Paris Hilton pleads guilty to drug possession, obstruction [poll]

Paris-hilton-in-court

Paris Hilton pleaded guilty in a Las Vegas court on Monday to misdemeanor charges of possession of cocaine and obstructing an officer and received one year of probation, a $2,000 fine and 200 hours of community service. If she violates that probation, she will serve one year behind bars in the Clark County Detention Center, Justice of the Peace Joe Bonaventure said.

She confessed to having 0.8 gram of cocaine in her purse the night of Aug. 27, then admitted she'd lied to police about the purse not being hers.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal has video of Hilton facing the judge and pleading guilty here.

Hilton is reportedly telling friends she's taking the situation very seriously, TMZ sources say, and is "over being a party girl" and ready to "finally grow up."

The deal, which was announced Friday, reduced the drug charge from a felony to ...

... a misdemeanor. Had it stayed a felony, the Las Vegas Review-Journal said Friday, Hilton still would not have served jail time on a first offense.

Hilton's boyfriend, Cy Waits, who was driving when they were pulled over on the Las Vegas Strip in August, has a Nov. 29 court date on a misdemeanor DUI charge.

Let this be a warning for parents of teenagers who are acting out.

If you send them to a residential boarding school like her parents did when she was shipped to Orem in Utah, the risk of drug use in adult life is actually increased because forced partipation in group therapy and drug awareness classes conducted by amateurs are just a straigth path to drug abuse as they was seeking a dealer.

Outrageous. If you or me were caught with cocaine, we'd be spending some time in the pokey. If we had previous DUI's, and skated from those without any jail time, the judge would certainly see fit to ensure some actual "hard time" to drive the point home. Not in this case. This spoiled brat skates again. DUI's, cocaine possession, marijuana possession (in a foreign country no less) and still no jail time. I am sick of it. This PROVES the double standard of treatment when you're a spoiled celebrity. If I am ever arrested for possession, I am going to use the Paris Hilton defense.

Leave her alone. Not like you guys are lily flowers and not like she has to borrow money or steal.... Her life should be her life.

@azereta -- Christie D'Zurilla here from the blog ... saw your comment and thought, "Awwww, I want to be a lily flower!"

OK, going back to my blogger cave now ...

Can I be a lily flower too? Pleeeaaasssse? For goodness sake, suck it in! Others have said it, if it was a coloured person or a down and out or someone without the funds like her, they/we would be straight to the big house! This little tramp needs to go to the big house and get some quality time there!

yes, double standards. We have them here in New Zealand too!

@Steve in New Zealand -- Christie D'Zurilla here from the blog.

I think I speak for all of us here at the Ministry when I say YES, we have room for all lily flowers who'd like to join our gossipy festivities. Just make sure you dress in a snappy fashion, and bring snacks.

I'm glad Paris didn't get time. Prohibition is ridiculous and hurtful to society. It would have been as wrong to send Paris to jail as it is to send anyone else caught for such a paultry no-victim crime. The difference is that if Paris got serious time for this, a lot of you would have cheered, and that's disgusting.

So here's one for all the petty jealous little hypocrites out there -> .!.

Paris I trust one day you may come to believe you might be an addict...
three things are promised for an addict Jails - Institutions - Death

At this time in Indonesia 10 young Australian citizens that transported drugs
into the country are on death row, no ifs' and buts about it.
Today at the UN the Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd appealed for the lives
of these young citizens..and now it's turned into years with relentless appeals to no avail.
Just to get them life imprisonment. I don't know who is your Manager, to show up in Japan after being in court in the USA is ludicrous.
Your ignorance of Japanese culture has brought shame on your head as far as their concerned. God luck

@ Rove, are you for real here? Chances are she was as guilty as sin in South Africa. She did the crime, she SHOULD do the time!
