Christina Aguilera kills the national anthem -- and not in a good way [video]
This post has been corrected. See the note at the bottom for details.
Christina Aguilera's fumbling of the national anthem before the 2011 Super Bowl may have been worse than Nick Collins' pick-six off the Pittsburgh Steelers' Ben Roethlisberger -- unless, of course, you're a Green Bay Packers fan.
Check out Xtina's "interpretation" of "The Star-Spangled Banner" above, and vote in the Lea Michele vs. Christina Aguilera singing poll. And remember, the blond diva has been getting the tune right for a long time, including at a hockey game when she was 11 (she starts around the 1-minute mark):
More recently, she got the lyrics right for Game 7 of the 2010 NBA Finals (see the proof below). So -- maybe this girl just isn't a football fan?
For the record, 5:59 p.m.: This post originally gave Ben Roethlisberger's first name as Brett. Of course, it is not Brett, just like Clay Matthews' first name is not Chris. Brett Favre's first name is Brett, however. Thanks to commenter @Eaglesfan19 for flagging my gaffe, and making me laugh at myself, albeit in a banging-my-head-on-the-wall way.

She was about the worst ever, even if she got the words correct! Why can't people sing it the way it was written ?

Never have been a fan of hers and really hated her rendition.
Her singing style shouldn't even be considered singing. All of the trilling and shrilling is just gross.
And then the lyrics she did sing: What so proudly we watched at the twilight's last reaming...
So she didn't just repeat lyrics, she made all new ones and distasteful sounding ones at that.
Well she is what she always has been, a 2nd rate pop singer that is always a few years behind britney...so a few years ago brit had her melt down and now its time for xtina...

Unfortunately very few famous singers actually do a good performance singing this song. If there going to take a crack at it though they should at least sing it the way its written. Shame on all who dont....

Just for the record - the lyrics to the song (by Francis Scott Key) were set to the melody of an old english drinking song (Anacron in Heaven). The music was not written to go with the song. Still, I think the singing along by the crowd part suffers when a singer chooses to "personalize" the song. It loses something in translation.

Hey all ... Christie D'Zurilla here from MOG with a gentle reminder that we don't publish comments that include profanity, even if you aster*sk or d-sh the words ... also in general we don't publish comments that include links.
Feel free to resubmit clean and I'll make 'em live! Thanks to all for reading and commenting.

AWFUL, absolutely AWFUL! Its a sad state of affairs that the NFL would allow such a dunce like this attempt to sing our National Anthem. Not only is her singing terrible---TERRIBLE! She butchered the song--getting the lyrics wrong and belting out her mistakes at an even more awful volume. Hopefully the NFL will make an attempt to insure that whoever they pick in the future can (1) carry a tune, (2) not embarrass the entire country on worldwide TV by singing a rendition of our National Anthem, and (3) actually remember to sing the correct lyrics. WORST SINGING OF THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER EVER!!!!!!!!!!!

You're funny, thedog! Cops trample on our civil rights daily. Why would I stand for the National Anthem?
I don't stand for it when I'm at a public sporting event. I'm not going to stand for it at home.
And if you actually believed in what it's supposed to represent, you wouldn't be telling people what they should or shouldn't post, you hypocrite!

These people!!! Can't they just SING the song...stop trying to IMPRESS people! You look and sound like an idiot!

Christina can just go home and cry about her bank accts.~ or not~ the early performance was so similar to the SB45 performance. Awful, but useable.
