Mariska Hargitay adopts a baby girl with husband Peter Hermann
Mariska Hargitay has adopted a baby girl with husband Peter Hermann, the "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" actress said Wednesday.
"We are very excited that we are now a multi-racial family," Hargitay, 47, told People exclusively, saying they'd considered both international and domestic adoption. "We're just so happy she's here."
Amaya Josephine, who was born in the U.S. last week, joins big brother August, Gossip Cop reports. August, who turns 5 in June, participated in naming his new little sister, People said Thursday. "We all talked about names because everything is a family decision in our house," said the new mom, who'd labeled herself "deliriously happy."
"SVU fans: I guess I don't have to keep the secret any longer," costar Ice-T said late Wednesday on Twitter, linking to the adoption news.
A source told Us Magazine that the adoption was "a long time coming."
Hargitay has been part of the "SVU" cast since the series began in 1999. She and Hermann, an actor, married in 2004. Hargitay's mother was Jayne Mansfield, who died in a car accident in 1967.

Happy days ahead for you, congratulations. I love your acting and the SVU show. I met your mother in Montreal and she was a really nice and friendly lady, it surprised me how small she was. Anyway God Bless you and your family.

My congratulations to Mariska and Peter-they realized so many children in this country are without parents and were willing to go through the journey for this child! Too bad the LA Times doesn't screen some of these posters on this site though, no one wants to read their drunken ramblings!

An amazing woman deserves an amazing family and an amazing life. I am her biggest fan ( well in my opinion anyway:) I see a truly warm person on screen & I know someone with that much love for others on screen has to have that much love in her general life. And you really don't seem that too often; that's what makes Mariska one of a kind and a true and honorable actress. I love you Mariska & I hope all of your dreams come true ; if they haven't already :D

I'm excited and happy for Mariska. She is my favorite actress and my idol. This child must be very happy . Mariska beyond beautiful on the outside, it is also a great person. Congratulations to the family.

I never thought of us as a multi-racial family. But I guess that's what we are too. We just got color blind after falling in love with our grandchildren as they were presented to us.

My wife & i adopted a new born girl in 08. It was a blessing from god. We gave her Mariska Hargitay name (Mariska) after her because she is such beautiful person inside and out.
We hope you both cherish her as much as we do our little girl Mariska.
