'Idol' leaves Casey Abrams shaking, shocked -- and saved [Video] [Poll]

Casey Abrams saved on "American Idol" Contestant Casey Abrams was saved from elimination on "American Idol" on Thursday night — and immediately looked as if he were going to lose it. Or maybe just faint.

(Heck, we were ready to faint when his name came up as the week's lowest vote-getter.)

Shaking and pale after having his sing-for-your-life performance cut off early by the judges' announcement, the unique performer double-checked with them to make sure the save had really happened. "It's Top 11 — why would you do this to me? I can't believe it," Abrams said, referring to the fact that the save might affect the Top 10 summer tour roster.

Abrams fell to his knees upon his return to the stage and had to take a seat on the steps with Ryan Seacrest as he recovered from the shock. The host explained the ramifications of the save: It had been determined in advance that if the save came at this point in the competition, the tour would have 11 performers instead of 10. And next week, two performers will get the hook.

Fans might remember that Michael "Big Mike" Lynche got the save last season when there were nine contestants remaining — only to be eliminated eventually when the field was cut from four to three.

Watch the results segment, including a birthday tribute to Steven Tyler led by Stevie Wonder, below. Casey's save, and shocked reaction, is around the five-minute mark. To read all the details instead, hit Show Tracker for the recap.

Were Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and the birthday boy right to use their one save on Abrams, who they've praised as one of the most talented musicians to ever appear on "Idol"? Scroll down and vote in the poll.

How Casey wound up at the bottom while Lauren A -- whose monumental lack of talent is only eclipsed by her lack of brain power -- was "safe" this week is astonishing. And why is Haley still on the show while the far more talented Ashton was voted off? I guess all those 15 year old girls need a blonde white girl on the show,

America voted his the lowest vote , its not about what the judges think at this point. thats why the people call in.. obviously he got the lowest vote so to make it fair he should be out gone. the used a save on him that they will regret later. because again the people voting will vote him off again.
Im just saying.

I think really it was a bad decison, now he has to be voted off again.. they wasted there save.. america voted.. and they will vote again and he will be voted off.. hes a good singer but its not what america wants. unfortunately just because the judges like him does not mean everyone whos voting likes him. The judges made a bad call sorry..

OK before we start going into the Casey is great/sucks factions, may I suggest another reason for what happened?

Fact is he and a handful of others have been annointed from early on in the contest. I think the field is so close that some of the Casey fans assumed he was in, at least top 5, so used their votes on others.

It is worth saying that Hayley and Naima were regulars of the bottom 3 in the previous elimination rounds, but this one? They weren't even in the bottom 3 let alone close to being eliminated. So there is a really good chance that they stepped up their game enough to take the votes from those who like Casey but thought he would make it easy.

Casey's elimination wasn't the only shocker to the majority of Idol watchers, I think many who predicted Hayley/Naima off, were equally surprised those ladies didn't even get voted into the bottom 3.

I think really it was a good decison ! Casey is the best talent in idol 2011

I was so glad to see casey saved ~ the best tv moment in a long time. Yeah, he could be voted off later, deeming the save a waste, but that would have happened with anyone they used the save on. The save saves anyone in the bottom so of course there is a good chance they will land there again. I think they hope that after seeing the judges so passionate about this person, the voters will take notice and re~evaluate their decisions.

Seth Rogen actually sings??? oops...it's another AI what-his-name...well he'll be forgotten like the rest of them...sigh!

I'm proud of American Idol and I congratulate the judges and all involved in this decision. I'm sixty-five and love this show. The best year ever. At least five of the contestants are worthy of winning because they're over the top. Casey clearly in that top five. You got it right! The tour, fans who attend and the show are are winners because you got it right. Ryan's best year. Loved Simon, but this panel is "Outstanding".

Casey is Rabbi material, not pop star material. Total waste of the save. His rendition of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" smelled like dookie, and his reaction to the save was so awkward, it was painful to watch.

Next...

I WAS VERY HAPPY WHEN CASEY WAS SAVED SINCE HE IS EXTREMELY TALENTED AND DESERVES TO GO ON. I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR HIM SING THE SONG ''WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD '' BY LOUIS ARMSTRONG.
