T.I. sentenced to 11 months in prison for probation violations

Rapper T.I. has been sentenced to 11 months in prison after his probation was revoked Friday in the wake of a Sept. 1 arrest in Los Angeles on drug charges.

T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris, asked for leniency, while prosecutors pushed for a two-year sentence on the probation violations, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

‘I think Mr. Harris had had about the limit of second chances,’ Judge Charles Pannell Jr. said. ‘The worst thing is this case was an experiment.’

Convicted on federal weapons charges that came with a minimum sentencing guideline of almost five years, the rapper worked a deal: In addition to paying a $100,000 fine, he was allowed to stay under house arrest and do a community-service tour before serving a maximum of one year and one day in prison. He was released to a halfway house before getting out on probation in March.

‘You certainly dumped a lot of smut on the whole experiment,’ the judge said.

Violations alleged by the ‘Takers’ actor’s probation officer included possessing ecstasy, testing positive for opiates and associating with a convicted felon. -- Christie D’Zurilla
