communities and Tumblr posts within minutes of her tweet and, since it wasn't the first time her words had made the rounds, it seems disingenuous on Ms Crowther's part to be surprised that people paid attention.
Falchuk's actions were severe, but not extreme. She spoiled a climactic episode that involved a season long arc on a show that takes great care in selecting what it pre-releases and what it keeps hidden. Lead actors have been chided for letting things slip in interviews, so why should an extra be surprised that she's fired?
Nor should it surprise her that other shows don't want someone working with them who has done this.
I hope things get better for her, but my sympathy is minimal.

@Fabrisse -- "Falchuk's actions were severe, but not extreme. She spoiled a climactic episode that involved a season long arc on a show that takes great care in selecting what it pre-releases and what it keeps hidden"
Give me a break! Ever heard of a thing called "a twist"? There is nothing this girl "ruined" that can't be fixed, plot-wise, and if their writers can't get their heads out of their butts long enough to figure that out, then they - not the girl - should be sacked!
I'd also sack Falchuk, too, for being an immature snot, to put it nicely!

Hello???? YOU CANT FIRE SOMEONE WHO WASNT WORKING FOR YOU!!!! Are you all idiots? Many of the articles mentioned all the other shows she has worked on and guess what? None of them had any problems. How many followers does Brad Falchuk have? A hell of alot more than a newbie in the business.

Why is this even news?

Dumb dumb dumb, the girl and the show.

The fact she's trying to spin herself as a victim is disgusting. She's been passing herself off as an extra for the show for months and this isn't the first spoiler she's leaked out. She proved in a very public forum that she's not capable of keeping show information to herself. Why would any other show want to work with her?
Go look at her trail of internet breadcrumbs to see just how many spoilers she's been leaking. Not only that, she's also tried to give out details to random strangers regarding the glee cast's personal relationships. There are pages and pages regarding speculation of spoilers she's tweeted on several forums on the internet. Glee forum, L Chat, etc. Not to mention tumblr and twitter. She's an idiot if she thinks she can now backtrack on this and play it off as a one time occurrence.
Stop covering her and let her five minutes of fame end and let the casting agencies and FOX deal with her in private.

One poster suggests changing the script....um...apparently you don't realize how MAJOR a plot point it was that she gabbed about...like others have said the whole freaking season has been leading up to this moment...you can't just go rewrite the climax of the story line. Perhaps you should learn a thing or two about writing.

Dear Nicole, you posted sensitive information on your twitter feed. You just might do it again. Why would anyone risk hiring an extra who is looking to exchange inside information for attention ?
Also, going to sites that are posting this story and trying to change the spin by posting comments under other names - (with so much trouble in the world, why are we talking about this) - is so very Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan. Congrats, you are now truly amongst the elite!

The fact of the matter is, she wasn't there, repeated gossip, and then had her post validated by the guy from the show. Take a good long hard look at who is really at fault here. Who was she before this? Someone who nobody would have put any thought into as if her post ment anything at all. Its only because someone from the show gave her words clout.
Rediculous.

I think the lesson she learned here is that she's dealing with very big egos in this business. They take themselves and their work too seriously, to the point of ruining people if anyone interferes with their precious "art". The girl made a mistake, and this is a freakin' tv show, for crying out loud. She didn't spill government secrets. It shouldn't have anything do with her future projects and she SHOULD NOT be punished by her agency. Good grief. I didn't think I could hate that show more than I do already.

I'm also laughing at the thought of this girl posting "sensitive information on her Twitter feed". "Sensitive information" is now considering who is prom queen on a television show? I mean, have we seriously all lost our minds?! Hardly "sensitive". I think the Glee creators will live and continue to rake in millions of dollars on their mindless drivel that they call "entertainment", regardless of a spoiler getting out. Good Lord folks, gossip and entertainment sites make a living out of what this actress did mistakenly.

OMG Give it up! What the girl did was nothing different than what I would do. She told a rumor...big deal. The hype is because Falchuk confirmed the rumor! I really hope he was reprimanded for his actions on twitter. In my opinion, he gave it away. Not Nicole. Leave the girl alone. She's a kid. Why isn't the media attacking him for confirming such a rumor on twitter? He's the one that should know better.

