Chris Brown hosts youth run for Eunice Kennedy Shriver Challenge

Chris Brown at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver charity weekend for Special Olympics

Chris Brown is sprinting away from the troubles of yesteryear, taking a break in the recent promotion of his new album to pitch in with charity work in Washington, D.C.

Brown attended Audi's Eunice Kennedy Shriver Challenge, a weekend of charitable efforts in honor of the late Kennedy matriarch that benefits Best Buddies International and the Special Olympics.

Brown sang the national anthem to kick off festivities and then hosted his own 1-mile Fun Run on Saturday for kids of all ages. Following his run, Brown took time to throw a few football passes with the kids.

"American Idol" singer David Archuleta and figure skater Michelle Kwan attended as well, hosting activites to raise awareness for youths with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Chris Brown has been involved with Best Buddies events since last year. He engages in activities with the disabled youth in various U.S. cities. Over the weekend, many participants posted on various blogs that Chris was very cordial and genuinely gave his time freely to the youth at the event. Chris also donated $25,000 each to a food bank and a Red Cross chapter in the Richmond, VA area earlier this year.

Furthermore, he has long participated in charity events since he stepped on the music scene at 15 years old, such as his yearly giveaway of Christmas toys to children who now attend the former daycare center his mother worked at in his VA hometown; donating $50,000 donation to St. Jude Hospital, etc. So if anyone wants to imply his charitable giving is just a PR stunt, it is not true! Do your research...

Well, Christ Brown participating in charities since 15 obviously didn't help at the moment when he hit someone physically. I am not sure if he took part in charity events out of sincere heart or just for fame. You can do all good work and also you can murder someone at the same time. The important thing is how you make right decision every second and to do that you have to train yourself to be humble, gentle, and submissive. Physical abuse is addiction and it can strike again any time.

Jodan: "The important thing is how you make right decision every second and to do that you have to train yourself to be humble, gentle, and submissive. Physical abuse is addiction and it can strike again any time."

I can agree with you for an instance. Yes one has to train yourself to be humble and gentle. Now I can tell you as a Social Worker who worked in the domestic violence realm for 5 years, physical abuse is not classified as an addiction.

Unlike substance addictions, nobody is born with the "gene" to be a phyical abuser. Physical abuse is a taught behavior, which is why most people who commit physical abuse saw it growing up. Those who have physical abused others can be taught different skills set to know how to identify when they are getting angry and use alternative ways to deal with their anger. Anyone can change as long as the person is long-term invested in exercising what they learned in therapy.

I'm so proud of this young man. He has truly won the hearts of millions. He has definitely shown the world with hard work and dedication that you can change your life around.I commend Chris Brown for being an inspiration to the young people that it you really want to turn your life around you can and to let one tell you it's not possible.I want to personally thank Chris Brown, my son turn his life around and now he's is a United States Officer. Where many thought he couldn't do he has. Thank you Chris, Ms.D from NY.

I think Chris is doing a good job with being involved with things like this. It makes it even better because you know it comes from the heart.

Chris.... he has moved on with his life & it seems in a very positive manner. In his recent music following the tragic events that happened last year, you could see it in his interviews, in his Ustreams.. in his face...his eyes that he was smiling on the outside but covering the pain inside. When someone commits a crime as serious as domestic violence there is no coming back it seems because of the seriousness of the damage... but this young man has shown that there is a coming back. I don't know Chris Brown, I am merely just a FAN, but I think he is doing a great job not resorting to drugs, etc... he is very focused and trying to come back, and he has.... the world builds you up to tear you back down again to build you back up....

God be with Chris & help him & others who are being abused & have been to heal through God...

AMEN

i think chris is doing wat he needs to do and MORE !!

Of Course Chris Brown is doing his part. He's been helping out with charities for years now. Helping others in need is not something new to Chris Brown. He does more good than people give him credit for or even know about :) He's a wonderful young adult who does more for the needy than many of us!
