Will Mark Wahlberg‘s Sports Illustrated cover curse his chances of taking home a Golden Globe Award?

The actor had quite a Tuesday. With a Golden Globe nomination for his acting in based-on-a-true-story ‘The Fighter,’ he proved that it can help to build a boxing ring in your back yard. Plus ‘Boardwalk Empire,’ a show he executive produces, scored a best TV drama nomination.

But ... he had to do the Sports Illustrated thing.

Wahlberg now has the dubious honor of being one of the few nonsports figures ever to grace the SI cover. We’d totally be saying, ‘Good for you, show off those abs, boy!,’ if it weren’t for the dreaded Sports Illustrated cover jinx.

According to hex lore, athletes who appear on the sports mag face injuries or — ahem — losses soon after their turn on the cover.

Could Wahlberg suffer a similar fate? Or will Christian Bale, who plays his brother in the movie and posed with him, take the fall instead? Share your speculation in the comments.
