Prince William and Kate Middleton are engaged [pictures]

Kate and Wills engaged Prince William and Kate Middleton are engaged, Britain's royal family announced Tuesday, with a wedding expected sometime in spring or summer of 2011, possibly at Westminster Abbey.

The couple, both 28, have been off and on as a couple since meeting as students at Scotland's University of St. Andrews eight years ago, and were engaged while on vacation in Kenya in October. William, second in line for the British throne after his father, Charles, sought permission from his future father-in-law before proposing.

Kate-and-wills-gallery Lady Diana Spencer married the prince of Wales on July 29, 1981, in an elaborate ceremony "attended" by about 750,000 people worldwide, hundreds of thousands in the streets of London and 3,500 guests in St. Paul's Cathedral. She was 20, and Charles was 32.

Will similar marital magic repeat itself 30 years later? Or is the world too different of a place?

Please stop saying just the 'British' Royal famly.

We're talking about the future King and Queen of not just Great Britain but also 15 other nations including Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Jamaica.

congratulations to them both however queen kate just doesn't sound right tbh

It's a great thing for the British people who need a gentle reminder of how popular, important and truly British the Royal family indeed are. As an Australian the prospect of having no British Royal Family is like banning football and cricket in Australia, it would loose its identity all together.

I hope they live a long and happy life together and William is King to see my lifetime out.

Congrats to them! This marriage has a better chance than Charles and Diana's . Charles and Di barely knew each other , plus he loves another woman.William and Kate have been dating for years. I love Royal Weddings!!

Everyone I've spoken to here in England is mightily fed up with this already. The media, of course, are already in full-on frenzy mode, working themselves up into an almighty froth which will last for at least the next two years...most of the public couldn't care less. What, two young, not very bright people are getting married? Wow, you don't see that often.

I am so thrilled that William and Kate are finally getting married. He was the most sought after Bachelor in the whole world and know he is tying the knot. It was a wise decision to wait until he is 28, because now he can be sure of the love of his Kate.
