Variety's Power of Women salutes Katie Holmes, Jennifer Garner and more

Let's hear it for the ladies who lunch -- though in the case of the Variety Power of Women fete Thursday, the lunch was for some ladies who do more than a little extra.

Katie Holmes, Jennifer Garner, Eva Mendes, Diane Lane, Amy Adams and talent manager Susan Bymel were lauded for their charitable efforts, as the Ministry prepped you for a few weeks ago.

Variety-women-gallery-refer Each woman spoke on behalf of her chosen cause, such as Holmes' Dizzy Feet Foundation and Garner's Save the Children, at a luxe luncheon at the Beverly Hills Hotel. With the honorees packing such star power, it was exciting to see who came to support the gals.

John Malkovich showed for his "Secretariat" costar Lane, as did her husband Josh Brolin. (Click on the picture of Lane and Brolin to launch a photo gallery of arrivals.) Bymel was introduced by her client, a gushing Anne Hathaway. Adams got a huge A-list boost when her "The Fighter" costar Mark Wahlberg turned up, trying to fly under the radar in jeans and a sports T-shirt.

The biggest celeb support, by far, was Suri Cruise. The celebu-tot came to support her mom,

Maria-bello-variety stealing everyone's attention and looking around the poolside banquet room in awe (she was particularly enamored with a massive chandelier of blue and yellow glass roses).

Garner's brood wasn't in tow, but she talked about the less fortunate kids she works with through Save the Children.

Recalling when she saw a 1-year-old use finger paint for the first time, Garner said, "He was so excited, he pumped his fists like Tiger Woods. The old Tiger Woods."

Even a powerful woman can still be funny.

It's kinda refreshing to see celebrities that care so much about various issues that they're willing to take time from their busy lives to attend events like this and promote the causes that they want to help.
