Diego Luna is ready and 'Abel' at film's AFI Fest screening
What is it about Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal and coming-of-age stories? The childhood friends starred as best friends from opposite sides of the tracks in "Y Tu Mama Tambien" and as soccer-obsessed brothers in "Rudo y Cursi." They even joke that they had their sons at the same time.
So it seems fitting that Luna's feature directorial debut "Abel" -- executive produced by Bernal and produced by production company partner Pablo Cruz -- is about a young boy with a loose grasp on reality who in his father's absence takes on the role of man of the house.
Familiar faces showed up at the AFI Fest screening to cheer the friends on: Will Ferrell, who will appear with Luna and Bernal in 2011's Spanish-language comedy "Casa de Mi Padre"; "Avatar" actress Zoe Saldana; and "Talk to Her" and "Spanglish" star Paz Vega.
