While the animated birds who star in ‘Rio’ were racing toward the year’s best opening-weekend box office, Vin Diesel and other stars of the street-racing movie ‘Fast Five’ were actually in Rio de Janeiro for the premiere of the newest installment of the franchise.

Cast members Diesel, Paul Walker, Tyrese Gibson, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Ludacris and Gal Gadot were on hand Friday in Brazil, as was director Justin Lin, who also helmed 2009’s ‘Fast & Furious.’ Click the pics for more photos from the premiere.

Walker, Diesel and Brewster starred in the 2001 franchise launcher, ‘The Fast and the Furious.’ If ‘Fast Five’ copies ‘Rio’ and takes in more than $40 million its first weekend, that would push the ‘Fast’ films’ combined global box-office total over the $1-billion mark.

The movie hits theaters April 29.
