Comeback alert: Winona Ryder in Natalie Portman's 'Black Swan'

Winona-ryder-black-swan We normally leave awards show predictions and analysis to our brother blog Gold Derby, but we couldn't help but notice the first round of reviews for Darren Aronofsky's "Black Swan."

While lead Natalie Portman may generate awards buzz for her turn as a tortured ballerina, the early notices for Winona Ryder are what flagged our comeback radar.

Ryder, who makes a brief appearance as an aging dancer being shoved from the spotlight, brings "an almost frighteningly credible neurotic intensity" and "sets the bar high for Portman to match," according to film critic Todd McCarthy

This is precisely the kind of delicious, arty-but-campy turn that could propel Ryder back into the mainstream — which frankly she's been on the margins of since 2002's "Mr. Deeds," released shortly after her arrest on shoplifting charges at a Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills.

We can't wait to see for ourselves, but we'd love some Winona in the supporting actress category if she makes "Swan" dance.

Go Winona! You're worth a billion Angelina Jolies.

She is a talented actress. Who cares what she did in the past she made some stupid mistakes, she paid her price with public humiliation, Hugh Grant had an easy comeback. She didn't kill anyone, get drugged up or drink and drive. She's just odd. So are most talented artists like Michael Jackson.

I'm biased, I admit, but It's about time Noni got the recognition she has deserved since... well, since "Night on Earth," or at very least "Age of Innocence."

I think so. She was very popular in the 90s. All actors experience a stagnant career at some point. But I don't think that Winona will get any major awards like the GG or Oscar for her role in this film. I believe they compared her part in the film to that of a cameo. She doesn't even dance in this film, so it is really hard to really focus on her alone. Apparently, Vincent Cassel and Mila Kunis are not really seen that much either, the main focus is on Natalie Portman. I'm so glad that Barbara Hershey is in this, she has been out of the game for quite some time. I was wondering where she went, but now here she is. So hopefully this can revive her film career.

It's time everyone gets into the Winona fever once again. She's been away too long and Hollywood was just never the same without the edgy yet charismatic and huge talent of The Girl of The Generation Once Called X.
