On-screen siblings and real-life husband and wife Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter are calling it quits.

‘Having been separated for some time, Jennifer Carpenter and Michael C. Hall have filed for divorce,’ reps for both stars told EW.com.

The actors, who met on the Showtime set, have been married for two years. As a couple, they weathered Hall’s cancer diagnosis and treatment.

At the end of November, Carpenter spoke with the Los Angeles Times about her and Hall’s odd navigation of their brother-sister relationship on screen, despite being lovers in real life.

‘We were just friends, and it was very easy to be friends,’ she said. ‘We were both surprised when this other thing happened. We did a lot of talking about it -- can we kiss, what will that mean, will we damage the credibility of our characters? We were very practical. But in the end, the heart wanted what the heart wanted.’
