Rebecca Black talks about 'Friday' on Friday

The day has finally come (it's Friday, "Friday") for the Ministry to acknowledge the viral virility of Rebecca Black's song and music video of the same name.

After a week in hiding, the Auto-Tuned songstress -- whose producers insist she sang in key -- talked with "Good Morning America" on, you guessed it, Friday, about the "Why is this playing over and over in my head?" quality of her song.

"I think that's an accomplishment. Even a person who doesn't like it, it's going to be stuck in their head. That's the point of it. It's a catchy song," said Rebecca, 13.

The Orange County eighth-grader, who seems bred from Ke$ha and Kim Kardashian's musical mash-ups and looks slightly like Lea Michele, has been omnipresent on social media all week with reactions to her song, which goes a little something like this:

7 a.m. She wakes up. She needs her bowl and cereal. Then needs to get down to the bus stop. Then needs to make the really difficult decision of where to sit in the car.

"Kickin in the front seat, sittin' in the back seat, which seat can I take?"

Yes, those are the real words Black helped co-write with her record label, Ark Music Factory. Other words include "It's Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday." Gobsmacked? Watch it in all its low-tech glory above.

The video -- part of a $2,000 Ark package that her mom paid for -- has already topped 16 million views on YouTube,  putting her on a similar success trajectory with Justin Bieber. FYI: The song sounds a touch like "Baby," and Black has a self-diagnosed case of Bieber Fever. The video, however, has spawned hilarious parodies that pretty much assist in justifying its existence.

The Anaheim Hills teen likely surprised a few people when she didn't do a terrible job singing a few bars from the national anthem on "GMA." (See video of the interview below.)

"I think I have talent on some level. I don't think I'm the worst singer, but I don't think I'm the best singer," she said.

(For the record, it took this Ministry writer three tries to get through the whole video. The days of the week have never sounded so daunting.)

"After seeing it go from 4,000 views to 70,000 views in one night and then waking up and it was at 200,000, that was when I realized it was going to be big," Rebecca added.

However, this 13-year-old is "big" mostly because of the backlash of online commentary -- including remarks that ask her to cut herself, get an eating disorder and die. But is there now possibly a backlash to the backlash? From comments on her Ark Music Factory profile page:

"Now that I know you're 13 I feel kind of bad. At least all those itunes purchases will pay for college, amirite?"

Is the song fun, fun, fun or dreadful, dreadful, dreadful?

Why U hate Monday through Thursday Rebecca?

Fridays and Saturdays are overrated by a long shot.

You should at least give Tuesdays a second shot. Tuesdays ain't so bad.

omgggggggggggggg such a horrible song. i actually want to die after listening to it.

Okay, it's not brilliant. It's actually kind of a stupid song...but really, is it all that much better than what we hear on the radio? At least it's original.

But what I hate is that people are telling her to cut herself and get an eating disorder so she'll be pretty. The only reason they're saying that is because they're hiding behind the internet. They don't have to look her in the eye as they say these awful things. No one deserves an eating disorder, and no one deserves depression. If you don't like the song, fine. That's perfectly okay. But say THAT, don't just blindly insult her. She's thirteen, for God's sake. Cut her a break.

The amount of irrational hate people have for this kid is amazing. She sang a song you don't like. That's it. Why are you so bitter? It's like she's personally vandalized your house and sacrificed your pet cat, or something. It's ridiculous.

And I think she's quite pretty, for the record.

It's pretty funny that this girl thinks she has a good voice. I always wondered if many of those American Idol auditions are people merely trying to get on TV. She is a great example of people who have no clue how little talent they have.

Thanks Obama - this is where you've led the country.

its Friday and I'm going to cut my wrists and throw myself in front of a oncoming yellow school bus. Yay for Friday !

Rebecca, I’m a grandmother and rarely pay attention to these type of comments but after hearing about you on Inside Edition I went online to listen and thought your song was very refreshing and age appropriate as to the stuff I usually hear these days. If Kim what’s her name can make a hit with Don’t Be Tardy To The Party, this should let you know not to give up, people are going to always have something to say. And the more they talk the more exposure you get. CWGM

I just cannot stand her music or videos...I mean, sure they are good for a young YouTuber, but for this to reach a national level in the media?! I mean, she's not even singing in her songs! Anyone with decent autotune capabilities could sing like her or any other rappers out there.

