Alicia Silverstone is pregnant; vegan pregnancy blog posts gain context
Alicia Silverstone is pregnant, expecting a baby with Christopher Jarecki, her husband of more than five years.
Hmmm. That puts a little different spin on the vegan pregnancy Q&A series Silverstone has been running on her website, the Kind Life.
This will be a first child for the "Clueless" actress, 34, and musician Jarecki, 40, who dated for eight years before their June 2005 wedding in Lake Tahoe. The news was first reported by People.
Silverstone, who went vegan in 1998, in recent years wrote "The Kind Diet," a vegan cookbook. On the book's companion website, in addition to the vegan pregnancy series, Friday brought a recipe for mushroom pizza that contains no meat or dairy products.
The 2004 best actress Golden Globe nominee for the TV series "Miss Match" is among the ranks of celebs who've posed nude for PETA ads.

This is disappointing. For someone who is a steward of the earth, I would think she'd realize how breeding affects the planet. Should have adopted, Alicia...

Smh at some of these comments, particularly Jaime, (that's nice of you for the unborn child to remember how he/she was "welcolmed) how about "Good for you Alicia". I guess that is becoming too PC now and I bet some of you still wonder why things/folks are so crude and messed up now. Misery loves company....

My sister was vegan and had a miscarriage. Her blood count was off due to not eating red meat. She started eating meat and has had 2 healthy babies since then. Sometimes you gotta eat meat. (not against peta).

A great actress, author, and a soon-to-be great mother.

Tabitha is wrong about eating red meat. You can get plenty of protein from other sources, and red meat isn't always the best option when getting pregnant. Honestly, you could have used chicken or salmon to make your argument a little more sound.
Alicia does a ton of activism for the community and she deserves to bask in the glory of having her first child without being judged.

Congratulations Alicia! Alicia is a wonderful person who will be a wonderful role model to her future child and the vegan (and thinking-about-becoming-vegan) community interested in vegan pregnancy.
Many, many women experience the heartbreak of miscarriage (especially during first pregnancies) - and being a vegan has nothing to do with it. If a mother can't responsibly manage their own vegan diet during pregnancy (which is easily done with all of the excellent information out there to help), I doubt they are ready for children.

Just because she is vegan doesn't mean she will have a miscarriage. Remember, she has been vegan for 13 years now. Meaning by now she knows how to keep he blood counts up (iron, protein etc). She will double her intake for the baby now too.
