Ryan Seacrest, Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga still dead -- do you know why? [poll]

Ryan Seacrest at the Jingle BallRyan Seacrest Digital Death Celebrities who staged their own digital deaths last Wednesday are still "dead" on Twitter and Facebook, with a little less than $300,000 raised at 9:30 a.m. PST Monday toward their $1-million goal -- the magic number that will bring them back to social-media life.

A commenter noted the campaign that celebs such as Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Ryan Seacrest, Kim and Khloe Kardashian, Usher and more are participating in is not just about the money, but also about awareness of the issue that has them sworn off social media.

So -- the money part's not there yet, but is the awareness coming along? No Googling before voting in the poll! And if you vote "yes," please tell us in comments what you believe the issue to be. Check out previous posts linked below for more info on the effort.

what a bunch of self involved idiots. this is the the most narcissistic asinine thing i've seen in a long time. i know it's for a good cause but....I am so sick of our superficial celebrity obsessed society. I wish they would all just go away. I weep for my children and our/their future.

@Cari, you are an idiot and a perfect example of the dumbing down of America, it is so sad that you idiots can take this cause and turn it into something that it is not. You should weep for your children's future because you will be the one raising them with your ignorant mentallity, so I agree I weep for them also.

I agree with Cari. This is also offensive to the children the money is being raised for - why would you call not tweeting or updating facebook a a sacrifice or even equating it to life by calling it a "digital life?" This IS the dumbing down of America - thinking people would want to give so celebs could tweet again. That is downright idiotic, entitled, and egotistical. If you can't see that, then perhaps you've been reading too many celeb tweets.

If anything, perhaps they should've asked people to donate so they would end their digital lives. Celeb worship is off the charts, and now celebs are using it to raise money & be self promoting? There are other organizations that help children with AIDS - donate to those and other orgs that don't put celebs and their lives on a pedestal.

Its a wonderful thing to do...I mean nothing is happening in the world to make this big problem better or for that matter poverty or hunger. If they didnt do this , what would be left that helps people with this problems?? So if the message doesn't get there to everyone then it's still alot of money to help.

But it´s not enough of course , people need to realize that if everyone helped out a little bit , just a little it would become so much! More and more people would join the fight against this problems.

the weird thing is that this morning they weren't even half way to the goal & now they have surpassed it. something stinks. ms. keys probably donated the rest to save herself the embarrassment. whats also weird is that the minimum donation was dropped from $10 to $5 (had it been $1 they'd have been made it). so i'm sure that helped. & whats even weirder still is that these rich celebrities are "dying" for donations when the people they want the donations from are worrying about the debt they will incur this holiday season in addition to their day to day expenses. noble cause, truly shameful tactic!