How about covering more Rock music...Those musicians are actually talented at what they do and can not only naturally sing and play instruments, but write lyrics with meaning!!! (With more of a message other than, "It's Friday")

it was great

Young people need our support to pursue their dreams. Just because a child doesn't do something with excellence doesn't mean we should squash his/her spirit. I am proud of all children who simply take a risk in life to try something they love. This young lady needs our cheers and not our insults.

Wait... what comes after Sunday???

"The amount of irrational hate people have for this kid is amazing."

I imagine it's more that people hate the people who actually like this song, not the girl herself. :/

I think the song is brilliant, and the lyrics are perfect for her age. Was everyone else expecting she would sing about sex and love?

The funniest thing about all this is why are people getting worked up about a 13 year old's song and video? At least she's laughing all the way to the bank now.

Bring on the backlash to the backlash!

this is the worse song i've ever heard it makes me wont to go outside and punch
kids and then drink there blood

Whether you like the song or not, insulting a thirteen year old is wrong. This music isn't FOR adults. It's for younger kids. This is SO MEAN. I strongly dislike the way it's become acceptable for people in our culture to berate each other like this. Rebecca is handling this with strength and grace - I greatly admire the way she doesn't reciprocate the insults.

I very much like the idea of young people trying to express themselves, so I'd rather be supportive and constructive instead of critical. However, if your taste runs beyond bubblegum and Autotune, search on YouTube for Martina Cerna (yes, that means Black in Czech!) and her videos and live performances (many in English), made with her mother and her friends. She's still unsigned, but her contemporary Ewa Farna has become Central Europe's top teen star, the most watched on YouTube Polish female performer, and, I believe, a future world star. Look for both these young women on YouTube.

Dear LA Times, it's not bullying if the commentators are genuinely expressing their feelings about something.

Dear LA Times readers, weren't you whining and defending miss racist at UCLA weeks ago complaining that she has a right to free speech? Now these commentators aren't allowed theirs?

Way to be a bunch of numb hypocrites.

Also, the song is the worst song I've ever heard in my life.

that was just like a nursery rhyme.. who among us doesn't know that the next day after friday is saturday and sunday comes afterwards?? well, the song isn't that good.. her voice and the video either.. but truth be told, she's beautiful and even little, she has talent.. to all those people saying "cut herself" and "get an eating disorder and die",, why don't you say it to her face?? at least, she has confidence to show herself to the world..

Even if she's not singing about inappropriate things, could she at least have come up with GOOD lyrics? I'm sorry, but saying "Fun" and "Friday" over and over and talking about how you don't know whether to sit in the front seat or the backseat.... it's horrible.

And these are NOT age-appropriate! She is getting into a vehicle with other teens who clearly don't know what a seatbelt is. So there!

And what 13-year-old hangs out with high-schoolers.. which I hope they were because if they weren't, then you can add illegal underage operation of a motor vehicle to the list.

And you know what? She should be thanking us for criticizing her to this degree. Nobody gets famous without a bunch of haters. Look at Justin Beiber for example.

Why do you think this song is age appropriate?

Congrats Rebecca, they are all just jealous of your success ! You go girl. Someone has finally done something full clothed not rude or dirty, swearing.

awful song, I hate it!!!!

That said, she's a beautiful young lady and she does have potential. She doesn't deserve the awful treatment she's getting.

she doesn't suck...that song does!

"Even a person who doesn't like it...it's catchy." Sounds a lot like the Plague and herpes.

From what I read she didn't write the lyrics - that and another song she did were pre-written. Imagine how bad the 2 adults feel who wrote the song - at least a 13 year old can plead ignorance.

I gather cyber-bullying is now defined as not posting accolades for a mediocre effort of the part of the adults involved with this project at the expense of the 13 year old they used.
