Jimmy Buffett hospitalized after fall off concert stage in Australia
Singer Jimmy Buffett was hospitalized with a head injury after falling off the stage at the end of a concert in Sydney, Australia.
Buffett, 64, fell face first Wednesday night after an encore performance of "Lovely Cruise." Buffett had performed Sunday and Monday to sold-out crowds at Sydney's Opera House before moving Wednesday to the Hordern Pavilion for a show tacked on in response to demand.
"It looked like he did a massive face plant after his encore and pretty much didn't get up," a fan in the 10th row told Australia's Daily Telegraph, which reported that fans were told to leave the auditorium immediately, without getting news on Buffett's condition.
The singer was listed in stable condition at Sydney's St. Vincent's Hospital about four hours after the fall, CNN International said.
Down under, Wednesday is Australia Day -- a holiday commemorating the arrival of Britain's First Fleet in Sydney Harbor in 1788. "It's a day for all Australians to get together and, in whatever way they choose, celebrate being Australian," according the holiday's Facebook page.
Buffett and the Coral Reefer band had not performed in Australia for 20 years, the Daily Telegraph said, and loaded up the show with references to the country and the holiday, plus a promise to return in 2012. The video below is from a 2009 show in Virginia.

Sounds like Jimmy is diabetic.

Sounds like Jimmy needs to think about retirement...when is enough ever enough for these self-obsessed celebrities...

I love Buffet...sound like Jimmy needs to think about retirement. Sooner than later...

Sounds like he was headed to "Margaritaville." Or maybe he just came from there. (Ha! Ha!)

I AGREE WITH DANCING SCORPION. How much money does he need? It does not sound good. He took quite a fall and hit his head on something on the way down. I think he's done. Sad but true.

Why should he retire? It appears that his (international) fan base supports his continuing career. Ageism is just as ugly as the other "-isms".

His fall wasn't cushioned by the audience full of beer-gut men and their trophy wives with implants?

Perhaps you should get your facts straight before leaving comments. No reports have come out that he had been drinking or that he fell because he was disoriented. Reports say that the lights malfunctioned and blinded that area of the stage. Why criticize that he is self-obsessed? Every year he goes on tour and his shows sell out in seconds. You don't have to contribute to his yearly wages by buying a ticket if you don't want. There are many of us that will gladly stand in line to see him live until he retires - many years from now.

"when is enough ever enough for these self-obsessed celebrities..." Doubt it's for the money...he's sort of an American icon. There's a whole industry built around him, and his tours are certainly not a large part of his revenue. Accidents happen..why the rancor?

Seriously!!
He is an artist who loves what he does and obviously people still love to see him - it's not about the money - he donates so much to charity and to music programs all over - HE FELL AND GOT HURT!! Compassion people!! I hope he is alright and can recover without any lasting damage - and can jump back on a stage just to show you unsympathetic downers that he can still do it - and do it with style & grace!!!

Maybe he blew out a flip-flop.

I'll go see him until one of us takes a dirt nap. He works harder and cares more than most of the spoiled little pissants who call themselves entertainers. And please tell me the last time somebody was shot coming out of a Jimmy Buffet concert.
Tell Kanye he can start the show without me.

"when is enough ever enough for these self-obsessed celebrities"(?)
you could repackage that to apply to anyone, anywhere, who ever hurt themselves. i certainly hope that if i find something i love as much as jimmy loves playing music that i don't ever stop doing it untill 'it', or some related cause (like stairs to get to and from 'it') takes me out.

Jimmy's music carries us away when we need it most! His talent is poetry in music and his love for his fans is not just about the money. Touring is hard work. If he didn't love it he'd quit; he certainly doesn't need the money! Get well Jimmy!

Self-obsession for some of us is an American affliction, goes hand-in-hand with the cult of celebrity...there is most definitely something obscene about the clowns among us acquiring riches denied teachers, nurses, cops, firemen, etc. As for Buffett, at a certain age prudent behavior should kick in...the chronic need for adulation and more money is a sickness. Otherwise, hey, Buffett do what he wants. He's a fool. And his inability to manage his stage presence is proof that old age can be unpleasant for fools who refuse to acknowledge when enough is enough...

And to Big_Cadillac: what's ughly about "patriotism," "capitalism," "altruism," "egaliarianism." You get the picture, bro.

Who's "rancoring"...just making a personal observation, an opinion. No doubt Buffett's a saint to his fans and a horses's ass to the rest of us...

wasted again in margarita-ville I see...

I wasn't going to post and rebut that horses ass (Dancing Scorpion). He really isn't worth the time. However, I can't help myself.
Who are you to decide that he's self obsessed or claiming riches that should go to teachers. I'm a teacher and if I had the talent to entertain, I'd be rich too. However, not everyone can do what he does. But a lot of people can teach kids how to add.
If we carry your sqewed opinion to it's logical conclusion :
#1 In my opinion you, Mr. Scorpio, have made enough money, so stop doing whatever it is you do. In my opinion, you've been successful enough. Who are you or I do decide who has earned enough. whatever enough is.
#2 So J. B. follows your stupid advice. Decides ... Hey Scorpio is correct, I'll stop doing what I love and hang out at the pool and rot for the rest of my life. I'll stop earning money and stop my philanthrapy. Screw all the folks who enjoy my entertainment. I'll stop having fun doing what I like and those that are willing to pay to be entertained, they don't need to see me anymore. Because Scorpion says I should stop.
Boy, I can hardly write this crap anymore. Trying to follow his logic makes my head hurt.
I've been to 52 Buffett shows and can't wait for 53. I hate his politics but love to escape to Margaritaville for an afternoon. Our tailgates rock.
Some people fish. I do a couple days in Pittsburg wasting away for a bit.

Well, Jimmy is a great artist and pretty damn good capitalist by any measure. Writes a pretty good book too. Get well. Fish Montana this summer.
