Black Eyed Peas' Super Bowl halftime show: Um, thoughts? [poll]
The Black Eyed Peas' Super Bowl halftime show seems to have left some folks less than impressed, if the, um, impassioned comments on our related 2011 Super Bowl posts are any indication.
Personally, the Ministry sort of loved the light-up dancing people and would like to keep one as a pet. Then again, we always like shiny things. Plus, Guns N' Roses' Slash showed up, and he looks cool no matter what. (Never mind that you won't be hearing any GNR tune in the "Glee" episode after the game, or any other "Glee" episode, for that matter.)
Regarding the music, however -- was being three-sheets-to-the-wind drunk a requirement to enjoy this Super Bowl halftime show? Are the folks who said it's still cool to like the Black Eyed Peas eating their words? Do you sympathize with the not-an-old-fart-at-all editor who sent me a frantic note about that "horrific caterwauling by Fergie," proclaiming her ears had been violated?
Did the Peas suddenly make lyrics-flubbing Christina Aguilera look ... good? You might want to read Todd Martens' take on the Peas, "Pop Absurdity at Its Finest."
Take the poll, and post your own review in comments. (Keep it clean!)

They totally brought it! Their set list was great (although all their songs make me want to move). Their costumes were fun. The dancers on the field added to the eye candy. Lighten up people, it was a great performance!

The show would have been good if not for the sound .... at least over the TV. Music and singers weren't meshed well or something. Sounded pretty bad. Disappointing because I know they can put on a good show. Too bad. However, I would have perferred country western singers at the Cowboy Stadium to better represent us (Texas).

I give the halftime an 8 out of 10 performance! However, I think Kool and the Gang would have been a better choice to bring the house down!!! :-)

It's such a shame when "singers" try to perform without all of their studio enhancements. Large venue performances like the super bowl really separate the true performer from the fake. Sorry, Fergie, I knew you were a fake all along.

i thought they were awesome! Best half time show in a long time, i enjoyed the whole thing. The sound was messed up but that wasn't the singers fault that was the stadium's fault. The dancing was incredible and loved the lights on the outfits!

One word: TERRIBLE

The perfomance would have been awesome with a qualified sound person

It was like a bad MC Hammer impersonation.

Fergie...sorry you're so fake you can not sing at all in real life. Better stick to singing in a studio.

At least this sewage problem that was created diverted us from thoughts of war for a time.

Pure Crap. If you cant sing I guess you just run your howls thru a synthesizer so it sounds like electronic crap.

Turrible. Just turrible. Knew Fergie can't sing.

The performers were excellent. The sound was brutal. Could barely hear any music. People's mics not on. The mix was horrendous. I feel sorry for the performers. It's impossible to perform at your best when you can't hear the music, and you're wondering what's going to go wrong next.
How does that happen? It's not as if nobody's ever mixed a stadium show before. Somebody (producer, engineer, soundman, ???) really screwed the pooch. Unforgiveable. They got the easy stuff wrong, and the hard stuff right.

OMG this year the halftime show suckd so bad playing black eyed pea's was the worst idea ever
Posted by: Krzysztof | Feb 06, 2011 at 07:35 PM
It had the potential to be a good show, but personally i think they could have done something else with Sweet child o' mine because Fergie butchered it, and TV people cant mix a concert so the sound came through on television horribly. im sure that it sounded better there live but on TV it was a big let down...

There was everything but the big tub to boil the missionaires.

Fergie's voice was so disgusting, as her face usually is.
Visually- amazing. Audibly- total wreck.
Usher's dancing and Slash saved them a little bit, but overall it was awful & made Janette Jackson look like a saint.

Bad, bad, bad! The youth of today have been complaining for quite sometime about the NFL using those old "has been" groups and artists for their halftime shows. Well, tonight we got to see why! Those old has beens had (have) real talent! They're true musicians! The majority of these new "performers" are created in the studio. They can't play instruments or write music. They sing and dance. They perform. Just like circus acts. Maybe in the future we'll have more appreciation for some of these old "has beens", huh?