Just taking a poll.....how many believe the negative posts in this thread are part of this orchestrated smear campaign to discredit and bully this girl?????
Posted by: Chrissy | Apr 27, 2011 at 06:19 PM
It seems quite simple, either the girl was on the set and got the information as part of her job, she should have kept that confidential, in which case she is in trouble.
On the other hand, if what she claims is true, that she hasn’t been on the set for months, did not and could not have been told as part of her job, then Brad Falchuk should be ashamed of himself. His seemingly cruel attack is would be unfounded and misdirected, if Nicole found out from someone who should have kept it secret, then take it out on them, not Nicole.
Either way, it seems like Brad is behaving like a bully, get over yourself Brad. I hope you have the grace to resign if you are proven wrong. If you are lying and just want to blame someone other than yourself, then to use your words, I “Hope you’re qualified to do something besides work in entertainment”.

Who is Nicole Crowther and where is she from? I heard she goes to the LA Feature Film Academy or the American Feature Film Academy at the LA Center Studios. Can anyone tell me about this place? I saw the President was Monika Wesley or Bill Wesley. What kind of school doesn't teach their students this.
Posted by: Andrea | Apr 28, 2011 at 12:20 AM
She had been giving spoilers out for months before this happened, lots and lots of spoilers. People would ask her questions and she would answer them while trying not to give too much away. If she had not been working on Glee for months, how had she answered fellow fans twitter? All of those spoilers? Unless her supposed friends who are extras were always by her side feeding her information....than this confirms Nicole is a liar. She is just trying to save her career. She should know not to give out major spoilers especially when so many people were fans of her on twitter. Hopefully she learned a lesson from this. Don't hate on Brad. If I was him, I would be pretty pissed too.
Posted by: Amanda | Apr 28, 2011 at 05:18 AM
watchin, lisa and thresea you three "geniuses" are the ones who needs to get somewhere (because you don't know what you're talking about, it isn't a big deal but she knew what she was doing)and to the other bloke:
"Just taking a poll.....how many believe the negative posts in this thread are part of this orchestrated smear campaign to discredit and bully this girl?????
Posted by: Chrissy | Apr 27, 2011 at 06:19 PM "
now how many "woe is me sympathizers" here (probably the same perso nor the big mouth herself) are apart of this orchestrated "oh poor guy Brad sucks" campaign? Probably her little friends who probably came on here.
Anon y and "I see you" was right, she knew what she was doing, got a big head by being some not-as-pretty-as-she think-she-is-generic-extra and got caught spoiling stuff. She's done this before. Also, laying blame else where when you know still that you shouldn't have posted anything (as if no one would actually read her stuff, I mean come on there are millions of Glee fans on the web daily lol) is lame. She isn't stupid, just stepped out of pocket, though again, not the first time.

SPOILER*** I just overheard this guy at the casting agency is writing all the negative blogs!
When you're on your cell try not to speak to loudly if you don't want others to hear. Dumb As*
Posted by: Anon | Apr 28, 2011 at 12:44 PM
She should own up to what she said. Doesn't matter the source. She's indicative of a growing problem in our society. People who don't take responsibility for their actions. Does everything have to be written out in a legal document for people to not break what are social taboos? I hope she never gets any kind of work where secrets matter. Maybe working for McDonald's is what she's really good for.
Posted by: Nomore | Apr 29, 2011 at 07:43 AM
Its a common rule in the biz you don't blab your mouth about the show whether its a disclosure or not. Its called respect and she lost all the respect she might have gained as an extra. People will probably forget about this in a few months anyway. She needs to just let this play out... I don't think her career is in the coffin just yet. Lol.
Posted by: Aspiring Actor | May 03, 2011 at 01:00 PM
Why is NOBODY mentioning she lied and misled the fans and spread spoilers for months. C'mon! She either is lying about not being a frequent extra or she was still in the wrong for consistently spoiling things her "friends in the business" were telling her. Wrong regardless. Stop giving her interviews.
