SXSW 2011: Kanye West closes festival -- and it's date night for Jay-Z, Beyonce
Beyonce and Jay-Z aren't your average couple -- for them, some humble live music on date night entailed jetting to Austin, Texas, to see pal Kanye West close the SXSW festival Sunday night.
West and his fellow G.O.O.D. Music label-mates assembled at South by Southwest for a concert at which celebs and festival-goers, numbering 2,500, were treated to solo jams and exciting collaborations. Tennis pro Andy Roddick and model wife Brooklyn Decker attended, as did funnymen Aziz Ansari and Jimmy Kimmel, catching acts including John Legend, Kid Cudi, Bon Iver and Mos Def.
Beyonce and her hubby spent hours on their feet jamming backstage to West numbers such as "Power," until Jay was moved to join Kanye on stage, eventually taking over and belting his own hits including "Big Pimpin.'"
Stars have been popping up all over festival, including actress Rosario Dawson, who stopped by the PlayStation lounge while promoting "Girl Walks Into a Bar," the YouTube-only comedy she stars in with Danny DeVito.
Likewise, "Gossip Girl" star Taylor Momsen spent the weekend roaming -- in her rock-star shoes. She and her band the Pretty Reckless partied at the Carrera Sunglasses Escape before performing Saturday for the Austin crowd.
