Wesley Snipes reports to federal prison in Pennsylvania

December 9, 2010 | 10:18 am

Wesley Snipes prison Wesley Snipes is in federal prison in Pennsylvania, having surrendered shortly before noon Thursday to begin serving a three-year sentence for failing to file tax returns in 1999, 2000 and 2001.

"He surrendered a short time ago and is now inside the facility," a Federal Bureau of Prisons spokesman said. "He'll go through an orientation process and will begin serving his sentence." The actor is at the Federal Correctional Institution McKean in Lewis Run, Pa.

Snipes, who earned $40 million in the three years he didn't file a return, was convicted in 2008 in Ocala, Fla., while being found not guilty on felony charges of tax fraud and conspiracy. Snipes said he's made good on taxes owed, and blames bad advisors for his failure to file.

The "Blade" actor filed a number of appeals, including a last-ditch emergency petition Wednesday asking that he be allowed to remain free on bail while a retrial was reconsidered in light of information about a juror that was broadcast during on Snipes' "Larry King Live" interview Tuesday.

The judge, Forbes reports, said a quick no to that last one.
