Lindsay Lohan to be charged with felony grand theft of necklace
Lindsay Lohan, who has been awaiting word on whether she'll face charges related to a necklace taken from a Venice boutique, will be charged with felony grand theft on Wednesday afternoon, according to L.A. County prosecutors.
Lohan will not be arrested Tuesday but rather will be booked at the courthouse and then arraigned, L.A. Now reports. She is expected to be charged with a single count of felony grand theft at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Airport Courthouse on La Cienega Boulevard in L.A.
Detectives last Wednesday gave prosecutors the results of their investigation into allegations that Lohan stole a "one-of-a-kind" $2,500 necklace, The Times' L.A. Now reported last week. Kamofie & Co. is the store involved, the Associated Press reported.
Over the weekend, Lohan attorney Shawn Chapman Holley released a statement saying, "We vehemently deny these allegations, and if charges are filed we will fight them in court, not in the press."
The piece, described as a gold necklace with semiprecious stones, disappeared from the store on Jan. 22, and police began investigating a few days later, L.A. Now's Andrew Blankstein and Richard Winton reported. According to law enforcement sources, Lohan was seen in a store security video wearing the necklace before it was reported missing.
The necklace found its way into LAPD custody on Sunday, when Lohan's stylist turned it over not to the store but rather to the police -- shortly before a search warrant was to be executed at the actress' new place in Venice.
Lohan has been living in Venice since leaving the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage shortly after the new year.
Lohan has said that she was borrowing the item and that her stylist simply didn't return it on time. The store maintains that no paperwork was done that would have allowed the piece to go out on loan.
If charged and convicted, Lohan could get as little as probation or as much as a three-year prison sentence. She is also still on probation related to two DUI arrests in 2007.

They have this sort of legal hassle in Hollywood over ideas, where one comes up with an idea and another bears it into fruition. Who first came up with the idea to wear the necklace? Was there an implied contract to wear it? This is where entertainment law, most particularly, fashion law, comes into play. It's a very bizarre area of law that defies logic. I think the store doesn't realize that Lindsay has been notorious for having rooms full of her own clothes, jewelry, etc., as well as others doing the same thing. Clothes float around. She's a fashion model, remember?

Why can't celebrities like Lindsay Lohan and Charlie Sheen get their act together. They have so many more opportunities than the average person who is going thru a hard time. I lost my Mother and Sister and oftentimes feel I have no reason to go on. I don't have an entourage guiding me through my daily life. I wish I did.

Lindsay Lohan has been living over half of her life in a fish bowl - for everyone to admire as well as to hate at the same time. FAME is not easy. If her name was Jane Doe she would be lost in the shuffle. Money can't buy integrity. Lindsay pick yourself up out of the gutter for the sake of you and no one else. Planet earth is calling you. Lindsay come back home! -sjk
