Mariah Carey and husband Nick Cannon are having a boy and a girl.

The couple, who announced in December that they would be having twins, confirmed that they’ll be having one of each gender, due this April.

That’s one bundle of joy of the XX-chromosome variety and another of the XY-chromosome variety, for those of us who weren’t paying attention in high school biology.

‘Even before we announced it was twins, I was trying to keep everything gender-neutral because I didn’t want to impose an identity on them too soon,’ Carey, 41, told Life & Style magazine.

‘There were fan contests on Twitter about what gender they are, and rumors about them being two boys or two girls -- but nobody guessed this!’ she said.

Carey has been pretty tight-lipped on the details of the pregnancy, except for, oh, that time she spilled the beans to Michelle Obama.

She and Cannon, 30, who have been married since April 2008, are already decorating nurseries in L.A. and New York.
